2. I'd totally forgotten about seeing this build thread! Yeah it's been a while. Looks awesome though.
 3.
This makes me cross. I hope you find people who realise that gender is irrelevant and manage to make some kickass music
+1. Are people really still that ignorant? Regardless of my light hearted remark if you did live nearer me then i would have no problem with you being a girl and a bass player. Doesn't bother me one bit. In fact i think it's great .
 4. Hmm female metal bass player. You sound like just the sort of person i need in my life. I mean band
 5.
It's not mine and I don't know if it got sold or what but this is sublime: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=765130
looks like it was widthdrawn from sale. I'm not surprised to be honest.
 6. That's a mighty fine looking markbass rig you got there gaf
 7.
Ah! It seems like the site is up and running! - Yes indeed I am! - not only have I a bunch of material here to be worked on with the guys - I have also been confronted by the man in his undies, so yes, I guess we've got to that level of 'the relationship'!!
The site is still not working for me though
 8.
Hark to Towler in Tottington, just north of Bury - it's a cracking little venue
ok well might take the metro down there at some point. Not promising anything though.
 9.
It did sound particularly good to my ears. (there is a house PA, but I stood right infront of it as well.) It's a bit better than the Ashdown MAG300 and Laney 2x10 we use for the jam night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers, Mick.
Where was the place? Anywhere decent?
 10.
Actually, I've been giving lessons to Chuck Norris in awesomeness He's got a little way to go yet, but I can see he's got potential!
That's impossible. If you and Chuck Norris were ever to meet then the sheer awesomeness would surpass it's critical mass and start a chain reaction of awesomeness that would destroy the universe! Plus I'm sorry but Chuck Norris CAN believe it's not butter, you can't compete with that i'm afraid
 11.
wheres the stolen bass thread?
erm...
Stolen bass thread is here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=107324 I wish you luck I had mine returned to me after 4 years, never give up.
12. Since we're posting "man rooms": unfortunately I'm nowhere near rich enough to afford posh things like "soundproofing". When i'm older i'm going to have a go at making a proper home studio that's for sure
 13.
To be fair mate, most practice rooms I've ever used are in abandoned looking warehouses and down dark, empty looking sidestreets - most builders round here would have no better clue where our practice rooms are than the butcher, the baker, or the candlestick man, unless they were musos themselves. Even the cabbies usually can't find them! If the lads don't want to give you a second chance after you got lost in a new city, that's a bit tight, but that kind of attitude ain't gonna help you any either. I'd make damn sure I knew where I was heading to for an audition, between A-Z's, Google maps, and smart-arsed smartphones, it's pretty hard to not find somewhere these days! Don't take it as a knock though, hope things work out better for you next time mate
I'm not knocking the practice place. Just saying that it is a slightly ridiculous thing to do considering it's not exactly the easiest place to find ever. I hate smartphones with a passion and yes i probably should have given it a bit of a harder look on google maps/the A-Z but i wrote down the directions I just didn't realise I was supposed to go past the station. Oh well better luck next time hopefully, if there is a next time. Not heard back from the other band in a few days...
 14. That spector is a beaut! I used to have a chair like that too
 15.
I have been using Mixcraft for a long time and it's a great program, is like a Garageband version for PC. Very easy to use. http://www.acoustica.com/mixcraft/
I tried mixcraft but couldn't really get on with it. The licensing is sh*te too.
 16.
Be careful with W/E and WE - W/E is generally accepted as meaning weekend, where WE usually means whatever! Doesn't always follow but still
I find it's all to do with context really. For example "have a good w/e" doesn't really say whatever.
LJBF Let’s Just Be Friends
I seriously hope no-one EVER breaks up with me like that certainly wouldn't think about being "friends" with them anymore! I just read through that whole post at the start of a 7 minute long iron maiden song and it finished just as i got to the end of it lol.
 17. Thanks again for all the comments guys. Really means a lot for me.
Back of the net! Great work. I wish I could get my stuff to sound a quarter as good as that. No, an eighth. Or a sixteenth. Nice one.
