1. axesrus sells black pickguard screws. And you they sell jack sockets with black nuts on them as well . Can't beat a bit of black, that's what I say.
 2.
How about an Ampeg BA500? Lovely sounding combo. As it happens I know a very nice man who has one for sale! http://basschat.co.u...-ba500-for-sale
Nice try lol.
 3. I've not really done one. Might do later, we'll see.
 4. There is only one way to settle this argument: http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/mythbusters-polishing-a-turd.html
 5.
If your budget is £100 (I guess about $150 US for me) I would STRONGLY recommend building a board and using the cash left over for a case. If you're handy with some wood, hardware, and tools you can take a half a day and build a super strong, INEXPENSIVE board from supplies from your local hardware store and then invest in a nice carrying case or protective bag. I've built a simple rectangular frame from 1" by 1" or 2" x 1", then put in some support wood bars going across, and then covered the top with a sheet of plywood. I think I maybe spent $30 for the whole thing.
That sounds like a microscopic pedalboard Seriously though, it sounds like a good idea if you're good at that sort of thing.
 6.
Is this unusual?
Not really. I guess it depends on what you're doing really but if you're looking for the particular sounds that those basses offer you to suit the recording then anything goes. You might find that the bass you use for gigs also suits the type of sound you would like on your recordings. Conversly, you might prefer to use a cheaper bass live that you can afford to knock about a bit and the bass with your preferred sound is kept at home with the family silver. There are a lot of recordings that use several different bass sounds on one track. One that springs to mind is "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica. I don't know if you've seen the video but they play a plethora of guitars on that recording, each with a sound that suits one particular part of the recording.
 7. He's got to want to learn really. I had a similar problem with a guitar player who couldn't keep in time very well. I told him he needed to work on it but he never ended up doing it. Maybe they should just say to him to work on his timing and if he doesn't start putting some practice in on that front then time to get a new one.
 8. I think you've got to stop worrying about "why" everything is the way it is. If you keep on asking "why" about everything, your brain will just end up hurting. Why do I do it? I suppose it's because I enjoy it, it makes me feel good and it gives me something to do. If you feel like you're not enjoying it any more, maybe it's time to take a break or something?
 9.
A Peavey Classic 30. About £250 secondhand. Brilliant.
This.
 10. Really digging that. Looks nice.
 11.
I would tart it up but I can't play so I'll not waste the money yet .
It doesn't stop some people though
Just scored this out of Cash Converters this morning- it's a Schecter Omen Extreme 7 string. Looks great from the front, although the back and sides are pretty scratched and chipped. Plays nice, although it needs some new strings and a setup. I think I did OK on the deal too- swapped it for my old laptop, which they were going to give me £150 cash for. This still has a price sticker on the back reading £250, although it was on offer at £200. Don't ask, don't get...
Epic, £150 is a pretty good price.
 12. I was going to get one of them but I ended up just selling the guitar instead. Much prefer hardtails, myself.
 13. I don't think filler will work. Can you not try a bigsby that fixes onto the end of the guitar body?
 14.
The '58 body shape is identical to the '56, with regards to contours and overall size, the only difference here, is the routing for the split coil pickup and the different, elongated control cavity, everything else is the same.
Also the difference in the location of the output jack. But yeah nice collection, you are a lucky man!
 15. I love the look of that paint. I've tried painting basses before but the problem is that it always seems it's going well, until I try and put the clear coat on and then it all goes to pot. My last one turned out ok (although far from perfect) after a LOT of polishing but it seemed to have some sort of reaction where it sat on my stand and rested on my trousers when I was playing sitting down. Anyway, enough about me seems to be coming together well so far.
 16.
We moved house a while ago (4 yrs) and I haven't got anywhere to put my guitar amps. And it's a rent, so no annoying the neighbours. So they're still mostly wrapped up Worst Guitar Rig Shot Ever .
That sucks whatever is in there looks pretty epic though lol.
 17. surely he's allowed to cover it if he wants? Ok sure it's possibly not the best cover song I've heard, but at least they've put their own spin on it. Nice bass amp, too.
 18. Very nice guitar. None of that messing about with the intonation on the bridge either lol.
 19.
Thanks bud. Until recently all things guitar were a mystery to me, but somehow I've ended up playing guitar with mates. It's all a bit beyond me though lol!
Np. It's never easy picking up a new instrument, no matter how similar it may be in theory to the one you're already playing. I'm sure you'll get there in the end though
I can't imagine it harming anything, especially with a solid state amp. I think reverb pans are designed to be used a particular way up though, as one of the letters in the Accutronics parts numbers is for orientation. So your reverb might not behave as it's meant to.
I've never found it to be an issue. The springs are basically suspended in the air and will quite happily resonate at whatever orientation they are put down on. Mind you, I don't really use reverb that much anyway.
 20. It is absolutely no problem whatsoever putting a guitar amp on its side. Peaveys especially are built extremely solidly and TBH if the chassis can stand up to having the transformer pushing down on it when it's upright, it can handle having it pulling on the side. I've personally had my amp on its side for years and not had any problems at all
 21.
He uses it for pop & hiphop stuff so the toms want to be really tight sounding as appose to having massive sustain. He also does that with the kick drum but uses the beaters as well. The double pedal has gone now though, he doesn't need it. That concert tom is just a standard size floor tom with a suede skin on it, tuned down low with do bottom skin, essentially a sub kick sound when mic'd. The only thing missing from the picture is his new Roland SPDS-x which i'm having masses of fun on at the moment triggering samples and loops with the band.
Yeah I guess that makes sense. Obviously when you're playing heavier music like me then too much "control" on the toms would leave them completely lost in the mix. I guessed it was just a standard floor tom, from the fact that it still has the leg and bottom head mounting hardware on it lol. The electronic drum stuff sounds interesting. I toyed with the idea but I've not really needed it thusfar since I can just program it on my computer. Maybe when I move out I might be required to get one.
 22.
Well I started a thread on this somewhere else, but this seems the appropriate place! Who has got one, and what's the impression? Can you point out some recordings done with that? Isn't it a great compromise, as I suppose you could always use a capo and use it as a guitar, or to do bass lines? Anyone ever used one? Any baritone-guitar porn?
It would be a compromise yes. If you capoe'd it at the 5th fret, that would make it a shorter scale than a standard guitar and it might end up sounding muddy. They're a good idea if you don't like having really heavy strings on your guitar but I've never had a problem with just using a standard 648 mm scale guitar for tuning down to B. If I wanted to go down further, say to F#, then I might think about getting a longer scale 7 string guitar.
 23. Unless you are really desperate for the disk space, might as well use the 24 bit. The number of "bits" in a wav file is how big the data string for each "snapshot" of audio is. It basically determines the dynamic range of your recording. With 0 dB being the "upper limit" to the volume level, 16 bit gives you a noise floor of -96 dB and 24 bit gives you a noise floor of -144 dB. This is all theoretical of course, since you can't really match that sort of dynamic range with the signal to noise ratio of any d/a converter equipment, which is about 124 dB max. Whether you'll actually hear a difference depends on how the sound has been recorded, how it's been produced and what type of equipment you are using to play it back. A low budget recording played through low budget speakers that has been compressed to hell will not give you any difference between the 16 and 24 bit versions, for example. The advantage of using 24 bit though is that it gives your computer some space to work with when it's encoding the audio down to 16 bit.
