1. I've heard little else but good about kent armstrong pickups, they're certainly good value for money imo.
 2.
Care to explain?
Well i just thought it was funny the way he's usually a drummer and he basically murdered a bass doing a slap solo lol.
 3.
Misery Business by Paramore goes well on a 5. It's originally in something bizarre like dropped C# on a 4 string
So bizarre it's used by many a band such as alice in chains, funeral for a friend etc...
 4. Loadsa bands play 5 string, for a start all the new metal stuff like limp bizkit, korn etc... You could also have a go at playing songs that are in drop D, Db or C on a 5 string in standard, it can be a bit of a challenge.
 5. well according to the bloke off drummerworld, he was a drumer or something. Ahh whatever.
 6. For wasting everybodies' time. I'll get my coat.
 7.

what's that stringless wonder on the right?
 8. Well that works rather good, probably need to tweak it a bit more but it's sounding pretty good so far. I had to install sonar 32 bit to get it to work though, now i have both!
 9.
When I don't want to fire up the ENGL I use a couple of VSTs in Cubase. I mainly use this one: http://sites.google.com/site/nickcrowlab/ That emulates the preamp and poweramp and then I run Voxengo Boogex next in the chain which is a cab simulation. http://catharsis.supremepixels.com/impulses/ <- I usually use those impulses It's a 100% free and it sounds surprisingly good, here's a little clip of some Opeth http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/867382/Full.mp3
that sounds amazing, ima look into that.
 10. doesn't posting about pming sort of contradict the point of a PM in the first place? Well whatever, that's a really lovely bass, i love jazz style basses with maple fretboards. Also liking the Peanut Butter and Jelly rig behind too
 11.
I think line 6 in general, really. :/ Just really don't understand it unless you want a very digitally sounding constant chorus or overdrive to use in black death metal.
you can really tell how those modeling amps or anything like that just sounds so digital when you hear it.
 12.
Thats true but what I would play through....?
Well i mean the bass is going to end up going through the PA anyway. Get some headphones or something.
 13.
This is my cheap and cheerful 'practice' rig 2 x 18" Bass Bins 2 x 15" Full Range Cabs W-Audio 500 watt 1 unit power amp Laptop with a Line 6 GX USB interface running Pod Farm and Riff Works along with Acid etc... Certainly shifts some air Unfortunately its a bit of an overkill , and I keep thinking of playing live again but just don't have the time and Mrs Prosebass has read me the riot act (again) so it looks like I will be selling the cabs...
well if you do play live again at least you have the band's PA sorted!
 14. Sounds evil, is that a good thing or a bad thing?
 15.
But the last time I checked most Drummers like the mids as a whole.
Dunno if that's entirely true. Whenever you record a drum kit for a "metal" sound at least you basically have to take the recording and scoop the mids to make it sound better.
 16.
Hi Kev, Covering 100% of the requirements is not strictly necessary. I would more than pleased to have a recording engineer in [sfx] labs. To be a good recording engineer it is not necessary have been playing in band for example.
funny because that's not what you told me.
 17. The thing about his tone i think is that it's very difficult to hear the bass over those guitars. That's why many metal bass players use high amounts of treble to hear it over the guitars and stuff. It could use a bit more mids so you don't have to guess what note he is playing though. I can't really suggest anything to get the tone apart from the fact that the bass is pretty important, my mate actually wanted to get that sort of tone from an epiphone EB-0. No chance! Your best bet is a 5 string bass with an active equaliser so you can ramp up the treble. An amp with a tweeter would be good too.
 18. Nice crocs! And the bass is alright too
 19.
Thats a lot of in's and out's!!! What kind of system/desk you running on that? G
Indeed! Can't wait to see what it looks like.
 20.
I would say 300W to be comfortable but I have got away with 150W. Now I have 1350W to be sure If you're low on cash look for a second hand Peavey TNT bomb proof.
+1 on used peavey gear, just go on ebay and find the most powerful bass amp in your price range. That should do it. As for being in a band in uni, i'm just now getting into my first "proper" band really and i'm about to start uni too. My mate preston who plays the bass (and is on here occasionaly too) is off to the same uni as me and the guitar player is in the year below us so it should be good. I might try and have a go at getting into another band with people i'll meet at uni too, or adding to the current one as we have a distinct lack of a singer and 2nd guitar player. Wish me luck
 21. Basses: MM stingray 5 string black + gold, Peavey Cirrus 6 string flame maple in a bitchin' colour like green or something and an ESP 4 string bass. Amps: it would have to be an SWR 1500 and Mesa boogie 400+ valve amp as well depending on what mood i'm in Cabs: SWR 8x10s and maybe that big bertha 2x18 that they used to make just for the fun of it! FX: Some boutique valve distortion that sounds amazing.
 22. i like the contrast of the black pickguard so i voted for that one. The white looks nice too though
