1. Yes. Next thread please.
 2. I think it is a sound that has to come from the bass itself. You could try upping the midrange (the 500-1kHz sort of area) and adding a bit of compression with no attack to give you a bit more of a sustaining sound but I don't think you're going to be able to get the fender tone out of it. I think 130 is a bit heavy for drop C if I am entirely honest. Also, don't complain about using a cheap bass. There is no reason any bass can't sound decent on a recording if the frets are in good nick and it has been well set up.
 3. What is happening is that the signal from the XLR-XLR cable is "balanced". That is to say, 2 signals have been sent out of phase from the DI to the mixer, which then puts them back in phase. This means you get a louder signal, and most of the noise picked up by the cable is cancelled out. Sounds as if there is a lot of interference coming from the cable somewhere if it is buzzy, or it is just a crap cable.
 4. I have been "producing" for 6 and a half years now, and none of my friends or bands have wanted me to put anything together for them . Oh well, good luck. If you want any constructive criticism of anything, just put a post of some of your stuff on here.
 5.
I'm glad to say that my enthusiasm is still greater than my ability. And I'll be happy for it to stay that way
+1
Some interesting comments here about how someone can be a perfectly good bassist ( perhaps any instrumentalist?) without having an understanding of music theory, note positions, scales, chords etc. Macca is famously quoted as not being able to read or write music and, whatever your opinions of him, it doesn't seem to have held him back. So . . . . why does music teaching always concentrate on the theory, on notes, scales, chords etc? I'm not suggesting there is no place for such teaching - of course there is - but why is there no alternative teaching methods that promote the 'self-taught' methods such as jamming along to favourite songs, showing how to play certain licks, that sort of thing? Or maybe there is and I've never noticed.
I think there are certainly teachers who do encourage people to use those sort of methods, but they're usually your "local guitar shop" type teacher.
Somebody that describes themselves as an expert is most probably going to be an unbearably almighty bellend, regardless of whether they actually are an expert or not.
+1. Unless they are applying for a job, then you're expected to act like a boastful arrogant twat to get your foot in the door whether you are actually like that or not. I would definitely not say I am anywhere near an expert in any musical instrument. I like to think I know how to record a good sounding song, but I have never really been taught the "proper" way to do that either, I have just really learned it all as I go along, and read a few bits of good literature about it here and there.
 6.
Get one of THOSE and I am definately popping round for a cold one and a looksie! I hear they are planning one based on the new Portaflex amps. They will only accept Ampeg beer though, and switch off if you put anything else in...
lol. +1 to that anyway, if I am ever in the west midlands and you don't mind having a visitor I wouldn't mind having a nose around the place. If I ever land my dream engineering job I will probably be building a studio in my house, albeit nothing on this sort of scale.
 7. Gr8 looking guitar. White on black with a maple fretboard is definitely a nice look.
 8.
Agreed, if we are talking about a "build" or "bitsa" per se then of course it's not a case of butchering a quality instrument for the sake of fitting an aftermarket gimmick, so I would be ok with that, but even having said that, let's face it: there is chunky, and there is mastodontic and that Warmoth bridge it's lke sailing with the anchor dragging on the sea bed, it's huge and unsightly, a Badass is the limit I'd go to but not that size, it's like a blooming crane counterweight!
That's cool mate, it's not for everyone obvs.
 9.
I think its a fairly new thing that people start playing bass as their first instrument in the first place (hear me out!), when I started playing in the mid/late 80's it was on acoustic guitar at primary school then I went to electric in the first year of high school. I only started playing bass when a mates dad had a Rose gibson copy in a deal with some gear, I kept on elec guitar but always played bass in a band situation and tended to listen to bass lines too, in the 3rd year of high school I decided to sell my Ibanez guitar to buy a decent bass of my own. For the majority of players my age and older I bet their stories are similar? Funninly enough these days at a half decent level I find most bass players can play to a reasonable standard on guitar but the guitards struggle to play a bass line as such?
I would have do disagree. Firstly although I would say I am better on bass than on guitar, I did start off on guitar and move onto bass, due to band requirements. Also if what you describe is the trend these days, then my band definitely bucks that trend. The 2 guitarists are pretty competent on bass (lead teaches bass along with guitar at the local guitar shop and rhythm used to play bass in a band), but the bass player is not capable of playing the guitar very well, tried to teach him but then he lost interest.
 10.
But if it's a Warmouth build like the OPs the route would be original .
This. I think you have maybe taken this slightly out of context. My point is that if you are getting a new bass made anyway (as in the case of the OP), it doesn't really make any difference to the value of it at the end.
 11. Yes. Without a doubt. I always think it is better to be able to play another instrument, especially if it is another instrument in your band. I am not sure you will be able to start off on things like Opeth. But start off on the basics and I am sure you will be playing stuff like this in no time As for starting off on an acoustic or electric, well I got a classical guitar starter pack thing at age 11 but I was never really motivated to start learning until I got an electric. I think it is really to do with what you would rather play and you might as well just start off on that. In this case I suppose it would be electric. Also, as a precaution, you will want to stick some heavy strings on it, as being a bass player it will feel like you are playing nothing lol.
