1.
I'd rather have a cheap bass and a good amp than the other way around!
that's exactly what i think as well. But if i have a good amp already then why not get a good bass to go with it?
 2. ^+1 actually Peavey basses are really bloody good value for money AND they look bitchin'!
 3. 1. Yes he can handle it fine. It really annoys me the amount of people who think their hands are too small when it's just because they're too lazy to learn to play properley. 2. to be honest i don't know but i think bass lessons would probably be better. 3. may aswell get the 270. it's only £20 dearer.
 4.
When in a band context, if I hear a part that goes lower or I need a lower note, I simply downtune to the appropriate note.
ok i don't quite understand this. You say that as if it's simpler then just having a string with lower notes on it which it's not really. 5 string btw.
 5. you could try the takamaine copy, however as well as being light it is unforturnately also quite sh*te (nice rhyming triplet there )
 6. i think a modified version of a quote i just read, although i didn't like the original 'cos it was dissing the NHS, summed up my opinion on this nicely:
The reason the number of 4 string basses is high is due to historical reasons rather than it being the best system
that's just what i think though.
 7.
BUT there's no going back once you've had that extra string! It's going to take a lot of practice and I don't know if I'll ever be able to spank it like I can the 4 string but maybe I should consider it to be a different instrument.
i agree. My bass is a 5 string peavey millenium BXP. Only like £200 and very good quality. It's my only electric bass and quite frankly the only one i need since i'm not in a band, although i would like a 4 string for drop tunings. But that's just 'cos i'm lazy. To be honest the great thing about a 5 is if you are any good with your left hand in theory it's the only bass you'll need from E standard to drop B or even A tuning without any need to retune.
 8. i quit my own band and kept the name and songs. I am starting to question the point in even playing music myself. Let alone never buy anything else apart from lunch and music stuff for several years in order to make a home recording studio with over £18k worth of stuff in it. maybe i should just be like most 14 year old girls and skip lunch altogether. Probably wouldn't be worth it tho even with my impatience. By the way working on your skills for all 3 instruments (guitar, bass, drums) can really help you out with songwriting. You might even enjoy it!
 9.
Hahaha! Alright then, but seriously, you can get a 7-string for much much less than that - I'd recommend one like my own, although I actually have a low F# which is presumably not what you're after, but you can probably get something vaguely similar without paying ridiculous amounts - better still, get the 8-string version!
I know what you mean. But i want to start getting more expensive stuff otherwise i'll end up with loads of cheap basses. Seems that suits you tho <a href="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bill-Dickens-Signatu...1QQcmdZViewItem" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bill-Dickens-Signatu...1QQcmdZViewItem</a> Besides depends what you define as a "ridiculous amount." It might be £800 but if it looks, feels and sounds like an £800 bass or better then it's not a ridiculous price.
 10.
Just under €2,000?!?!? I know someone who has that exact bass, and I don't think it cost him that much... I can't honestly say I recommend it either... he seems to like it and apparently he barely plays his other basses, buttt he does play a lot of widdly upper fret stuff and he moved on from a 4 to a 5 to a 6 beforehand, so in other words, get yourself into ERBs before you go crazy
yeah i think the site is a bit of a rip-off to be honest, they're selling a USA peavey milenium for €2090. I think you can get conklins on ebay for like £5-600 or something like that. I did see one once but i don't remember the price.
Just under €2,000?!?!? I know someone who has that exact bass, and I don't think it cost him that much... Besides i do play quite high and i've got a 5 string.
 11.
I've decided on 32'. It makes more sense as the Kubicki's and King Bass are both 32' - should make getting strings easier too Thanks for all the positive comments, next up will be pics of the neck woods.
no mate what i ment was that you said 34 foot. '=foot "=inch. Classic mistake that was very well outlined on "spinal tap" edit: oh nevermind i see doods explained it already!
 12.
34' scale
wow just imagine the piano-like tones you could get out of that monster, i can't imagine you'd be able to play very fast if you needed a very tall ladder just to play the 1st fret!!!
 13.
(FIVE MONTHS?!!)
looks like it'll be finished next october then
 14. lol at the fact u say "not enough love for bc riches" and there are 2 bc rich posts in a row!
 15.
I think if you get a 5-string and use your low B a lot and you have a reasonable excuse to use fairly high notes (anything above the 12 on the G, really), then you'd probably be able to make good use of a 7-strin
thanks for that. Might get me self one as soon as i've payed for the other £30k worth of stuff i want to get with my £105 a month income i was looking at this actually: just under €2,000. looks good tho.
 16. wow it's so shiny it's reflected in the carpet!
 17. i just lost intrest as soon as the guy said "bass guitar" in the video.
 18.
Threaded inserts to take the neck bolts, probably overkill but it was some thing I wanted to try
definetly not overkill at all in my opinion, something more basses should have.
 19. show that to the guy who sold it you and he'd probably have a heart attack.
 20. it's not really worth it, if you want a bass for 70 quid then just get one from thomann http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbp120bk_ebass.htm same price, much more respectable company, they're actually alright basses too.
