1. Mind you, it's not as cheap as my first bass, pretty much the same as this, jazz copy, sunburst, open tuners- £71 incl delivery brand new. Having said that, it was from thomann so you won't get it for that anymore!
2. £88? Might as well have just bought that instead of making up my RatBass... Nah where's the fun in that
3. nice bass amps! Lovin the avatar, too.
4. Haha now i know why i left the forum before, you lot kept making me want to spend all my money on new bass stuff! Real nice gear guys hope i have the money to own a stingray 5 someday
5.
Having said that, a few minutes (gentle) persuasion with a hammer and small chisel, removal of the 'lump' in the middle of the damage might make it look a little 'Burns'esque. A bit of sandpaper to smooth it off, and it would certainly look unique.
Yeah i'll probably do that, does seem a bit odd that lump thingie.
6. "Oh yeah, y'know i just decided to slap another bass together, no biggie". Man, that's crazy, but great!
7. Hi again i bought some tuners and a couple of strap buttons today. The tuners are very nice black grover jobbies. So why did i decide to spend £45 on tuners when i could have just got some cheap jobbies off axesrus for £24? Well i figured if I ever decide to upgrade this to a proper nice bass (which would definetly have black hardware) then i'd have to go buy these tuners anyway so i may as well buy nice then risk having to buy twice. It might be a good incentive to actually perform such an upgrade, too. The strap buttons are some quite cheap £3 units. I don't really gig and if i ever do think i need my strap to be more secured onto the bass i'l just buy some of those cheap strap things for £1 or my preferred option, a couple of 20p washers
8. This is a real nice bass. The craftsmanship is very good, you're clearly quite good on the ol' router there! Very interesting shape, it'll be nice to see this finished.
9.
You're right, that does look pretty f***ed! haha And i'm not sure that your plan with the jack is gonna work because you'll be using a stereo jack with a mono lead/input into your amp, so one of your pickups won't work. You're best off soldering them both to the tip part of the output jack so they'll both work, though obviously you'll have no control tonally.
I really prefer the sound of the neck pickup and if i really get the urge to listen to the bridge pickup i'll just use a y splitter. Then i can plug it into 2 amps. 2 jacks would be a better idea but this was the only jack i had lying around. Perhaps i'll change the electronics one day to have a volume and a blend pot or something.
10.
looks like it'll be finished next october then
Wow I thought THAT was a long time, that was 5 MONTHS ago! Ahh well a good bass is always worth the wait
11. To be honest there really isn't even much point in looking on thomann right now, the exchange rate has pushed the prices right up.
12. Orite lads and lasses i've not been on in a while due to a few reasons, the first being i'm very paranoid . The other thing is that i've taken up the drums and i'm now doing them in a band so i've been spending a lot of time on DrummerWorld. Anywho, thought you might want to see my new RatBass, sort of like a RatRod but in bass form. The idea being that it's a fully functional playable nice sounding bass but pretty messed up looking. Just need some tuners and i can string it up. Then i just need some straploks and it's done, of course i might end up getting a new body, hardware and pickups to make a new bass if i can be bothered. The existing body, hardware and pickups are from a crappy old bass (really don't ask why it's so bad). The neck is a new neck that cost me £31.50 from ebay. There are no controls because i don't really need one and i can never seem to solder in pots without overheating them, causing them to die. The output jack is a stereo jack from a dunlop wah pedal, i decided to wire the middle pickup to the left/mono and the bridge pickup to the right, should i ever decide to use it. When i get some tuners i'll string it up and post clips, nice excuse to try out my new cakewalk on some actual recordings, too
13. EddieHimself been playing for about 2 1/2 years but not very good because he's spent all his time looking at basses on the internet and worrying about whether or not he has hypochondria. Owns an old 80's SWR half stack and a peavey 5 string bass.
14. I did guitar for GCSE performence. I failed miserably trying to play some bullet for my valentine on guitar (largely 'cos i didn't bloody practice!) forturnately i got full marks for the ensemble which was me and a mate playing my hero by foo fighters on guitar. I think it's the main reason i got a C 'cos the rest of my work was terrible. Btw even tho i'm an insomniac just like you i really reccomend you try to get to bed the night before for your exams.
15.
that no one in the universe can afford... lol
Not even Bill Gates?
16. compared to some of them that one was really boring. It was basically just without the looping and a bit out of tune. And the amp was f***ed.
17.
Correct me if I'm wrong here (and I probably am) - chucking is like playing with a pick - but without a pick. Yes/no?
isn't that what steve harris out of iron maiden does as well?
18.
Samson? I find ability is often inversely proportional to strap length. Alex
Is it b****cks!? To be honest especially as a bass player it's just as bad having the strap too high as it is having it too low because if the bass is at nipple height and you're playing fingerstyle it's a great way to get cramp in your right arm since you'll be bending it a lot to get up to the height of the strings.
19.

oh it's the new pete wentz sig squier grabber bass? lol but seriously please tell me you're not buying a pete wentz neck for it!
20. I've seen a lot of them and of the musical instruments i've seen the drums, cymbals (random trivia- "zildjian" actually means cymbal in turkish, the company is called avedis but they decided zildjian appealed more to english speakers) electric and acoustic guitars being made. Yeah it's a pretty mint show.
21.
Ye I've looked into it but don't know anywhere in the UK to find parts and all the colour spraying I could find cost nearly £200. If you could link me to some sites I'd be grateful. Cheers Ben
go on www.wdmusic.co.uk They have fully painted bodies for less than £200 as well as a massive selection of pickguards and hardware. Also www.allparts.uk.com does all sorts of necks, including maple with black block inlays. www.axesrus.com has various parts for guitars and basses.
22. give me £500 and i'll build you a bass from parts in those exact colours seriously though you could actually build a bass like that with parts for less than £500.
23.
Hehe happy days. I will be slinging my three basses in the car Luke so if I send you my pod patches I might as well leave my pod at home, too.
ped owns a pod? Anyway i can't come because northampton is no where near hull and besides i'm 16. I'd feel really weird hangin about with a load of old fogies
24. i'm definetly gonna be building myself a bass and at least the body will be from warmoth. I might buy some of the hardware from there as well.
25.
Hello all, I was in soundcontrol in Oxford street today and was having a look around and noticed how the stock of basses there has really depleted, but upon looking at some the small stock they did have, there was a USA S1 switch jazz, sunburst with a maple board, a black USA fender jazz with S1 switch again with a maple board and a USA precision, a dolphin grey also with a maple board and they were on sale at £699 each, not a bad price for a USA fender from soundcontrol is it? Unfortunately I didnt have the time to sit and play any of them but I thought I'd post a heads up incase anyone was after a USA fender at a good price
there's another thread on here about fender discontinuing the s-1. I think that might explain the price.