 12.
I draw the line at anything that requires me to drill, route or dig into my wood. Hell no. Nein Danke!
Das ist eine Schade. Seriously though, how do you expect to get a bridge on? It doesn't just sit on there, y'know
 13.
i do the same:) stop the song but some times i canot explain it is like is slow motion the song to my head especially with too much adrenaline in my vains.
This is what I thought. Are you sure it is definitely him slowing down? Or do you think maybe you are just speeding up and not noticing? I think that is what you have got to establish first.
 14.
Besides isn't the main feature of Hiphop rap-style vocals? Since none of the clips had any vocals on them none could have been hiphop.
That is exactly what I thought. The samples used in hiphop are from a wide range of musical genres.
 15.
Hahaha!! Didn't proof read that well enough then. I was just having a think, and I'm insured to cover 8,000 miles a year, even if I did 1,000 of those at peak times, which is very likely, I'll be paying way over £1,000 to use the roads! If I pay 1p - 2p a mile the absolute minimum I'd be spending is at least what I'm paying now! That made my mind up and I'm against it. Is this reminiscent of the rates>polltax thing we had possibly? Dan
Probably. Btw this should be in off-topic.
 16. I got a bit confused about the click track test since i wasn't sure whether they meant they were supposed to be slightly off the beat or like way off.
 17.
Hi Si. I recorded drums recently with a 57 on the snare and a 58 inside the bass drum and wasnt happy with the results. I had to use these because I didn't have anything else. I'm not sure why the 57 never worked on the snare but it might have been poor placement. Do you think the 58 should have been on the drummer side recording the attack rather than inside the drum? The drums are rubbish aswell so that didn't help.
You can get plenty of attack from recording inside the kick drum. It is a matter of accentuating the upper mids for the "click" sound which not everyone likes but it certainly gives you a lot of attack.
 18.
I'd be tempted to react angrily to you saying "there is only ......it" but I am not an angry person. Let him breathe.
Fair enough mate, if you want to walk all over your band's sound then fine. I'm not having that in my band though, the sound of the song IMO is much more important than any one persons' ego.
Is this the same guy who said Stuart Hamm couldn't keep time?
Chill mate, that was 2 years ago lol. I stand by what I said though. Maybe he was having an off day?
 19.
Usable Frequency Range: 30Hz - 10kHz (22kHz with tweeter) Recommended Amp Power: 300-1500W RMS This cab will utterly outperform an Ampeg 810, in every appreciable way, including being heard clearly across the stage (vertically mounted 12" drivers dispers far more evenly than the horizontal pairs of tens in an 810 cab). Oh, and it weighs rather a lot less too. And yes, I've played through 810's and this cab, and this thing is just nuts, absolutely no comparison.
My friend has got one of these. I must say I am tempted to get one at some point...
 20.
I'm not sure what the problem is with the bass line in the song you linked? I think it's fine?
Nothing wrong with the bassline in the song. I was just using it as an example of our band's sound so others on this thread could hear whether it sounded too "simple" or not (I don't think it does though).
 21. Sounds good. Try not to give up on the guitar though, there is no reason you can't play both! I think it is normal to get sick of the guitar and want to play bass or whatever, I do that all the time. If you want a 5 string, I would reccomend looking at a Peavey BXP bass such as a cirrus or grind. Great basses, great value.
 22.
This is the same forum where people like to spout off about guitarists who don't want to be parted from their Marshall half-stacks, right? Am I the only one here to sense a touch of irony? Here's the thing - most modern professional players just don't do this sort of thing. As several people have already pointed out modern equipment is smaller, massively lighter and every bit as loud (GB STL 900 + 2xVanderkley 112 MNT = approx 1000w). How anyone can justify more than that in strict musical terms escapes me.
I quite agree. It all seems highly hypocritical. The fact is that the amps don't need to be any louder than the kit on stage and the low end can be determined by the PA system in house. I remember my old 600 W 4x10 rig with 2 vented 2x10 cabs had plenty in the way of low end. Easily enough to drown out the kick drum. That is one of the reasons I got rid of the extra cab- I had the neighbours complaining about the amount of bass, and these are the same neighbours that are ok with me drumming every day! No need to have a rig like that for band practice.
 23.
51m0n, I have the Red5 drum mic's and the Red5 valve microphone and they are far great for the money, better than a lot of the budget Chinese stuff.
You are preaching to the converted mate
 24.
Sweet Jesus, Eddie. I'm hugely impressed. That's some mighty multi-instrumentation, matey. Never realised you were so talented. Not being rude or patronising or anything, but it's a startling revelation - rather like opening one's wardrobe and finding Albert Einstein inside.
ty . Did you not comment on my original thread about this song? It was a while ago.
Ditto. Though, unlike Skank, I am firmly of the mind that closets should contain Tom Cruise; whilst wardrobes may be permitted of any combition of magical realms of small oriental men well versed in the martial arts.
I agree. Whoever is in the storage compartments of your house should be sufficiently compact as to not take up too much room.
