1. Very nice. Like the finish. Not particularly keen on those short toms myself, I prefer the sustain you get with deeper ones. That concert tom on the left looks quite interesting and the cymbals are very nice as well. What I would say is that I remember I used to have the beaters on the plastic side in order to increase the attack, but the real trick is to lower the tuning which gives you the higher pitched "attack" of the kick drum, without using the hard plastic surface that can wear away at the head and which IMO doesn't really sound quite as good. But yeah, pretty good. I remember looking at getting a superstar as my first kit but I thought the used starclassic was too good to pass up really
Used to play with a drummer who had a 24, massive ride cymbals are the best!
If I could have afforded a 24" ride I would have got one lol.
 2. I started out on the guitar at the end of '04 when, in year 9, we were asked to do some "band" thing for music class. It never actually happened or anything, but being in that room with a couple of mates playing the guitar inspired me to pick it up. I picked up the bass more out of necessity rather than that I really wanted to, although I did come to very much enjoy it. We couldn't really find someone to play the bass for the band I was doing at the time, so I decided to pick it up. That was just after my 14th birthday. For the next couple of years I was in a sort of "band" with some of my friends. It was a female fronted gothic type jobbie but it ended up being more talk than practice unfortunately. In '07 I finally managed to get a band together where I played the bass and we had a drummer and singer and everything(!) I played the only gigs I've ever done in march, one was in the school for comic relief and the other was at a local youth club in front of about 16 kids lol. Musical differences with the guitarist ended up with ME being booted out of the band just after the start of year 12 in about october that year (I asked him to be in the band!). I had always wanted to play the drums ever since I had picked up the bass really, in order to "complete the triangle" as it were of bass, guitar and drums. The problem was that I didn't want to go down the route of cheap, low quality beginner kit and thus didn't really have the funds to go through with it. So what I ended up doing was buying high quality hardware for my 16th birthday, plus some money I'd saved up and some money I got for getting half decent GCSE results (about £500 in total). Then christmas that year I got the drums and pretty much just gathered some cymbals over time. In 2008 I ended up being a drummer in a band with a guitarist I found, one of my best friends decided to pick up the bass in 2009 and we had a pretty good few practices over that year with us 3 but due to lack of singer and me feeling I wasn't doing very well on the drums, I ended up quitting. I also played the double bass for a small amount of time but I was never really into the formal method of learning. Then again, I was never really into formally learning anything in those days, maybe I should give it another go at some point in the near future.
 3. I started playing the guitar, I got my first electric guitar at age 13, christmas 2004. Then I got my first bass and started playing with the money from my 15th birthday in summer 2005, then (pretty much) got my first drumkit in christmas 2007, although I was "playing" the drums for a few months before using bits and pieces! I also can sing and I do a (very) small amount of keyboards. I've also been recording and producing songs since the end of 2005, does that count?
 4. Here is my guitar amp: Peavey ultra-X 112. 60 W, 3 channels (sort of). I've had this amp for over 6 years and can't really see myself changing it any time soon. If it 'aint broke, don't fix it and all that. If I did need it to be any louder I could always get an extension cab but I can't imagine I would.
 5. Here is pretty much the complete history of my guitars: First one was one of these, got it for christmas 7 years ago. Then, 6 months later, one of these. "A genuine les paul copy!" (I sold my XBOX to get this one lol): I've still got this one (or bits of it anyway) in my workshop out the back. Once I was done ruining this one, I got myself one of these: I ended up stuffing some clothes in this one to reduce the feedback lol. About a year later I sold this one to get me one of these: Dean Z '79. Great guitar for what I paid for it (about £220). I've still got this one, 5 years after I bought it (which for me, is pretty good lol). Here is another pic of EH with the pickups it has in it currently: Then I bought this Maverick X-1: That was gotten rid of in order to purchase this: ESP F400 FM, by far my favourite guitar I ever bought. WTF I sold it, I don't know. I had this guitar only for a couple of weeks, bought it from a friend, sold it to a bloke in Austrailia for a massive profit lol. Epiphone goth explorer. Finally, here is the 2nd guitar I still own. I built this myself from parts (you can tell can't you? lol) Plays like utter sh*te, sounds ok. And that is it for EH's guitars . I might buy another one sometime soon (although I am always saying that )
 6.
Is that a 22" ride? It looks huge.
