  1. If the cabs you're listening to don't do enough low end, you've got to start listening to the cabs that do. They are out there and there is a great selection.
  2. Which head? The 800 Pure looks interesting. Does anyone on BC use one? I use very little EQ from the preamp, just the amps baked in sound, so I'm wondering if my basses will sound good with no EQ at all.
  3. Older Trace stuff is. . . . . well, old! Age has it's own effects on electrical components. The last failure I had was an all valve amp in 1999. Not so much as a sniffle with any SS and D class amps since.
  4. My guess is that a BT2 isn't the cab to use in a punk band. My first Barefaced cab was a BB2. The difference between it and my previous cabs was a shock (mostly the amount of bass response) and I spent all my time trying to tame the bass. I emailed Alex and his reply was, "Why did you buy one of those? I'd have recommended a Super Compact!" I bought the SC and that was it. "My" sound. So buying the right cab is the first lesson. The second lesson is that a new cab won't sound like your old cab. Never does. I have recalibrated my ears and now I have a BB2 that I am happy with. There isn't any boom, but there is way more bass than with many cabs. I don't see that as a down side. If it's too much then Alex has more appropriate cabs available.
  5. What's wrong with the preamp in your amp?
  6. Are both these cabs 8 ohms? Your Orange amp goes down to 4 ohms. That means both cabs have to be 8 ohms. The 115 is 8 ohms, but the only Eden Nemesis 410 I can find is 4 ohms. If that is correct then your cabs combine to be 2.67ohms and that is a mismatch to the amp. Which might be why it's overheating and cutting out. You can either run the 410 on its own or run the 115 with another 8 ohm cab, or you can buy an amp which goes to 2.67 ohms. ps You won't get 1000 watts out of the Eich. That's rated at 1000 watts bridged into 4 ohms, which might be too much for your 410. It has 2 x 500 watt channels so you might be able to plug each cab into its own channel. But this is just shy of £1200. That's not a financially sensible solution to your problem. There are plenty of amps that go to 2.67 ohms for a lot less than £1200. I'd just get another 8 ohm cab.
  7. I've just been on the BD site and there was no alarm bells or sirens when I logged on.
  8. Is the OBP3 9v or 18v?
  9. I usually know if I'm going to like a bass or not when I play it unplugged. IMO the best sounding basses have always been the ones that felt good when you picked them up.
  10. No. If I play a bass that sounds substantially better than my current bass I'd buy it.
  11. I thought Love Me Do was drummed by Andy White with Ringo on tambourine. IMO Ringo was a very good drummer. He changed the way drums could be played. Listen to all the drummers in the beat groups at the time, they were all playing bog-standard patterns. Ringo started to make his patterns more creative, and, probably helped by the others, came up with some great, different and original drumming.
  12. Just listened to it. Sounds pretty good to me and I'm a Beatles fan. IMO it's a great song.
  13. Thanks for the info.
  14. What is the string spacing at the bridge?
  15. Is the singer asking for more monitors because the guitarist is too loud? I know a guitarist actually turning down is the ninth wonder of the world, so maybe turn his amp away from the singer.
  16. The cabs were Bergantino AE112's and the amp was an 800 watt Thunderfunk. I used 1 with an acoustic guitarist, 2 with my cover bands and 3 with a very loud blues rock trio. I liked the idea that every cab was a backup to the others. In the end I replace the Bergs with 2 Barefaced Super Compact 112's. Loud and great tone in a very light weight box. These days my go-to amp is an Aguilar AG700, but the Thunderfunk still gets a gig now and then.
  17. Do these apps do chord charts?
  18. Very interesting. If I was spec'ing this I'd have probably gone for the Kubicki headless approach.
  19. IMO if you need to go light then a modular, building blocks approach to a rig is best way. I've done this for the last 10 years. My main rigs have been 1, 2, or 3 112's. I even had a 212 and 112, but that was a little too heavy. I believe GK Legacy heads go down to 2 ohms so you can use any combination of cabs. My Ampeg 410 weighed 90lbs. No one needs to carry that much weight anymore. I've tried 210's but they are heavier and the 112's on the market these days are very, very good and have no down sides.
  20. Obviously an opportunistic attempt to get some cash.
  21. I saw The Stones at the O2 and the whole evening was anchored by Charlie's drumming. He never missed a beat and underpinned the band in a simple, effective and fantastic way.
  22. Depends why you are going for lightweight cabs. IMO if you have a "problem" why would you carry two cabs at the same time? I have a bad back and usually gig 2 112 cabs. I never carry both, because that is twice the weight of carrying one. The number of trips to the car are irrelevant. Why would I want to lift more than the least weight for each trip? I would always go for multiple 112's or 210's and build up the rig from there. Yes, it's more expensive, but each lift is better, which is the whole point if you have to go light for a physical reason.
  23. Beautiful bass. I'm very jealous.
