  1. I read that NWR didn't record it at that speed. The tape was speeded up in the studio and even he had a struggle to play it that fast in the beginning. Just solid practice I'm afraid, but this might help. Go to YouTube and hit the settings button. Hit the Playback Speed and put that on 0.75. That slows the song down to 3/4 speed. Makes the song easier to work out and start playing. When you're good at that speed try the normal setting. Good luck.
  2. IMO the size of the frets doesn't affect the tone or intonation. I prefer fat/big frets. I can feel where my fingers are. I played a Dingwall once and it was like playing a fretless.
  3. We don't encourage "calling out" because, as has been said, the price is only the business of the seller, no one else's. Some people seem to think sale threads can be discussion threads. IMO discussing the pro's and con's of the instrument, or picking holes in the sale thread is just bad manners. Always take issues to PM and keep it off the thread.
  4. The filters are off when they are turned anti clockwise, pointing at 7 o'clock. Don't have them pointing at 12 o'clock.
  5. I've always heard others getting a good sound out of Markbass, and IMO my LM2 had a very good sound. The trouble with parting company from bass gear that has been with you for 20 years or more is you are so in tune with it that everything else fails in comparison. We've all bought a piece of gear and wondered why it doesn't sound like what it replaced. The reality is a new piece of gear will never sound like an old friend. You have to find something that sounds good and learn to love it. If you really can't do that, don't worry, just move on. For about 4 or 5 years I've used Aguilar amps through Barefaced cabs. Can't see me changing that in the foreseeable future.
  6. Here you go Al. My idea of great bass tone . . . . @Al Krow Delbert with George Hawkins on bass Keb Mo with Hutch Hutchinson on bass Eric with Nathan East on bass George Duke with Christian McBride on bass https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHFJ9qhR0VM Keb Mo with Reggie McBride on bass https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mFd_i1j2Sc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jI3T9vUFM_c
  7. If this ad is withdrawn could you put that in the title.
  8. The action on my Spanish guitar was so bad/high that I couldn't hold down all 6 strings at the same time, to make a chord. A friend had a proper guitar and amp so as I wanted to play with him I decided to just play the bass lines. That worked well enough for me to stick at it.
  9. I wonder if we'll get Hans-Peter Wilfer jumping in and offering to help like that?
  10. You can look but don't even think about touching!! If you want to do anything bass related, learn a totally new song.
  11. I've shipped basses and amps in the UK and in Europe, but while the whole courier thing can be a lottery, over the last 10 years or so, I've never had a problem with Interparcel.
  12. Before the shutdown, The Oak used to put on 4 gigs a week. Let's hope they can survive this. RIP Ermir. Very sad news.
  13. True. It might be a good bass for £800, but that's not the point of a Sadowsky bass. The only thing on it in common with the previous basses is the name. We'll have to see if is it up to the Sadowsky standard.
  14. Nice one, Dave. Now all you need are a couple of tort pickguards.
  15. I have a shelf full of folders containing charts for every band I've played in in the last 20 years. There must be hundreds of songs in there. Some bands I can get by with a couple of run throughs, others need more work. These days, it takes as long as it takes.
  16. Keep playing them, over and over. When I had a gig coming up that required me to do more than just wing it, I played the set every day for a week. It didn't stop me having blank spots but there were far fewer of them.
  17. D A E F G D c a G C D A E F G D c a C A The lower case are almost ghost notes
  18. I think a PJ5 and a JJ5 are a perfect combination.
  19. Except. . . . . . Vodka is only good for a tipple after you've done the job. At 40%, there is not enough alcohol in Vodka or similar spirits to be effective in killing bugs. You need at least 60% alcohol.
  20. If it sounds like 750 watts then that's the figure you work to when you are planning cabs.
  21. I don't know if Novax are still in business, but they are the guys who started the fanned frets idea on electric basses.
  22. IMO a small finger span doesn't cause problems, but a bad technique does. If you look at videos of players, the good ones will always be moving their hands so as to place their fingers over the note they want to play. None of the "good" players anchor their thumb or stretch to reach notes.
