Listening to Hornos Del Cal and La Bestia, I kept thinking of Coldplay. The vocals in La Sangre y el eco reminds of an indie song that I hear on the radio all the time but the name of the band has annoyingly escaped me.

Its those prices plus the postage! I paid £79.02 for mine. I thought it was way too dear, considering the bass only cost just under £500 (in 2019). The trouble is the only other pick guard I found that I liked was about half that and though I liked it, it was only so so. The one I bought I just loved and I thought its better to pay over the odds for something you love than get something that is ok, for a reasonable price.

If Coca Cola ever resurrect the old advert with the New Seekers song, this would be the bass to play it on

I've had a Tidepool blue Player series Jazz for about 4 years and though I knew I wanted to get rid of the boring white scratchplate, I've struggled to find a colour to match the 'Tidepool' blue. Tidepool seems to me to be a cross between blue and turquoise; it's metallic blue with a hint of green. Anyway, a search on Etsy for custom pickguards led me to a Korean business called 'Stormguitar' who make this beauty below. I will admit to being influenced by some of @admiralchew's colourful pedals. I love the cartoon design and there is plenty of blue and green so it fits Tidepool well. Anyone else got any custom or flashy pick guards to show off?

Good thread for me this. Wifey and me generally visit the home of a bass playing mate on dec 31st, just after his kids have been put to bed. They supply all the grub and we bring presents. Two years ago it was a bass strap, from Pinegrove leather: https://www.pinegroveleather.com And last year it was a pedal board. Not sure what to pick this year so I'm keeping an eye out for any good suggestions.

I was 55 when I picked up a bass for the first time. I wish I had started 5 years earlier.

Would that be a Fender Meteora by any chance? Not seen anyone play one of these. How are you finding it?

Interesting this. Actress, according to Wikipedia, is Darren J Cunningham, who used to play for West Brom. Many of us here will remember Laurie Cunningham, who used to play for West Brom in the 70s & 80s. I suspect Darren would be Laurie Cunningham's son but I can't find any confirmation on the internet. Thom Yorke has worked with the London Contemporary Orchestra too, which is a good sign. I love Radiohead. I liked this. Cunningham's electronic stuff over the London Contemporary Orchestra's haunting avant garde soundtrack; I'm not sure if that is the right way to put it. I think it can be risky mixing genres and the last track, Hubble, sounds a bit like a track of techno music superimposed over a Shostakovich or Bartok string quartet. Apart from that track, I believe this works well. I'm a fan. Like all avant garde stuff, I have to be in the mood to listen to it but I would listen to this again. 7/10

I reckon we might see the 310 drivers placed diagonally, like the Vanderkley stuff. As long as the cabs are wide enough for a rack, 19", most people will be happy. We shall see.

I've read criticism of the Barefaced 10" range in the past, some people want a 4 ohm 410, some people want taller and thinner cabs like the 12" range. Perhaps these new cabs answer these criticisms. I'm intrigued by the 310, I wonder what shape that will be.

I like his reviews too. He doesn't do it for money and he isn't afraid to call out big corporations for flogging shyte to the masses. I will admit that a bass's appearance is very important to me, more important than the sound as with my rig I can get most basses to sound good. Nevertheless, what I personally think looks good may be completely different to someone else. An example of 'good for the money' in my stable would be my Charvels. They are basically Mexican Fenders with upgraded hardware, for very little more than a Player series bass (well at least when I bought mine, the prices have gone up this year). Imperfect, certainly, but good value.

He thought the Wunkay was a 5 star bass too: Like any review, there is a fair bit of subjectivity in his rating. He said it wasn't perfect but it has loads of 'Mojo'.

That's how I felt last year. First there was @Steve Browning's Mesa Boogie TT, then @cetera's Spectors, then @Merton's Trace Elliot TE1200 & @Happy Jack brought a reverend Wattplower...I had a great time. Bad for Gas though, if you value your financial solvency, stay at home and watch Eastenders Omnibus.

I'm originally from nr Philip Lane but I lived in Muswell Hill for 15 years, Ally Pally was a 10 minute walk! Now I'm up in Barnet.

I haven't lost a pick mid song yet, though I'm sure it will happen. Particularly when it's hot and sweaty my pick does often shift between thumb and forefinger. I suppose I would carry on with fingers and grab a pick if there is a break in the bass line during the song. I normally leave a couple of picks on top of my amp or in my left pocket.

@casapete's 'The ELO Experience' played in Stevenage last night. I went along with my other half and an ELO loving cousin. I got to meet Pete before the gig; its nice to meet up with people from here. Pete will have to tell us how this compared to his other gigs but I thought it was a great night. I can't remember seeing so many old people dancing at a gig! ELO were really prolific in the 70s so if you are 60 or older you would know many of their songs, and the audience were mainly over 60s... and we all knew the songs! I recommend anyone on here to go and see The ELO Experience when they next play near you. I will be seeing them again. Me and Pete before the gig (Pete has the shorter hair).

Three volume knobs would annoy me, I would much rather have a single volume and a Strat switch. Nevertheless, I can see Norwich City fans warming to this bass.

Medulla by Bjork I missed the 90s, I was a monk living in Burma and Sri Lanka for much of the decade and have only heard a few of her more famous songs. I like some avant garde classical stuff, like Sciarrino, Scelsi, Stockhausen, Ligeti, Arvo Part etc and also Throbbing Gristle, but listen to the genre rarely. When I do it is in a dark room, alone, at night. If I was in the mood, I would likely go back to something I know and like rather than Medulla. I didn't like it. Nevertheless, this has aroused interest. I might listen to some more of Bjork's stuff, possibly her earlier albums. I don't want to give a mark out or ten as I would like to have something similar to compare it too. The avant garde classical composers I mentioned above would be the nearest for me, but not near enough for a real comparison.

I do like the look; silver with tort, maple neck and pearloid inlays. They shouldn't all go well together but the end result looks quite classy. Congrats.