Thanks. It's not really the sort of thing you can just do overnight unless you've got a whole host of expensive software which unfortunately I don't have. It was weeks of meticulous editing to sort out all the little timing errors and other little mistakes that made it sound unprofessional. Yeah it's not "natural" or "organic" at any rate, but I wasn't going for that sort of sound and imo, the results speak for themselves . That's not to say I completely clinicalised it though. I did leave a bit of a margin of error for the timing (not massive though) and plus I left stuff like the bit before the second verse with the guitar in as well to make it a bit more sonically interesting. I'm writing lyrics to this song. They might not be to everyones taste just to warn you though and it probably won't be until christmas break that I'll actually be able to get it all recorded and that.
 18.
Certainly does surprise one how much a self build can actually cost. I'm currently slowly, and I stress slowly, building a BFM Jack10 - uh pay attention OP I know it's a cab but you know - and initially and naively I thought "this will come in well under £200, say £160". How wrong. It'll probably be around the £270ish mark. But like yourself silddx I want the best, so I've gone for the Baltic Birch ply as suggested which isn't cheap and I'll put the premium driver in. Just wish I had the time to get it finished quicker. As an aside, when we list down the cost of individual bits of a build why does it never look like it'll come out to as much as it actually does. Your list of parts for instance does look at first glance as if it would come out to over £1000. Looks like a quality job mate. Be chuffed you deserve to be.
I'm glad you're actually building something now after what you put in my bass build thread. It's a fun experience. I built a speaker cab too. It turned out pretty crap, mind but that's only because the teacher forced me to use completely the wrong sort of wood for the back lol.
 19.
Funny you should mention that - I've thought about suggesting it but was worried it would be a bit controversial. I've even wondered about programming my drum machine with a bass only beat and feeding it into the PA. Both might work and would also be a good way of being more consitent with the BPMs we actually play to.
I think a lot of metal bands do just this...
 20.
Most of the really good drummers I play with have some form of metronome ticking over in their ear... even at live gigs which means they're always tight and things don't drift. The good drummers I play with also don't change their drum bass rhythms. Fair enough, someof them make it complex/interesting, but it's consistent which is the important thing. As for drummer jokes... How do you know when the stage is level? The drummer drools from both sides of his mouth
I think if you practice along with a metronome enough you can get to the point where you don't need a click, unless you're playing with backing tracks or midi operated synths or sound/lighting effects live.
 21.
Oh c'mon guys. You absolutely do not need a kick drum in a drum kit! Latin music's done without it for decades. It's a monumentally useless, unnecessary drum.
very funny. I remember at one band practice I didn't bother playing the kick drum, just to see if anyone would notice. I actually don't think they did...
 22. Looks like it'll be cool. Keep us posted.
 23.
Tab is NOT sh*t, it's not as good as proper music notation, but I've happily learnt many hundreds of songs using it and by playing along to the track, it's a great start point. Now reading music is better and should be encouraged (I'm learning) but don't let the music snobs on here diss tabs, they have there place. BTW if it was me, looking at the 5 string tab I think It's going to be tough, one option would be to restring a spare bass BEAD for quick results as the G doesn't get used a lot. Other wise it's a retab job. Welcome on board!
The BIG issue I have with tab is when people write out incorrect tabs (either they're new to ear learning, or they just rushed through the tab without listening to the song properly because they wanted some UG brownie points ) and then dosens, hundreds or even thousands of guitar and bass players from across the world use the incorrect tab as an absolute reference for what they should be playing, without actually listening to see whether it's correct. I remember we were playing a song at band practice when we were looking for a bass player, and 3 people turned up and did EXACTLY the same mistake on the song and i mean like a seriously obvious error! They could have just spent 2 mins playing the bass along with the original recording at the right levels and it would have clearly come up that the tab was wrong and they would have corrected it! A case in point imo about how one person's mistake writing out the tab can have big repercussions if it becomes the "main" tab for the song on a site like UG for example. As I say though, I'm still forced to write out tabs for people in my band(s) because they are unable/unwilling to learn songs by ear. Which is quite annoying.
 24.
Tab is sh*t. You need to learn to read standard music notation. Sorry I can not help further
Or even learn it by ear . I actually learn stuff by ear so I can write tabs for it on tuxguitar that I send to my friends so they can learn the song!
I agree tab is not great, but if you dont have the time or the ear to learn it from the record, it can save a little time So assuming the 5 string instruction you have is anywhere near correct, then at least it gives you the notes on the string you don't have and could rearrange them to suit your bass Hope that makes sense
+1. This is what i'd do.
