^^^Stupid phone, grrr! The strings on are rotosound 45's, I bought the guitar used and the previous owner had just put them on. I'm playing through my headphones at the monent, got some superlux hd668 (I like them). A lad from a local band has offered to come around to mine it's just finding a time that's convenient for us both. Thanks for all your input I'm sure I'll get there eventually. 😊

Thanks Cato, It is finger noise just very high pitched, do I need to release my finger a bit more, slowing down a bit or just forget about it? Don't want to pick up bad habits.

Carlcoops started following Your first tune. and Newbie help... Horrible noise!

Hi guys/girls I'm new to playing bass, I introduced myself a couple of weeks ago. I'm trying to teach myself bass by playing songs following tabs. But noticed I'm getting a horrible noise when moving from say the 6th fret down to 4th quickly. Not got much gain, a fair bit of treble and mids low and high trying to emulate the style of music I listen to without a p-bass. I'm using an epiphone toby deluxe iv and fender rumble 40 v3. I know its my fretting hand but what am I doing wrong. Please advise if you can and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Carl

I'm doing this right now. Never owned an instrument before. Got myself a bass and trying to teach myself. White Stripes - 7 nation army, almost nailed it. Then I've tried Smashing Pumpkins - Today also had a go at Fugazi - Blueprint. Sex pistols - Stepping stone is another. They're not bad, I've only had my bass 6 weeks.

Even more so with phones and apps available that get you bass tabs. Wish I'd started younger, I'm 43 now. Still plenty of time yet though.

Seems I'm not alone, I also kind of stopped listening after stadium arcadium. It was as though they grew up or something. Bet I can count on both hands the amount of times I have listened to it. 🙄

I was at the time big into the grunge scene but that album got me, its absolutely brilliant as are all the albums before it. I had it on tape and later bought it on cd.

I've only just bought my first ever instrument, an epiphone toby deluxe iv. Owned it about 6 weeks. Just starting to pick things up off YouTube and stuff. The song I've now learned (not perfect yet) is White Stripes - 7 Nation Army.

What are you listening to right now?

One of my favourite punk bands at the moment. Well worth a listen. -
To be fair I'm very much the same, can't really see myself being in a band any time in the future but who knows. Thanks for your input.

Hi all, my name is Carl and I'm a month into owning and learning how to play bass. I've never played any instrument before and took the plunge. I bought an epiphone toby deluxe iv (mustard coloured) along with a fender rumble 40 amp for a bargain £200 off gumtree both like new with leads and a boss tuner and gig bag. My main influences are the grunge and punk genres although I am partial to a bit of led zep or slipknot too. I started following a couple of YouTube videos but have since downloaded the songsterr app for my phone instead. Since then I learnt (to an extent) White Stripes '7 Nation Army' in a day and today had a go at Smashing Pumpkins 'tonight tonight' following the Bass tabs. I'm a little worried over picking up bad habits and also the fact that this is not teaching me notes, scales and other things. Am I better off learning scales and arpeggios and the theory side of it first or carry on with a 50songs to bass kind of way of learning. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
