1. Oh yeah axesrus are my first stop when it comes to anything guitar or bass parts related, just got an order from them yesterday in fact for an MM copy bucker and a couple of other parts. It's pretty cool that they should be literally round the corner from me in hull too.
 2. I've always thought WD music was quite expensive (apart from the pickups) but i've not realised until now how much of a rip-off they actually are until now. Take a look at this: http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/product/BLANK_CLE...5_1|2%22_GB-745 £30 for a small sheet of acrylic! I could go down to focus or B&Q and they'd probably give me a good few foot for that sort of money!
 3. Hi guys my bass has suddenly become all sandbergish: The pickup was only like £20 but i think it sounds really excellent. I'll try to get some recordings up. Also anyone notice anything? Yeah, i actually realised i didn't need a new neck after all! XD Ahh well, what a nice excuse to build another bass!
 4.
Do you play slap? Is there any way people might think you play slap? Does your demo include slap? This may be the reason.
slap? Me? Certainly not! No i don't think i'm applying to the wrong type of bands, they're my sort of music.
 5. one useful thing about the crapped out neck is that i can use it as a practise to shape the headstock. I want the bass to look a bit less "fenderish". So i've drawn on a shape then GIMPed it to see what it will look like. Obviously this headstock shape is slightly different than the other neck but it doesn't really matter because the part where it differs is pretty much going to be cut away anyway. The shape is not exactly what it will be, just a quick mockup to give an idea of what it'd look like. I guess it looks quite like an ibanez guitar sort of headstock, which is quite nice but i might want to make it a bit more unique sort of looking.
 6.
It seems to me that the problem doesn't lie on your side, but theirs. I don't know what this is, but too many auditionees maybe, they've already found the right guy? I don't know but I wouldn't be harsh on yourself.
I think that's probably it. Which i find amazing because we can't find anyone!
 7.
I have a suggestion: paste in an example of the kind of responses that you send to these bands. Then we can tell you if you're doing anything wrong. S.P.
I would have done but the band i just got rejected from deleted their blog so next time i'll try posting something.
 8.
From what your saying it sounds like people are casually asking you to be in a band with them but then not following through either it some signal your giving out which puts them off or more likely your not being proactive enough. If it happens again try to make a definate date for a jam and see how that goes. But please dont make the mistake that I made and join the first band that will have you take some perspective and see if its right for you because if its not it can be really demotivating
Yeah maybe i should. I reckon i should probably put a couple more ads up in music shops for our band for a start, perhaps we'll get more interest being a nearly complete band?
Maybe you're a git? Seriously, tho. Is there something about your approach that undermines your credibility as a potential band member? Do you have any demos of your stuff that you can play people to get past any prejudices? Are you under-selling yourself or over-selling (streching credibility, coming over as arrogant etc)? Hell, you may be too short for some people, too ugly, too whatever (I lost out at an audition once because I was too tall! Absolutely true!! Apparently the bandleader was 5' 2'' and didn't want attention drawn to that fact by surrounding himself with tall blokes). It may be worth thinking about how you approach people for an audition and considering whether there is something that you can change.
I have loads of recordings of myself and i've offered to send it to them but usually they don't give me an email or anything. As for being too short, well hell i'm 5' 9" so i don't really think anybody could possibly say i was too short or too tall lol. I don't like to think i'm under or overselling myself, i just give them the facts. I wouldn't say i was arrogant, maybe sometimes but i try not to be when i'm on the internet, just try to appear balanced between being friendly and professional. I always like to analyse things in my mind, i'll try having a look next time.
 9.
Form your own band! That's how I got round it...
Yeah i've got a band with my mates it's just that we can't get round to doing anything fun like gigs or out until we find a singer but no-one seems interested. Also i'm doing the drums, i wouldn't mind having a go on bass again seeing as i've just spent an inordinate amount of money on bass parts for my new bass.
 10.
Hell of a lot of time wasters up here in the North East mate.
Auditionees or bands? Because yeah if it's the former i see what you mean, there was a bloke who replied to another band's blog who were looking for a drummer (in hull) and he's just like "oh yeah i'm 18 i play drums but i live in doncaster i don't have a car though so would you guys mind coming down here to jam?"
 11. "I knew i shouldn't have bought that bloody snow lepoard for my mac!"
 12. hi guys i've asked to be in so many bands over the years and i wouldn't have minded not getting in if they'd at least heard me but not one of them has even asked me to go down for an audition. The last time (and only time) i even went to an audition was in 2006. So, is there something wrong with me?
 13. Please no! That's just too nice.
 14.
Well, no. It's a bit off.
I didn't think it was that bad but really i suppose if we're being picky he is supposed to be like perfect.
 15.
The 13-pin hexaphonic transducer systems (Axon/Yamaha/Roland/Graphtech) convert the bass guitars pitch into midi, via whichever guitar synth module you use, so the electrics will work (as badly) on a fretless as it does on a fretted instrument. That said, the Roland midi conversion relies on a pitch being sent to it, which it then approximates to the nearest note, but this effectively is limited to notes (intervals) within the 12 tone Equal Temperament/12tet fretted range, which are ratios of 440Hz, not specific notes within the octave, whereas, with a fretless, you have the potential to trigger a note that is closer to the actual true note that the system requires , but this is dependent on your own intonation - an inaccurate player may well trigger a microtone (rather than the desired tone) which may confuse the Roland's tracking system, and cause "ghost notes" or false triggers.
okay. It's just i remember reading about a midi guitar ages ago where the notes were triggered using the frets but i suppose it would be different nowdays as it was like an 80s guitar lol.
 16. hang on- how does the midi work if it's fretless? Or am i just missing something.
 17.
I dunno if you're a fan, but Carcass and Trivium use a lot of standard B tuning. It's also pretty easy to transcribe Machine Head songs like Halo into B standard.
I was going to say MH. It's actually quite easy i think to play songs that are normally in drop B and have them in standard. It seems weird at first but it can be quite advantegous as it means you can stay in one position easier. Really since you're (usually) playing single notes rather than powerchords, there isn't really many songs where drop tuning is THAT much easier than just standard on a 5. Songs in drop C on the guitar can be a bit of a bummer though as you're using the 1st fret of the B a lot of the time which hurts your fretting finger if your not used to it.
 18.
( the eqivalent of my amp goes up to 11....!).
although 25 frets actually makes a difference!
 19.
thanks - how noisy are they? i know theyre rwrp wound but i mean when at differing volumes? also are the wizards slightly different sizes? Kent mentions this and gives dimensions thanks
That's just standard sort of jazz affair, the bridge pickups are always longer to compensate for the slightly larger string spacing in that position.
 20.
Sarcasm detector broken again?
What are you trying to say about me, friend?
 21.
You'd think that if all those bands were so famous and successful, they'd be able to afford proper instruments.
you saying a PRS is not a proper instrument?
 22. It's quite amazing how this is possibly the biggest growing thread i ever started, i suppose it shows how interesting i am, or what i have to say is.
 23.
Sorry mate, but who?
presumably you missed the original post. Never mind, it's just stupid.
 24.
I'd like a bass with a mobile/laptop style battery + charger. i.e. You can plug it in to the mains to charge rather than have to change/buy those square things. Contemplated trying to do a mod for this myself actually. Probably wouldn't be too hard.
"those square things" being 9v batteries presumably?
