1. One of the best lines (and the best tones) ever
2. Great communication and easy dealing with Andy
3.
Any dents on the neck.
It's practically spotless. Nothing more than a very shallow, practically invisible trace of a knock around the 12th fret.
4. In superb condition...
5. Plays like butter.
6. A fine EMG - upgraded Ibanez SR300FM in great condition for sale. Original cost was £300, with an additional £300 worth of upgrades (EMG pickups and EQ) - so it's up for sale at the price I bought it for: £275 which I think is a very fair price. It's a fine bass with a remarkable buzz-free super-low action and the smoothest frets I've ever seen. The Pick ups and Circuitry were professionally upgraded 5 years ago to EMG according to the original owner. The active circuit is 18volt EMG's with a P and J. The control gives you total flexibility with: P & J Blend Bass Cut/Boost Treble Cut/Boost Mid Cut/Boost Mid Sweep Ibanez SR300FM 4-String Electric Bass Features: • SR4 neck • 3-piece maple neck • Agathis body • 24 medium frets • Rosewood Fingerboard • B100 bridge • IBZ DXP neck pickup (now EMG) • IBZ DXJ bridge pickup (now EMG) • Pearl dot inlay • EQB-IIC 2-band EQ (now EMG circuitry) I'm in Greenwich, south London if you want to come around and try it out. 7. Thanks for suggestions, guys. Just spotted this at £170: http://www.basscentre.com/bass-cabs/eden-ex110-cab.html Anybody got any experience with them?
8. Terrific catchy bassline
9. To get to Sting's bass playing you have to get past his silly, high-pitched voice and cod - Jamaican accent ...and I'm not prepred to do that, I'm afraid.
10. Never heard a a better fretless than a Wal.
11. I've always thought this was a fine Pop bassline
12.
Ah thanks, Dumb question, but did you have a good way of avoiding/dealing with dust in the clearcoats? Without a proper workshop to do this in I'm having trouble despite trying to keep the spray area tidy and clear.
Not really. If I look closely there is some variation in surface texture on some of the areas and I didn't have anything to buff up the finish with - but it just didn't bother me too much. It's fairly smooth but definitely far from perfect.
13.
Really impressive job there - can I ask did you clearcoat the bass after spraying the colours?
Yes, I did. I stayed 'brand loyal' and used a whole can of Halford's ordinary lacquer on the paint.
14.
I admit to being a bit intrigued by this glove thing so I decided to do my own little sound test. Apparently my bass playing is completely shot and I can't play in time with or without gloves but have a listen any way. One half is played au naturel and the other wearing some woolly gloves from Next. See if you can tell which is which.
15. I've got the stacked bass and treble/pull bright and sweepable mid on one of my basses. I'm most critical of the bass pot. First of all there's no cut on the bass - just a massive 15db boost - far too much in my opinion and the more you turn it up the less of the other frequencies you hear. I don't like the design and find it quite useless as it totally swamps and kills the tone. I do like the treble though - and the pull bright works very well with low noise. Critical, again of the mid control - it's difficult to pinpoint the frequency (I have no trouble on a Wal) because the pot goes way too high into the treble (all ready covered by the treble control) meaning the vital 300 - 800hz area is located in an infuriating nano- turn of the knob. He has plenty of products so choose carefully till you find the one that suits you.
16. I've decided that my Ukulele playing days are over (everyone's at it now) so I have a Hawaiian, professional quality, hand-crafted, mahogany tenor model for sale. Beautiful, sweet sound and low action. This is not a toy ukulele - it's a proper instrument! Selling for £180 A properly carved heel. Superb machine heads that always stay in tune: Some slight dings on the bottom of the instrument; it was reduced from £315 to £265 due to this when I bought it two and a half years ago from the famous ululele shop in Spitalfields.
17.
That's an excellent job!
Thanks!
18.
Very nice job Kev.
An honour from a master of the art!
19.
that looks great like the blue going into the white
Thanks. I used your advice and had more success spraying with the body flat on a bench rather than suspended upright. Many thanks for that
20.
That looks great, well done!
Thanks you!
21. It's quite a transformation both visually and ergonomically: it weighs a lot less now and tucks into the body nicely. Sounds great, too. Only one mistake: a slip of the soldering iron around the back plate - but I can't be bothered to re-do it!
