1. nice 1 mate, i love my dean Z although it's one of those other fretted instruments that we're not allowed to talk about on here. I know what you mean about it's size though man, i mean the case it came with is the size of a bass case! I wouldn't mind 24 frets though.
2.
They're British, so I can understand that maybe they haven't made much of a name for themselves in the US.
are they? Well i've tried a couple of their guitar pickups and yeah i like them, the meaty tone you get from the 20k is pretty impressive but really i've found i prefer active pickups since they're a bit tighter sounding. That's not to say they're bad pickups i think they're pretty good in fact worth the price no doubt.
3. i don't usually come on this forum (ahem) but that is a very nice bass. Does the flat back affect the way you hold it whilst you're playing much?
4. i like it, looks good. Yeah coke does make a good cleaning agent.
5.
Heavy enough strings will straighten that neck out.
probably yeah.
6.
thatz a gud read. Didnt now players used more than 1 bass!
Sorry but really? I think you're having us on mate.
7.
I'm not an experienced sprayer so simple would be best ! Car colours are a good source of inspiration, i'm not sure if bright yellow would be a bit much on a fretless bass though ! Lime green would be the same, it'd look cool but I wouldn't want to own it. I'm thinking about a metallic gold/copper at the moment, a bit like this: or
The orange looks quite good i suppose, i think however the bottom colour is best left on the corvette imo.
8.
If you plan on detuning any, lights definitely won't cut it.
It's a 5 string bass so i doubt that'll be too much of a problem for TS.
9.
I suspect the sheer increase in the amount of steel flying through those magnetic fields meant I got a fatter tone (bliss - a Trace Elliot V4 combo, wicked sounding amp) which was nice.
This is pretty much true. The bigger surface area of the strings means you get more volume, but you have to put more energy in to get that extra volume. Also more low end is produced because of like the inertia and how that affects the ability to produce various frequencies of standing waves and all that sort of stuff.
10. yeah he's pretty well known in bass circles i think for his songwriting and that. Wasn't he on here at some point too?
11. No there is nothing wrong with using light strings. Anybody who tells you otherwise is imo pretty sad. It shouldn't be about what other people thing of what you're playing, it should be about what you want to play? I say try out a set, see if you like the sound and feel. If not, then go back to normal strings or maybe try medium light strings instead.
12. nice work mate what i think is good is that the oversized cover on the old epi massive soapbar thingies is that they would hide the routing which is good becuase it means you don't have to re paint it like you would with an "ordinary" bass pickup if you see what i mean. haha i said that guy here should do this on his bass, you don't have to though guy i mean it's your bass but maybe it'd be a bit of fun if we ever got bored sometime lol. Do you think this is a big improvement on sound then or anything TS? Also i had you down for a middle aged dad sort of guy, i suppose it's because most of the people on here are lol.
13.
Purple? Actually no, that's a bad idea. A terrible one even. Nobody in their right mind would have a purple bass. In fact, you'd have to be an utterly barking hatstand johnny-no-mates to even contemplate a purple [s]7-string[/s] errm, [s]headless 6-string[/s] bass.
My bass is purple
14. what other colours are there? Yellow? Green? White? I think that's pretty much it unless you want something like stained.
15. I gave double bass a go a long time ago. Never really got into learning it though really. It's a nice thing to play, maybe i'll take it up again someday .
16.
Is that a wall hanger attached to a wardrobe?
certainly is mate, you got a problem with that?
that is one seriously relic'd jazz bass.
haha check out my build thread mate! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=40293
17. Hey there nice setup, i guess it's more "lean" now that you've got rid of all the basses you don't need and just have 2 now.
18.
For what its worth, I had a similar problem with one of my basses- one of my local guitar shops replaced the truss rod nut for a tenner and its worked beautifully ever since. It may not work with all rods but might be worth checking if you want to keep playing it?
maybe one day but it was a cheap neck, really i'm glad i'm gonna be getting a nice neck to put on it. Not tried a maple fretboard either so it'll be interesting to see how it is and that. The other big thing that happened with this bass was one day i was unplugging it and the input jack nut thing actually got stuck on the jack plug! I actually had to buy a new jack plug and solder it on to get my cable working again and i'll have to get a new input jack for the bass. Probably a good excuse to get a couple of pots too.
19. oh and speaking of "ikea hacking" sick of trying to attach wall mounts to the bloody wall(!) and i had a few chipboard screws left over from the desk build so...
20. haha sod ikea guys, i just built my own desk (with a load of 19" rack units) out of some MDF, chipboard and plywood!!! a couple more updated shots as well to show off my *ahem* "extensive" rackmounted fx selection. (actually i don't have any rackmounted FX it's just a soundcard and a bass amp lol) all in all it was about £35. My mum and dad were a bit annoyed about having to pay for the materials, until i showed them a desk with a similar amount of rack units that was £365 lol.
21. That's great. I love les paul style basses like the ESP EC bass, very nice indeed. I guess that's probably why the back countouring looks weird, because we're probably just used to the les paul shape being slab sided at the back.
22. well guys here's another update. Due to "problems" i had with the truss rod, the neck was rendered pretty much unusable. Yes, it really is that bent. The trouble was that the truss rod got tightened so much by some idiot (who knows who that might be eh?) that the threading actually came off the hex key thingy. I really f***ed this one up tbh, i feel that i've really learned from this, i've sorted out the problems i was having with this and now the necks on my working guitars are straight as a die which is nice so i won't ever be doing this again. Speaking of which, the yellow box funnily enough is actually a set of 30 allen wrenches lol. I decided on getting a nice maple fretboarded neck to replace it which i promise i won't bugger up. The reason it's taken a while is because i lent it to my mate guy who only brought it back round thursday night lol.
23. fender JAZZ bass copy guy JAZZ bass copy!!!
24. Okay it's pretty simple. If it's a solid state power stage then you can plug the amp into a speaker different than the rated impedance (or impedance range) of the amp, however it won't be as loud and it'll reduce the life span of the amp. The way to work out impedances is pretty simple really: For paralell curcits (which is what it'll be from the amp to the cab, it usually is) then 1/total impedance= 1/cab 1 impedance + 1/cab 2 impedance etc.... So if you have 2 8 ohm cabs, the total impedance will be 1/8 + 1/8= 1/4 so the total impedance is 4 ohms.
25.
Drop-D is only good for one thing.... KILLING IN THE NAME!
That's a pretty decent song. Sometimes i just play it in standard on my 5 though
