Like it. The "rough edges" compliment the feel of the song.

Yep. I guess my preferred bass sound was "imprinted" way before Music Man came about. The SR5 was a good bass to start my 5 string conversion. It took a few years, but in the end I decided I preferred wider string spacing, single coil pickups and the unrolled fretboard had begun to bug me.

The bass is loud. Maybe too loud for some but it doesn't bother me. I'd try a mix taking the other bass lines out. IMO you don't need them and an emptier sound might be more interesting. Also maybe add a little more low mid to the bass line. Some of the notes drift in the bar but the first beat is always spot on. Did you adjust the timing on the first beat? I like the drums, maybe add some hi-hat.

Play for free, it's good exposure...BBC content
chris_b replied to yorks5stringer's topic in General Discussion
The only problem with that is, as soon as the advertisers are the driving force, the quality of programs takes a serious dive. I have no problem with the licence or the programs the BBC puts out. Anything that divorces the program makers from commercial considerations is a good thing in my book. Is this non-payment a new thing? I always got paid by the BBC, but that was rather a long time ago. -
Apart from a cover for my BB2, all I’ve bought since March is food, paint and sandpaper.

My first 5 string bass was a Music Man Stingray 5. It was good but not as good as the Lakland that replaced it. These days there are many more choices for good first 5 string basses, like Sire, Squier and Lakland Skylines.

The answer is always, RTFM!!!!

I've seen a lot of enthusiasm for the tone of rosewood slab board Fenders, which is most/all basses made in and up to 1962. Apparently the fretboard is thicker and that makes them sound better.

I don't use pedals, but I hope this is a good move for the company.

If Warwick can get anywhere close to the business plan they will be producing very high quality basses at a very reasonable price. These have the potential to be very good value for money. . . . . and all you lot can whitter on about is the logo?!? Apparently Warwick sends someone over to the Chinese factory every couple of weeks to keep an eye on production and QC, but since Covid-19 haven't been able to. This might be having a knock on effect in the QC dept. Personally I'd rather not be supporting China's economic world domination, so I'll be sticking with my Japanese Metro.

I'm interested in these replies. I'm looking for new head phones, my existing (cheap Sony) ones are OK, but I think/ know I could do better. Sadly, these days it doesn't take much to exceed the capability of my hearing. So I'm looking for a good match for bad ears.

Mesa Subway 115 v Barefaced BB2 v Vanderkley 2*112
chris_b replied to Pirellithecat's topic in Amps and Cabs
I know my ears aren’t the best these days, but I can hear ‘old school’ in all these cabs. Go back to the 60’s and 70’s and listen to the likes of Wilton Felder with his Precision with old flats and many others on those sessions and IMO you’ll hear the SC and BB2 as well as the Two10. -
Performances that left you slack jawed

My jaw hit the floor when I saw my first John Mayall, Cream, Fleetwood Mac and Jeff Beck Group gigs. . . . . and stayed on the floor for Tony Williams Lifetime, Bo Diddley and Howling Wolf. Stunning gigs seems to come along every week back then. -

I used to be in a duo with an amazing Tommy Emmanuel style guitarist. IMO they were both jaw dropping. On a gig, the audience would be crammed around his side of the stage, and on my side, I'd get the latecomers! -
Sorry, but that doesn't work for me. I'm just browsing and I want to see specs, pictures and prices before I start making phone calls to anyone.

For all the years I played a Fender Precision I could easily have used a Squier. I definitely wouldn't have chosen a Futurama Bass II. I started on a very semi pro Framus. Actually it was a pretty good bass when you consider the other cheaper basses in the shop, a whole lot of Asian and Eastern European made junk. If a new band had a hit you could see them playing their various Hofners, Vox's, Hagstrom's, Rossetti's etc on their first TV appearances. On the next week's Ready Steady Go they would all be playing brand new Precisions, Strats, Rics and Gibsons. That was when pro and non-pro gear was a valid definition.
-
With the advent of CNC machines, pro and non-pro basses is not a definition that means very much. The gulf between a bass that a pro player and a non-pro player might choose has all but disappeared.

The website is a PIA. Doesn’t mention some of the cabs people apparently have bought and I couldn’t find a price list.
-
I guess it's the same as my Thunderfunk. I believe the lights stay on while there is power in the amp, ie while it's discharging the capacitors.
-
I don't know GR gear, but IMO the SM would be a good first step to the best rig you've owned. I have the SM and an SC. They each sound great and together bring the house down. I'll use both as a full range rig for my active Jazz bass, but, as a stand alone cab, I prefer the SC (more low end and slightly less top end). Sounds perfect with my passive P bass. All BF cabs are punchy and well defined.

I would be more interested if they offered an HPF rather than the octave thing. How many players actually use sub harmonics?

I put these two up the last time this thread was posted. I still like both, but the cover is streets ahead. . . . Original Cover

Best cover version? Joe Cocker singing With A Little Help From My Friends. Next best. . . . . Gladys Knight's Midnight Train To Georgia, instead of Jim Weatherly's original Midnight Plane To Houston!
