Have you tried soloing the front pickup on the trbx and then comparing with the p-bass? It might just seem like the effects are having less effect because of the natural mid-scoop of a 2 pickup bass when the pickups are at an equal mix. The presence of a preamp, if set flat shouldn't be an issue.

Boss gt core has both adjustable hpf and lpf on the reverb (and other) algorithms. Also the Source Audio Ventris has this facility on most of the algorithms. Not tried mine on bass though.

I have a Laney Blackheath that can do that. I have recently acquired a Boss GT core (which is great), but have the Blackheath in one of the loops as it's that good for that clean/dirty sound without the "darkglass" separated type effect.

Also, that £90 bass in 1980, is (inflation linked) a £360 bass now - basically a Squier CV, which in most people's mind, mine included, is very much a genuinely good quality gig-able instrument.

Sorry, I mean in the whole bass lineup, the prestige basses used to have the wenge/bubinga necks. Probably getting too expensive or scarce now.
-
No more wenge necks in the lineup. That was always the main attraction for me.

Think it might be names after the West Midlands area rather than the place near Greenwich, given Laneys roots!
-
Well, it works great with my Laney nexus head (and cabs). Also tried it with all my basses now, and can say it let's each instruments' character through - from actives of the EMG equipped Pbass and Warwick through to the big humbuckers of the Sandberg and the Bart equipped Conklin.

Bought this a coup of weeks ago as a B-stock item. It offers loads control for a compact pedal. The 3 drive types are quite distinct, I really like Dist 2 (the more tube like mode) on a moderate setting. The range in the gain control along with the colour and range controls mean you can go from a clean boost to pretty much a "big muff" style dist/fuzz. Speaking of the colour control, the manual suggests its a normal "tone knob", but it seemed to act like a tilt control to my ears, which was confirmed by an email from Laney support, apparently similar to the tilt contol on the (Digbeth)? amp. Light drives are particularly good as you can dial in a tone that just adds hair around the note without changing the basic tone. I thought I would miss the clean blend I have on other overdrives and distortions, but it's completely unnecessary on this pedal - it doesn't lose any bass at all, unless you set the controls to cut it out pre and post drive.

No problem Geoff. The Artec comes with 500/250k pots as standard which are fine for passive pickups. Active pickups generally have a lower output impedance and benefit from 25k pots. This keeps the blending of pickups gradual and smooth, not a on/off/both effect. If you are using passive pickups, just wire in as supplied. I still intend to put some sound clips of mine up soon.

I've had a gt7 for a few years now. Great basses. Had similar frustrations with the electronics. Have changed the pre to an Artec 3 band with sweepable mids, opened up the sound no end. Still debating putting an acg filter in at some point. The pickups are fine imo and very hot once rid of the stock preamp. Also had to change blend pot on artec to a 25k. Hope you get the bass sounding how you like. Pete.

Yep! Originally from Wirral, now residing in Liverpool (Walton). Welcome.

Always had Ibanez's, got two guitars by them at the mo, an SZ fitted with Bare Knuckles & an Artcore Custom. My first bass was a GIO 4 string, also had a RD605 which a sold on this very forum and now I've just purchased this '93 SR1306PD (also over in bass porn) I also have use of this old girl (its my girlfriends) silver series precision from '77. just a touch "road-worn" Some of the best instruments ive had the pleasure of playing, esp for the prices.

Hi all. Just snagged this off Ebay for the princely sum of £270! It's a '93 SR1306PD (catchy name eh?) Padouk body, wenge/bubinga neck, active stacked J's, vari-mid preamp. Sounds very Warwick. Makes a nice tonal contrast to my Conklin too.

As already mentioned, Dawsons, Dolphin & Curly's. All within 100m of each other and Central station. Outside of town center there is Micro music on Smithdown rd & Frets nr Aintree race course. Pete

Dare to be different! I'm in an indie band and use a jazz, a 7-string Conklin & a fretless six! If image matters more, take up modeling Seriously though, the ATK is a fab bass, try one and compare it with a p & jazz, (and whatever else you can) & see what floats the boat.

swamp ash warwick Doh! beaten to it.

As already stated, it's not down to which country the bass is made in, but the attitude of the company that makes it. Try out a top line Cort, Ibanez prestige, Lakland Skyline, G&L trib etc. All as well put together as any production line instrument from US/Europe. There are manufacturers, ie Fender, who as previously stated, keep some features & options only on their US builds though.

I've always fancied HH basses, as long as the "bridge" 'bucker is in the correct place.

Hi, I did have that bass, sold it on here to a guy just up the road in Liverpool. I remember taking the pickups out to check myself, the model numbers are stamped on the baseplate. They were SMB 5a & SJ5-67/70 Both alnico magnets. I thought they sounded great, but the preamp wasnt the greatest though.

Ibanez SR506BM (Pretty six String) Is it good?
tempo replied to JamieBenzies's topic in Bass Guitars
IMO the best 6 string out there for that sort of cash. The only other I would consider (at that price) would be another Ibby, the BTB676 -
If your after valve power stage grind, then your gonna have to be turning up pretty loud to get it, which may or may not ruin the mix of the band. If your looking for some dirt from the preamp, then you might as well use an outboard pre/drive unit with your current gear. Do you use a PA for bass in the majority of your gigs?
