1.
Debated weather to post this or not but decided it was quite funny. I AM trying to look like a tool btw, and I don't have to try that hard.
Hey there "bono" you should post your rig in the SWR porn thread
 2.
Fair enough if calling a bass "gay" is unacceptable (I can appreciate that there are some sensitive gays out there somewhere), but calling someone an idiot is OK? I've seen "chav" used quite a lot around here too. That's pretty offensive.
I already told you i'm not gay but i'm sick of hearing stupid kids in school calling me gay as an insult. Yes calling someone an idiot is not so bad because there isn't anything wrong with being gay but someone who is an idiot is not a singularly definable group and it's usually something that the person being insulted has brought on themselves, such as implying that people who work in theatre are more likely to be homosexual or saying that a bass has a sexuality and that there is something wrong with that bass's sexual preferences. Also the term "chav" means different things to different people. Just because you live on a council estate or have 12 kids by the time you're 25 doesn't automatically make you a chav. As far as i'm concerned chavs are people who go round leaching off government benefits knowing that they could easily get a job, blowing all that money on pot, kidnapping their own daughter and fooling the whole nation into giving them gifts and money, going round reckoning they're some gangsta and stabbing people etc... as far as i see they could be reasonable people, they don't have to be rich, they just have to be decent hardworking people who do what they can for other people as well as themselves without being criminals. But they're not, they're just lazy and selfish and don't care about what they do or how it makes other people feel as long as they're happy. That's what makes them chavs.
 3.
under £300? Must have been some bargains there!!!
old SWR cabs are pretty cheap these days.
 4. Looks like you might be a 5 string want to be player. I've personally always wanted to own a 5 string bass and i don't know why i didn't get one as my first bass really. Try them out and see if you like one.
 5. btw have you thought about borrowing waynepunkdude's 5 string? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=34283
 6.
Its a good job I don't live anywhere near you or I'd be down there to "try" it. I know GAS would get the better of me if I actually had one in my hands. I can see the point in them... just, well... if I didn't have a bass in E then the G would probably be needed, but outside of lessons I could live without a G. I can't say I'm (yet) someone who uses a huge amount of high notes. Everyone's input has been really appreciated and has been food for thought. If I look at things objectively, I'm not in desperate need to fix this problem so have time to think and work out the best way forward for me. Still trying to decide what I want to do on this. New strings. New 4, or give in to the evils of a 5. Indecision could be an issue here sooner or later.
Yeah 5 strings are evil, but in a good way
 7.
that sounds about right. how do i make sure if they are in phase with each other? and fix it if not?
it's pretty simple. If there is a big drop in volume and bass when you put them together chances are it's out of phase. Just switch the wires for one of the pickups round the other way and it should be fine.
 8.
As much as I detest Man U I have to admit, yet 'a bloody gain', that they're probably the best team in Europe
well they did win the european cup last year Sorry to hear about that. Disbanding a band always sucks but hey let's hope you'll have a blast with this new band you're in.
 9. Hey there i like the Dean bass, i was thinking of getting a dean bass at one time. How do you like the zodiac bass?
 10.
Montezuma Brown as well, so was a limited finish. Bought it from coda music, nearly fell over myself to buy it.
coda music have (or did have at least) some great deals. I remember they were selling new SR4's for under a grand!
 11. Hey there i like peavey basses. Another good one is the peavey milenium BXP which i can tell you is pretty great, i don't know about the zodiac but i'm sure it's much of the same thing.
 12.
I'm not quite sure why but I'm pretty resistant to the idea of a 5. I should probably take the next opportunity I get to try one. BTW A 6 is a gu*tar.
Nah mate i've already got one of those!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6_string_bass
"In 1975, Anthony Jackson asked Carl Thompson to build him a six-string bass guitar tuned (from low to high) BEADGC. Jackson's bass extended the range of the bass both lower and higher than a four-string. Though Jackson initially received much criticism for the new instrument, the deep sounds of the low "B" string become a standard in many genres including metal, R&B, funk, and gospel." Some things never change
 13.
Cheers mate. I've been having a look around at possible strings to give this a whirl - only taperwounds I've found have been £40. Ok its cheaper than a new bass... but still. Although, I have just taken another peek at the beast and everything looks ok except for needing to widen the nut slots; and I'm a little concerned about the saddles (hoping thats what you call them) on the bridge. How snugly should a string fit in those groves? I think a .130 would just be balanced on top rather than actually sitting in there.
