I've just had a conservatory built and shortly the flooring, decorating and electrics will all be done. It has sound proof (to a degree) glass and I will be using it as my practice space. I have installed a heater and can keep the temperature constant...ish at the moment but the heater will have a drying effect on the atmosphere inside. Also, I imagine this will get quite hot in the summer, the glass roof is made of 'solar glass' but it will be directly in line with the setting sun, and the rooms at the back of the house can be really uncomfortable during a heatwave. I would like to be able to store some basses in there but am a bit concerned about the temeperture and humidity changes could have a detrimental effect on bass necks. Anyone got any advice/experience to share?

I have the LucyDreamer. The lower gain I leave on a mild valve-like break up, which sounds lovely with a P-bass. The higher gain setting then ends up as a distortion setting, it is like having 2 pedals in one. If you open up the back you can adjust the difference in gain between the two; I haven't bothered as the factory setting suits my needs. I am a Jam pedals fan boy.

I received an email from them about these this morning. So, Origin effects take on tech21! I do like the look of the 'Super Vintage' but its not cheap, just a little shy of £400 from the Origin effects website.

What controls does the HPF have? Can you change the cut off/roll off frequency?

Welcome to the forum. That's not a bad collection of basses for someone who has been playing for just over a year.

Welcome to the forum mate.

I love my Jam Pedals 'Lucydreamer'. It has two gain settings and I set the first for a nice warm gritty overdrive and the second foot switch then activates a distortion effect. It isn't cheap mind, but I won't be swapping this for anything else.

I would guess the owner of this is a single, young male and an electrician.

That room is definitely a..."I'm not sure where the sofa and telly are going to go, and in case I change may mind..." sort of room.

Which 5 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2022 Inductees?
BillyBass replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
Agree with the above I also chose: MC5 Devo New York Dolls Rage against the machine My rationale being that these bands were all different and influential. -
I can't believe nobody has mentioned the greatest singing, bass playing, rock god ever. David Paton.

You write that your Kiloton sounds sterile compared to your P bass. Well, its a single humbucker bass with the humbucker in the Stingray position...ish. Its not going to be anything like a P bass. The tones we like are all very subjective. I love the Kiloton tone. Nice collection of basses though!

Good luck with the third one and post some pics when it arrives!

Another plus point of this bass is the luminlay side dots. They are quite effective. I turned the lights out for a bit to carry on adjusting to the new bass in the dark and the side dots really work well, just from the LED downlights in my lounge that it had been playing under previously, not from shining an ultra violet torch on them.

On further investigation/experimentation, I have found a nice tone on that B string with the bridge pick up soloed and a small boost of the mids. Nice and barky but without the G string peeling paint off the walls. I like that Jaco sound and with my Fender Player 4 string jazz I normally have the bridge pup on full and the neck just a little, with the tone on full. I'm not used to active EQs or B strings so my initial thoughts were uninformed. there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the B string I'm not used to the string spacing yet but I don't think it will take long, I can play chords on my Strat after all.

I'll let my mate know.

I searched for these after trying yours but they seem to be another casualty of the pandemic. One did come up on the 'Effects for sale' forum a week or so ago but I really shouldn't spend any more on bass stuff for a while.

Handsome isn't the word I'd use. Red, gold and cream! This is a burlesque bass.

Which pick ups should one get to upgrade a Spector Performer 4 PJ and get close to the Spector sound? I'm asking for a friend. I read that EMGs are like by Spector users, which passive set could fit into a Performer to give it more of a Spector growl? Any help will be appreciated.

Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas V courtesy of Andertons

I drove down to Andertons this morning rather than Guitarguitar as they seemed to have more choice. I tried the Charvel first it it was lovely. It sounded good, felt good and looked good. I tried a Sire V7 after that and it was fine but the Charvel had turned my head. I was interested in trying a fender Player Plus but they didn't have any in the little bass room. There were some Dingwalls but my missus would have killed me if I'd spent that much. I'm not a great fan of Ibanez stuff so I didn't bother with the Ibanez 5 string they had. So I bought the Charvel. My first impressions with the world of 5 strings are: I like having 2 octaves right there without having to run down to the dusty end. The B string doesn't sound as good as the other strings, though it doesn't sound bad. I will try some of the ideas re strings that @TheLowDown suggested but I have just brought it home and started noodling, I haven't set it up yet.

The floating thumb is how I learnt to mute a 4 string, its now a habit, the thumb floats without me having to think about it. Nevertheless, I do have a bit of work to do on the muting with the fiver I bought a couple of hours ago.

6 string? That's rather decadent. I barely touch my G string and the dusty end of my basses are generally quite dusty.

My Gas is affecting the particular 5 string bass I want but it doesn't mean the motivation and commitment isn't there. The whole reason for this is that learning to play a 5 string is something I have been putting off for a while. In our last rehearsal I had to detune to D standard for one song and it would have all just been much easier with a 5 string. I will be staying at home for a couple of weeks from Monday so its the perfect time to do it as I'll have plenty of time. You don't know me but the reason I started learning bass in the first place was a desire to learn and the constant learning keeps me going.
