New for 2009: Genz Benz Shuttle Max 12.0 , Max 6.0 and more...
cgordonfreeman replied to cetera's topic in Amps and Cabs
Looking forward to hearing your review of this amp in action!
I've only been using this amp properly in the last few weeks and i must say i'm very impressed with it. I bought it sight unseen from the states without ever hearing Genz Benz stuff before (I don't think we even have a dealer over here). I bought it to replace my ancient Peavey Mark VIII and my EBS Fafner and it does the job very well. So far i've only tested through my 8ohm Avatar 4x10 but the volume I can get is impressive. The solid state channel is very clean and quite warm and you can get a bit of edge if you use the hi-gain switch. The tube channel sounds nice and warm with low gain and with the right EQ on the hi-gain setting you can get some pretty beefy distortion. It's very handy that you can control the volume of the channels individually so you can go from super clean to all out grind with a tap of the footswitch. All in all great head so far but I haven't gigged with it yet so time will tell. Any questions, feel free to ask. Cheers, John. -

For trade feeler: Valenti #11 5-String
cgordonfreeman replied to cgordonfreeman's topic in Basses For Sale
Looks like a great bass with excellent electronics! Looking at the Talkbass forums, Valenti has a pretty good reputation too.. But what does it actually sound like?
It sounds pretty much like a Jazz but a bit beefier. You can add a huge amount of low end or top end sheen with the Aguilar or you can just go passive by pulling the volume pot. You can get an approximation of a P-bass too by messing around with the coil taps. All in all, it's quite versatile but I've a Bongo 5HH and a Carvin 5er. Any interest? Cheers, John. -

Up for trade is my Valenti #11 5 stringer i bought from tayste some time last year. Looking for a nice guitar for it or maybe a bass. I'm in ireland by the way. Alder P style Body Pau Ferro Fretboard Sherwood Green Finish w/Matching H/S Nordstrand Dual Coil pickups 24 Frets, 19mm string spacing Black Hardware HipShot B style bridge UltraLite tuning gears Humbucker/Single coil mode for each pickup Tortoise P/G Aguilar OBP-1 (bass/treble boost only) Contoured heel for easier access to the upper frets Very good condition, just a small chip on the back that only goes through the top coat of paint (not through to wood) and a bit of rust on the saddle screws on the bridge. Not a very light bass but not too heavy either. I'd estimate maybe 10lbs. Comes with a Stagg soft hardcase. Might take trades on another nice 5-string or maybe even a nice guitar, try me. Cheers, John.

Just bought a lovely ESH from Barrie and he's a great man to deal with. Always quick to communicate and answer any and all questions. He also gave me a great deal on a case and a few packs of strings. Great guy.

Here's my contribution, a 04 White Bongo 5HH. Rare as hens teeth according to folk on the MM forums. photobucket.com/cgordonfreemanbongo
Open letter to many current amp designers: Please make them look nicer. That is all. Signed, Grumpy, Geordie Delta
You can't really fault Genz Benz for the look of the amp due to how much they've crammed into such a small form factor. -

Just took delivery of the shuttle max 12.0 yesterday. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet. First impressions are that it's incredibly light, all the switchgear feels solid and even though there's so many knobs etc on it, it's quite a clean and uncluttered. I would have tested it last night but i went into a shop yesterday to buy a couple of speakon cables and the 2 assistants were like 'what are speakon cables?' so I'll have to track some down today. Cheers, John -
It's a nice amp for sure! Why does it need to be serviced?
There's just annoying hum/buzz coming from it and the sound seems to break up kinda easily and I'm too lazy to bring it to an amp tech. I don't use it either an it just sits in my room. Plus I have a Shuttle MAX 12.0 on the way in february. -

Bought a Valenti off Steve a few months ago on TalkBass. It was well packed and as described. Cheers Steve! Could you leave me some feedback too please? Thanks, John.

Simon just sold me a Carvin LB75 and everything went smoothly. The bass arrived well packed and in great condition, just how he described. He was very good at keeping communication throughout the transaction and even shipped the bass before full payment had been received! Great to deal with. John.
