Years ago we had a big ole fluffy cub called smudge, he was exactly the same colour grey as the inside fur of my bass case at the time. Once when I’d left it open, empty on the floor he was kipping in it and I didn’t realise because of his perfect camouflaging. and kicked it shut, he went f**king berserk . Shortly afterwards I stupidly left it open again and upon putting my Ibanez roadster in it for a rehearsal found he’d pissed in it! I tried everything but could never get rid of the smell. Had to dump it in the end ( case not cat) 🤣.Got his own back did the little bugger, lovely ole puddy cat though x

I hope you get on well, what pisses me right off is when a band advertises for a bassist, so you make polite contact, send them relevant info etc, reply promptly to any questions they ask , without being overly pushy or anything then ….. nothing. I wish people had at least some common decency to let you know yay or nay, and that’s before any audition!! After all, they are the ones supposedly seeking someone!! sorry, rant over 🤣.Hope it goes well x

I picked up a distillate for about the same price a year or so ago. They are great basses. I’ve had a couple of more expensive alembics in the past but i definitely prefer this. Someone go look and try it/buy it. I certainly would if it wasn’t up the other end of the country from me 🥴.

Thanks for the update Graham, ironically a Horsham based family started the smith and western chain, there’s one here still, though it’s moved premises, one at Crawley and think still up top of box hill, dorking too. Yes it was a long time ago , I was about 17/18.

I done my first gigs supporting the band Robin was in at the time called’ Boxing clever’ . We’re all from the Horsham area. Still see the singer Brent around to chat with. First gig was in a village called Blindley Heath in East Sussex. Blue anchor pub, no idea whether it’s still there!

First thing I’ve learned today is that the band Asia recorded six or more albums after John wetton left, but then again I didn’t even know they carried on from there anyway!! Also John Payne, the guy who Geoff downes asked to join as replacement, ashamed to say I’ve never heard of him either AND a company called Brown’s guitar company , based in Minnesota I think who made him what looks like an amazing signature bass, part fretless/fretted. Never heard of them either but look amazing instruments .where have I been??? 🤣.ill try and post a link.

I actually brought a standard made in USA fender jazz years ago (2012 model if I remember correctly?) to see what all the fuss was about. Considering they’re probably the most popular/recorded bass in history I found it the most dull, lifeless thing I think I’ve ever had the misfortune to lay my hands on….the only thing going for it I thought (a bit) was the neck profile. If there’s such a thingy as hating a bass that’s the nearest I’ve come to it…….go figure 🤣x

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, I actually ordered two but haven’t used them together at a gig yet, but watch this space…..😉x

Hi Dave, obviously I was also through the PA/monitors etc last night but at the three rehearsals I’ve used it so far it really is great at this.. I think the actual clarity of the mid/top end stands out for me. X 😊

Great gig last night at the castle theatre in Wellingborough, first show with my new LFSys monza . Fantastic clarity and the fact that you can hear it very well from all sorts of different standing positions really is so refreshing. Very happy with it so far

I’m very sorry for your losses my friend. We all enjoy playing our music and we make some great friendships and memories along the way.sometimes when a group of us get along so well it’s like a family , it doesn’t always happen but when (if) it does it just makes for some of the absolute best of times for all involved. I’ve not long taken delivery of 2x monzas from Steve.Decided a modular set up was best for me so I can utilise the full 4ohm of my tecamp puma 900 with the two when (if) needed. I’ve only used one at a rehearsal so far but first impressions are very very positive. The clarity is amazing ( I always prefer a clean sound anyway) and I found the bottom end nice and tight but certainly enough to not sound’thin’ at all. Gonna wait until they have some gigs under their belt before a proper review but very pleased so far. And the two together is very pleasant indeed but only had the chance to play them together at home and what with everything rattling it’s hard to get a proper’ idea if you know what I mean. I’ve put rubber feet on mine as I wasn’t happy that the way they stacked was stable enough.I’ve had six different BF cabs over the years that have served me brilliantly, but I think these bring something else to the table….x

That makes sense, d’addarios are my go to string normally anyway.Never use flats so can’t comment on that bit 😊

Strange because as much as I really do not like fender basses, i have to agree with you that their bass strings are actually very very good in my experience too.😊

I always think it’s ironic that my set up now is so lightweight and simple (bass=lead= amp= very small cab, no effects) and takes about a minute to sort out yet 99% of my time is spent helping lug everyone else’s stuff in/out and I AM expected to do it as well as drive the van sometimes. We have two drum kits to build/breakdown and i have to help unpack and wait until they are set up/ miked up before I can place my stuff because it’ll just get in the sound man’s way if I try to position it earlier. I am slightly younger than most of the core members and do sometimes think that’s the only reason I got the gig🤣. ’Appy dayz 🥴.Having said all that we do play some lovely venues and I do enjoy it ( mostly 🤣) x