Certainly is. PAISTE 2002 22" power ride. I don't really like wishy-washy rides
 7. Beat me to it!!!! Here is EH's DK: Tama starclassic, 10", 12", 14", 22", odd sizes I know but I would like to get a 16 at some point. The snare looks nice but it's a pile of crap. Also since I took this photo I got an 18" PAISTE sound reflections crash that looks and sounds epic
 8. I went for a practice with someone who ended up being in Sworn Amongst. I wouldn't have got the gig anyway I don't think but I f***ed it up for non musical reasons that I will not discuss at this time
 9.
either this: or that: just add my seibass to those. this is all I need.
That room is a timewarp! Sad bass amp though
 10.
I don't have one, I'm Gormless.
My name is Antony Gormless
 11.
Yeah Rich is right, this is a forum not somewhere to have a go. If people haven't got something constructive to say, then its prob best not to say anything!!
I suggested something for him to do, that is to start learning to transcribe songs by ear or buy the sheet music for it. Tell me though, how is your comment in any way being helpful or constructive?
I couldn't agree more and was actually surprised, given the number of posts EH has made, to read such a comment on here?
I am allowed to have an opinion aren't I? Seriously, what really used to piss me off when I was in a band was having the other 2 members constantly asking me to give them the tabs to all the songs we were doing. I used to just cut them a bit of slack though because they hadn't been playing very long. But seriously, if you're getting asked to play professional gigs like this, you should be past the stage of having to ask people for tabs. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, here. Just telling you what I think.
cut the guy some slack. He's explained the situation. Not a session guy or pretending to be one. Just doing someone a favour. I assume the guy who's asked him to stand in has some idea what he's getting. More importantly, he's asked for help, not a lecture. So if you cant help, move on to another thread.
Mate, I am trying to help. I'm just not going to sit here and spoonfeed someone with some tabs which in the long run is not really going to help this guy. "Give a guy a fish" and all that...
 12. I think if you're playing with the professionals you should be beyond the stage of asking people for tabs. Can't you get the sheet music for it? I would suggest that maybe now or sometime in the very near future is the time to start learning to transcribe by ear.
Here's the letter 'u' you missed: u Good luck with the gigs... I hope they go well.
I am going to go out on a limb here and say that he may possibly be American...
 13.
GAS for a WT550 and one more XLT or XST
That's a nice cab. I was thinking of getting one for myself to go with my metro combo, but I think I prefer the light weight of the markbass

you've already posted this pic...
 14.
That would be me. You have to remember that the strings are closer together and closer to the edge. To a greater or lesser degree it takes some getting used to. It's even more pronounced if you jump between a four and five. There is more variation in fives than there is in fours so be sure to play all you can to make sure you are happy.
Yep it's certainly true that the spacing is more narrow. 5 strings are typically 15-17 mm spacing as opposed to a jazz which is usually 20 mm I think.
+1 to that! I played a 5 for around 10 years or so - I have still got my Jazz Bass V (and would never sell it) - it was my first "proper" bass & has the Kubicki preamp (sounds great), I also had a Streamer Stage 1 and still have a Spector Legend 5 (though am considering moving this on). I have gone back to playing a 4 now as I found the 5 was making me quite lazy - as mentioned previously, playing in E, F or even G is easier (IMHO), but to my horror I was at a jam session and was asked to play, there was no 5 string available so when I got up to play and the guitarist said the song was in F - I really had to work hard to remember how to play in F on a 4!? I felt really self-conscious and that for me was the turning point! I'm still happy to pick up a 5 now - and can play that without thinking too much, but definitely prefer a 4 string. I really do believe going back to 4 has made me a more rounded player.
To be honest if "being lazy" is not making things unnecesserally hard for myself then I'm happy to be called that. I think it is good to be able to play both though, I've always been fine with playing a 4 or a 5 depending on what I'm doing.
 15.
(ps...did end up in Denmark Street and bought two more sets of bargain Trace Elliot strings for a £10!)
I remember buying a rotosound bass amp from them once. Lol jk. Yeah it is annoying. I mean who does he think he is going to fool? All that's going to happen is people are going to be pissed off and want their money back, thus wasting both parties' sets of time. Might as well just be honest, put it at a bit of a lower price and then at least he won't waste any of his own or anyone elses' time.

 17.
I don't know, they've got The Deep, and, err, um... ...do aluminium suppliers count as 'attractions'?
It depends how attracted you are to aluminium, which is probably not very much seeing as aluminium isn't magnetic...
 18. Here is my band, well sort of... www.facebook.com/pages/EddieHimself/221361233531
 19. Art of Dying - Sorry . (That's the name of the song, not that I am sorry that I am listening to it )
 20. I prefer guitar rig over amplitube and Studio Devil. Of course if you just want bass itself then the markbass does sound good. Glad to hear it has come down in price.
