Jamaican/Rastafarian colours bass guitar
BillyBass replied to Bass Novice's topic in General Discussion
@ped's suggestion would nearly suit your colours and as an owner of two Reverends, I can cofirm they are great basses. Failing that, there are quite a few red and black basses out there with gold hardware; buy one of them and stick a green pick guard on it. -
Not reading manuals is fine, it takes no time at all to work what does what, if you are a bass player. One of them should have remembered to check the active/passive thing though. I'm guessing they were rushing the video out to be the first.
-
I'm still in but only because Andertons haven't got the Z7s in yet.
-
I don't want to pre order one, I'm going to drive down to Andertons on the weekend after they arrive and try them out, check the colours etc. I'm away that weekend though! Bugger. I'll have to wait another week. Natural 4 string Z7 I think, maybe mint...

Congrats mate. Knob twiddlers delight that is. Can you get close to the Ampeg sound you like with all those EQ options?
-
Vintage features! Baseball bat necks, hidden truss rods, glossy necks and cheapo bridges. I'm glad bass guitars have evolved. What do I know though, I saw a bloke driving an Austin Allegro the other day, I'm sure he thought he was driving a cool retro car. I just remember the crap Allegro my dad had. it was crap back then and now it's even worse. Maybe I'm just a philistine.

But have you ever been blown away by the sound of a bass on a YouTube clip? I have been experiencing quite a bit of Stingray GAS and this offers me a way in which is affordable and hopefully under 9ib in weight. As @neepheid pointed out, the pre amp coupled with the humbucker is impressive. I'm looking for the Stingray sound but also other tones that I, as a covers/function band player might find useful. From what I saw/heard on the video, I reckon these might offer that.

Bands you love but dislike one or two of their songs a lot
BillyBass replied to JottoSW1's topic in General Discussion
Love will tear us apart is about as cheesy and commercial as Joy Division gets (or got). For grim have a listen to 'Decades'. music to string yourself up to. -
In spite of the video, the Andertons website is saying they will be arriving on the 22nd. I'm guessing they are just being a bit slow updating stuff. If that video was supposed to stir up GAS, it worked. I want one.

Not their best, certainly. I think the only recording I will fast forward is Sister Ray, but that is a cover. -

Yep. The only bands I know that had no bad (according to my opinion/taste) songs are bands that split up early. From back in the day, Joy Division had no poor releases, and I even like their more ragged Warsaw stuff, like 'Living in the Ice Age'. I can think of a few others too but bands that had some great releases that I love and also a few stinkers, well they number in the hundreds. -
I have two heads and three cabs. Assuming my last BF One10 sells, that will be two GK heads (Fusion 1200s & Legacy 800) and two BF 12"cabs (Super Midget and Super Compact). I ticked the 2 box in the poll but I suppose its actually a modular 3 with a back up head.

Looks to be a 2x12 designed to go under an SVT

I once had a chat with an Andertons employee about their moving in stock dates. They don't have any control over when the goods arrive but if you see the in stock date put back by, say 3 months, that means the stock that is about to arrive has all been pre ordered and they then start taking orders for the next batch. So I presume the Burgundy Z7s haven't all been pre ordered yet.
-
Andertons keep putting the in stock date back. It's now 22nd August. I am seriously tempted.

I have a no name Strat at home that I pick up every now and again (more again) and re start my attempts to learn guitar; unfortunately, there is no love in my heart for the instrument. I have a guitar playing mate and we often go to guitar shows together. Of all the guitars on show, I'm normally attracted to Teles and the brightly coloured guitars on sale at the PRS stand. Your PRS is beautiful.

I've read a lot of your posts over the last couple of years, and, correct me if I'm wrong, you have transitioned from P bass with pick to Ray with fingers. I recall in another thread you were looking for a pick tone with fingers? So have you found your holy grail? Once, when buying a £700 Charvel in Romford, I had a look at an American Ray hanging from the wall. It just oozed quality, I'm guessing the reason for the £1k extra over an American Fender is the extra work they must do on these things. Bit of a dream bass for me (that and a Euro Spector)
-
@BassAdder60 I notice you bought a teal Ray34 a week or so back and now you've bought this one. First of all, you lucky b*stard! Secondly, how does the Ray34 compare to the American one? I get the impression that older Stingrays and Ray34s can often be quite heavy? The newer Stingrays seem to be a lot lighter but they are all approaching £3k I love the look of Stingrays and I like bright coloured basses so there are plenty of Stingrays, both American and 34s that tempt me. What concerns me is the weight and also that sometimes I want something more than a bridge humbucker.
-
It was a bit disappointing. For the £16 entry fee we were expecting a bit more. Still, it was a day out to Brighton and we enjoyed our fish and chips looking over the (overcast) beach.
-
Anyone going tomorrow? https://www.brightonguitarshow.co.uk I'll be going, along with a couple of mates.
-
Exactly. If you want something a bit flash, Charvel and Jackson are there for you. If black and maple, sunburst or white are your thing, Fender won't let you down. Personally, I like flash stuff, so the only colour I like from the new range is the blue. The only differences I can see are rounded edges on the fretboard and a satin urethane finish on the neck, instead of gloss. Still, that is two improvements.

I'm glad Lobster is back, I loved his old videos and I'm looking forward to her new ones. Lobster received a lot of supportive comments on Talkbass, re the transition, but, unfortunately, there was also some hate.
-
Exactly! The speed is the most difficult part of it. But anyway, you do what works for you. As you say, there is a lot of good help on the internet.

Yep I think if Alex makes a limited run (like their dirt pedal) they will all sell out; there are enough Barefaced fanbois out there. If, however, he wants to take on GK, Ashdown, Mesa etc, these amps need to be really good. I am a bit of a Barefaced fanboi but I am also a GK fanboi and I really can't see his first amp unseating my Legacy 800. I don't want an FRFR amp, I already have barefaced 12" cabinets. I want some colour from the head, so, EQ and filters please.
