A bit of a hard question to answer, most if not all the bassist's who I listen to and draw inspiration from, I have seen in certain capacities, such as live and recording. But as you said, your not one for Technical Proficency, that's what hooks you in to a bass player or drummer or whoever. Whereas I like to see good examples of good technique to thus inspire me to further perfect my own technique, I can't see how thats wrong in some peoples eyes.
i don't think it's really the fact that you like people with good technique it's just the fact that you seem to hate anyone who has "bad" technique even if they sound awsome. I'm not having a go i'm just saying maybe that's how some see it. Any way let's face it you can name ANYTHING and it will be bad in some people's eyes.
 2.
Oop sorry - I mean ride cymbal.
ah yes well my ride cymbal funnily enough was free. Not bad eh? My kick drum pedal cost more than my bass tho. But to be fair it's one of the best you can get, it's got aircraft bearings Before you start playing properley you think that the skins are these thin plastic things that are like ballons or something and are just gonna pop if you whack them too hard. They are actually very tough tho. As long as you know how to get a good sound out of them without whacking them too hard then it shouldn't be a problem. Not very portable tho i know. I think if i lived in london i wouldn't want to bother with a car either unless i was rich or something.
 3.
Drums are heavy, expensive and fragile. To be a drummer in a gigging band you also need a van. The drummer in my current band has a ride that costs more than my bass.
yeah that's the funny thing about cars y'see. They're quite expensive. I wouldn't say drums were fragile tho, not if you get the right hardware for them.
 4. <---(!!!!) Yeah i like my drums. I've actually spent more money on drums than bass! Well to be fair they're not exactly cheap. Whereas bass is one instrument, every drum and cymbal is like a seperate instrument that you have to learn a slightly different technique for. Yeah, innit?
 5. ^I'd reccomend a used midrange bass. Personally i don't care if someone else has used it before as long as they cleaned it up and everything so as far as i'm concerned it's more for your money. And yeah bass players are WAY cooler!
God knows what happened to the Bass Cellar since Simone left, but they have a distinctly odd idea of customer service. There was a notice on the wall which said something like 'Want a bass, but got no money? Well don't waste our time!' I think that's appalling.
when i went in i tried out a £1000+ peavey cirrus even though i had no money and they were fine with it. Maybe they added this new policy in the last 6 months tho.
 6.
So in conclusion... I am never again going to subject myself to the obtuse shop assistants, extortionate prices or limited variety of rubbish British music shops. Hooray!
to be fair though you can sometimes bag a bargain from your local. (erm music shop that is) I know what you mean tho, I HATE to be stereotypical (although you REALLY would NOT know it, would you? ) But i think they're just much better at this whole shop thing in germany. There is one big problem tho which is at the moment the euro exchange rate is pretty dire. I think one of the reasons for that is we are importing a lot of our goods rather than buying from british stores. Which is bad for the economy in case you didn't know
 7.
Presumably if said member of staff had loved Heather Mills instead
who actually likes HER?
your bass would be on its way to the bottom of the Atlantic by now...
8.
I was shown these vids of a fantastic drummer playing along to those good ole Mario tunes. If you enjoy watching some great drum chops, I think you'll like these. Right up my street! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=SZqwvjwqwK4 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EF9e2ZVAapE
seen it b4, that guy is bloody ace! Italian too, very appropriatley.
 9.
If you're putting a bass in the luggage, should you slacken off (i.e. de-tune) the strings?
no-that's just what idiot delivery companies who know nothing about guitars say.
 10.
I'm much more impressed by the drumming in this video than the bass playing, the guy seems to have a nice sense of groove, even though he is a little busy with the snare at times!
yeah the drumming is pretty decent. I know what you mean about having way too much time on their hands, bit like me!
 11. to be honest i think your just being a bit grumpy and old. I think you just like old music better so no matter how good something new sounds, you just won't want to listen to it. Also i think the comment about stuff sounding better looking back on it is true too. I mean there are 2 things we are going to remember about music in this decade in 20 years. That's the really great music and the really really crap music. It's like for me, i know that in 2006 i thought i was having a proper sh*t year. Looking back on it, it actually doesn't seem bad at all. I was inspired to play by bands who were recently formed. it's what i grew up with and i don't think you can truly see how inspiring something is unless you grew up with it yourself. You didn't grow up with it so i can see why you might not understand why people think it's so good. But just because you can't see anything in it doesn't make it crap music. So i would appreciate it if you would stop insulting some of my favorite music.
 12.
Just need to convince her indoors that its an investment which will only increase in value.
she doesn't have to know what i just said of course it probably will increase in value if you keep it in good condition since it is an instrument that you can't really get new these days from fender.
 13. late 70's/early 80's fenders don't really have that much vintage value added but since it's in good condition, pretty much the same price as you'd get a new lefty p and i doubt you'll find one new in that colour scheme any way then you may as well go for it. Oh and not to mention new ones don't come with the chrome covers which do look quite nice.
 14.

haha maybe you should think about some speakers next
 15.
OK so it's very Joy Division, but in the absence of the real thing I think, it's an acceptable substitute and certainly an improvement over Interpol or The Editors.
it's funny you should say that because i think the melody is very remeniscent of those bands. What's so bad about either of those 2 bands tho? I think with the other 2 vids you posted the bass kind of just did what it tends to do too much. Follow the guitar line.
Finally someone agree with me! I have grown very frustrated with todays music, and have repitably thought "Why do these guuys mention Entwistle, Lee and Squire as a influence, when they sound just like everyone else" And regarding to looks, yeah, we dont have any Rockstar looking "new" bands at all. No one look like Entwistle and Townshend, and no one manage to get the spirit of music out there, i feel that most people just write the songs, and dont give 'em the love and what they deserve. A noteable exeption is Amy Humphrey from Clatter.. Shes realy doing something for the instrument.
I'm not even going to argue with you but i'll just say that i think you're wrong.
 16.
Mine are turned off in settings!! Think I'll have a listen...
YOU CAN TURN THEM OFF!!?? Why has no-one told me this before?
 17.
Is that your drumkit? Only one fifth as good as a bass?
very funny mate. No read the post above yours.
 18.
Apparently.only if you have most of the parts and are building it,not just if you have a spare bridge or pick up lying around So =1305.5
OI MATEY!!!! As a matter of fact i do have all the bloody parts and then some they just don't quite fit together properly! so 1305.8 for annoying me.
 19.
Mike Dirnt of Green Day? even if he is a Paul Simonon clone.... maybe the list of Fender and squier signature basses reveals who's inspiring kids to take up bass- Pete Wentz? (but he comes across as completely dumb in interviews)
pete wentz is sh*t, the only reason he's so inspiring is 'cos 14 year old little emo kids think he's proper fit. Mike dirnt is quite good, apparently he's a bit of a twat tho.
 20.
+ 8.5 B.C.Rich basses 1292.5 2 of which are 8 stringers
oh we can have fractions of basses? then+ 0.2 =1305.7
 21.
Thats atleast 5096 Strings assuming all are 4 string bases which alot are not!!!
i thought the average will be about 4.2 which would make it 5381 strings. To the nearest string
 22.

one small step from as i've said b4
 23. This girl i fancy plays the drums, love to have a one-to one session with her (not Meg White, either. Much better looking ) Oh right your on about PLAYING MUSIC? Dave Grohl.
 24.
Ye Gods & Little Fishes - that's a hard web-site to get around (unless you speak Manga, that is). Is there an English-version, user-friendly one I can get to instead?
try babelfish actually probably doesn't have a manga translation!