 21. Unless you can play a double bass and are willing to bring one to gigs, I would say that electric is probably better. The problem with acoustic bass guitars is that they are simply not loud enough to back up one acoustic guitar, let alone 2. You would need an amp to hear it, and then you have to ask yourself what is the point in buying an acoustic bass if you're going to use an amp anyway? You need to have a bass with a nice smooth sort of sound, like a jazz bass or something.
 22.
I was looking at getting one of those audio/USB things to plug my guitar in to the computer. Some come with basic amp sims and recording software and are not too expensive. But for a similar price I could get a new sound card with an audio input and bundled software. Which way would you guys go?
Get yourself an audio interface. USB is fine as long as you're not recording more than 4 tracks at once.
 23.
Mine too ! Jonas Hellborg on bass.
I must say I've only actually ever heard of Hellborg for the fact that he has his own line of bass amplification that costs a bomb and looks like some kind of posh kitchen appliance.
 24. Thanks for the replies pplz, I have thought about maybe getting more lessons but I'm not sure that it's really the problem. I mean I know what I need to learn, it's just an issue of being motivated I think.
Have you thought about why you spend so long on BC and questions like that? Sometimes i am totally lifeless and will likewise spend a whole day scrolling up and down on here.
I think you've pretty much answered your question. It's just because I've usually not got anything better to do. It's usually a case of either this or the sims. It's not all bad though, because I do listen to a lot of music whilst on the computer. Occasionally I may find some inspiration.
I uess good way to spend more time playing than reading forum is to have someone to play along with. Have you tried?
Most definetely. One of my friends comes around occasionaly and I tought him the basics of bass and guitar. I shoved some adverts up in a music shop when I first went to uni in Manchester (a city in the north west of england, which is quite well known for it's music). I got a couple of auditions here and there but nothing ever worked out. Part of the problem was that although music is prolific, most of it seems to be indie and pop rock bands. Nothing I was really interested in. I think the biggest problem is that I just struggle with people. I mean I remember I put an ad up on a website and got no replies, a friend puts another ad up on the same website and gets 5 in a week!
You really shouldn't be so worried about that! As Ray said, it's way better than watching dumb TV. Sure, you are a bit procrastinating, but, hell, you meet so many other procrastinators from all over UK and beyond! You are socializing, dammit! Enjoy it!
I seem to find it a lot easier to socialise with people on here than in real life. Whereas I could never really go up to someone and just start talking to them in real life, I am more than happy to enter into a conversation on here being spoken by people I've never met before. What is worrying is that sometimes this is my only source of socialisation. There were days last year just after I started uni when this was the only time I ever actually communicated with anyone, for the whole day. I must say I am getting less interested in watching TV. Especially since we stopped getting sky.
I'm on here a lot too.having said that, I can't do it at work, so instead of watching brain dead tv I browse here most evenings. I ve run out of inspiration again for about a year. Just recently got iPad to regain some inspiration. As for yo EH : I advise you to relax. Don't beat yourself up about your learning of songs. I also think that you could either see a teacher on a weekly basis if you can afford. Or you could get DVD not too advanced of your favourite bass players. Or you could leave the bass alone for a few weeks, and see if you miss it. Hope it works out
I think I'm a lot better than I used to be. A couple of years ago when I was in this band with my friends I was so angry about not being able to play the drums. I just couldn't stop thinking about it. I just wanted to pack the whole thing in. Now I just try to enjoy it more, but I still think it's frustrating that I just can't concentrate on not just music but anything. If I could just find something I could work at then I think I would feel a lot better.
Can you play bass too much? I think I do, I cant get enough. I love learning new things, and everytime I pick up my bass I feel amazing. Everytime. Sure, I've had off days, particulaly after recording sessions.Still I dont think I would have ever got to where I am with myself as a player and with my band. Some days when I wake up, I have to play the bass, usually because I didnt play the day before. Most weeks I play so much that I ruin the tips of my fingers.!!!! Bass is a big part of my life, and I honestly get upset a little if I cant play my bass through my rig. Most nights are spent playing through my headphones to tunes, and going over scales and just improvising to a drum track to help write new songs. God, I love bass. Merry Christmas aswell everyone!!!!.
I think it's a good thing if you're interested in something, at least it's constructive.
 25.
Final picture. Shiny jazz. Nice.
I don't know how come people seem to think it's a shiny bass but I can assure you it's about as shiny as a carpet lol.
