1. Almost 10 times as much.
2.
Here are the two together. Lightening fast to play and loose nothing to the bottom end due to the shorter scale. Great fun.
GAS........gas.............
3. Average spacing is 18mm. While we're on the subject, can anyone tell me the Fender Precision string spacing? I heard it was 19mm...
4. You'll be alright with Rosewood and nylon stings but it probably won't sound very lively.
5.
The problem that all printed publications face these days is the internet.
I think I read that somewhere on the internet.
6.
Despite the fact I used to buy it regularly I never liked the tone of the magazine much in the first place; it always felt like Bass Playing for Civil Servants. Having recently picked up a couple of issues in Smiths I did what others in this thread have done and put them straight down again.
You can read it in WH Smiths in about 4 minutes. There's nothing there.
7. There's nothing in it. It's like they've given up, or something. And it's a fiver. Disgraceful.
8.
How wealthy are you? Very? Try a Rob Allen bass.
+1 Or a Kinal compact bass: Very convincing
9.
Fretless and flats? What about Mwaah? I've always imagined that round were a big ingredient of mwaah. Am I wrong? fatback
No, you're right. The flats are going on a fretted bass. I Wouldn't dream of putting them on a fretless.
10.
Measure nut to 12th fret and double it - that'll give you the scale length of your bass. No need to be precise, all you need to know is whether its closest to 30" or 32". These are the two "standards" that makers work to as defining short or medium. With that bridge you be ok. Some 30" scale basses like Hofner violins need 32" medium scale strings because the tailpiece is a few inches away from the bridge. Also string-thru body bridges need longer scale strings for the same reason. Good luck (and check out Pyramid Golds from Thomman. Expensive but very nice)
Thanks!
11. I was wondering if these would be okay: stringsdirect.co.uk http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/12..._ecb81s_ecb81m_ I'm assuming it's ball-end to nut (the way of working the scale out)
12.
I found Thomman had the best selection (including shorts) and good prices..as long as you buy more than one thing so the shipping is worth it. Check the bridge design on your bass as some 30" scale basses need medium (32") strings because of tailpeices etc?
Okay... how do I do that? What's the rule for working it out (the scale)? It's this model:
13. Where do you guys buy your strings in the UK? Is there a good website? I'm after short scale flats that'll fit a Danelectro 30" scale.
14. That's a very elegant looking bass. Glad you sorted it out.
15. Nice. There you go kids; you can't get that effect with fingers.
16. Lovely, interesting bass. I nearly bought one of those a couple of years ago...
17. It's just an 'it' to me.
18.
Here are my planks on the sofa... I have neatly cropped the wine stain out of the picture (with the other stains) ped
That fretless is very handsome. I like Vigier basses. There was a blue beauty in that shop in Colchester last year.
19. Wunjo on Demark street is the only place you'll find something unusual other than the Gallery. Andy's has lots of cheap 60's basses that would have been sold in Woolworths originally........... but now cost £549.99
20.
Aha, I might be able to help. I have two of these, one in it's original silver soft case. Cheers.
I want one! I've been looking for one of those for a while...
21.
Now that's a clever idea, just a shame westone was a sh!te make from the 80's.
That's what I thought, but the Rail bass was pure class. I saw one for sale in Denmark street a few years ago and wish I'd bought it.
22. I'd quite like a Westone Rail
23. When I was learning bass in the 70's it was always the guitarists who would say "you need a Fender Precision" and whenever I went out to a pub to see a band the bassist would usually have one - that or or a Rick. Jazz basses were rarer. So I will forever associate Fender Precisions with PUB ROCK, leather jackets and power chords... and I suppose treat them with indifference. My favourite P-bass player will always be Colin Hodgkinson and I also like the bloke from the Stranglers - and further back the Motown players though.
24.

Wow, that is really impressive (and charming).