Got it in one! You'll just have to try it out and see if they fit. I'm sure it's not the end of the world if it doesn't sit fully in the saddle. As you said, it's not going to be a perfect bass, just something to noodle around on. Also i agree with the 5 string idea. If you like having the low B then you should definetly think about getting one, i did and i never looked back. I'm even thinking of getting a 6 now.
 14. Sounds good Hope it does well, sure wish i could be in an actual decent band
 15.
My favourite was from the manual that came with the Yamaha CP70/80 electric grand pianos from the late 70s /early 80s. Those of you who remember these instruments will also know that these instruments split into separate parts to make them slightly more easy to transport. In the manual one of the diagrams showed how to fit the legs showing the end of one of the tubular legs and it's socket with a arrow indicating a rotating motion. Next to the arrow was the word F**K. What they meant of course was "screw"... Unfortunately although a web search reveals that PDFs of these manuals are available for download all the ones I've seen have since been corrected, but I can assure you having seen and actual printed manual for myself that at one point this was true.
I guess they mean the same thing!
ESP had a nice spelling mistake on their website a couple of months ago, announcing - in huge letters, lined with photos of evil-looking, tatooed, chain-wielding metal bass players - their new line of VITNAGE basses.
I really liked the look of them actually. I know what you mean though. TS (or OP, whatever you want to call it) That is pretty silly. It might seem petty but they're supposed to be a musical instrument company, they should know their thumbs from their corvettes!
 16. 32 digital tracks, not bad. I hope to get 8 when i get a new audio interface.
 17. Haha i remember my science teacher told me about an injury he got from being a goalkeeper, he lost the feeling of pressure in his thumb you can actually stand on it and he can't feel it! Forturnately he doesn't play the bass though.
 18.
Thanks mate
Haha i'd just like to say i like the avatar, really takes me back to a kid on holiday eating those weird ice cream thingies! I must say i definetly agree about Dood being amazing on bass, after all not every bedroom bassist is in a band with the likes of Thomas Lang! (seriously good drummer btw for those of you that don't know) If i wasn't such a bad singer i might have sent them an email
I never intended anyone to like my music apart from me
We are our own biggest critics so yeah if you like it then others most definetly must do as well.
 19.
I thought 'Front' (neck pickup) and 'back' (bridge pickup) were generally accepted terms :0)
I've always thought that it should be the other way round since i always use the bridge pickup for lead playing.
 20. Hey it's not just the ESP tom araya, i think the F400 bass is 35" as well. Also peavey make 35" scale basses such as the grind and cirrus basses, don't know if the 4 string models are 35" though.
 21. I remember thomann used to offer some really nice looking in house basses for about £250. I was always a bit dissapointed that they stopped selling them.
 22.
Many apologies josh3184 that I got the wrong end of the stick and didn't take this as a joke, I'm a touchy b'stard at the moment! Steve, it's $800 all in for the case and the bass. Steve at BRG (the dealer who is taking care of this run) is a great guy to deal with and I am sure he would let you pay in batches. All you need is $250 to lay down as a deposit by the 15th March. The Basses are being produced this year with the first one coming out around June/July. It will then take a few months to get the others out. This will give you 5 or 6 months to save up!
Hey that's okay. We all have bad days sometimes That's so tempting but i really would rather be getting a bass with more strings plus i dunno if i can be bothered with the US exchange. But £600 is very tempting although it'll almost certainly be more money due to exchange rate crap, vat and that. oooohhhh....
 23.
thisnameistaken's Warwick is from the same era as mine - I certainly wouldn't describe it as mass-produced. And I wasn't that taken with the Alembics I've played, I found my JD Thumb far more playable.
Okay obviously any bass that costs £700-2000 is not going to be "mass produced" by machines like a light bulb but it's probably going to be more mass-produced than a completely handmade bass like the amlebic. If you preferred the feel of your bass then that's good but i'm sure there are a lot of people out there who much prefer the feel of it over a JD thumb. Of course you probably won't want to hear it because i'm just some idiot who doesn't know what they're talking about!
 24. I used to own an ESP F-400 FM and it was the best guitar i ever owned. I had a go on a 400 series bass which is clearly a much better model but what i would say is that the neck did feel quite big and low which i thought was quite nice but you might not like it. A lot of people have said that the cheaper guitars are pretty crap quality, like BC rich. I would say that unless you've got at least £500 to spend then you're probably better off with a more "normal" looking bass. It doesn't have to be a crazy shape to be good for that sort of thing. Budget basses i would say are "metal" looking and good quality as well are Ibanez and Peavey BXP series. They're both considerably cheaper than the LTD as well.
 25. That's great. We should have a rat porn thread!
