  1. Your mullet is ok, so is your slap. What's not OK is the director of the video and his his obvious belief that your band and your music wasn't enough and the audience needed his ping-pong direction to make you interesting!
  2. It's definitely not sacrilege, but I just don't think it a good use of your cash. Having done this in the past I don't see spending several hundred pounds with no idea what sound you're going to end up with as a good plan. I have a Precision that I modified and saw a massive improvement is tone when I replaced the P pickup. I was so impressed with modding I decided to add the J pickup and a preamp. That cost a lot and I got about a 5% improvement in certain circumstances. In the end the best sound was the preamp flat and the J off. So my experience tells me that mods work up to a point, then you're into diminishing returns very quickly.
  3. Pluck the lower note with your index finger, then pluck the high note with your middle finger. Start slowly and speed up.
  4. I don't know any pro pub/club musicians who are expecting to get back to "normal" this year and many of them are expecting next years "normal" to be very bleak.
  5. I used DR Lo-Riders and Hi-Beams for many years. A few years ago I switched to D'Addario NYXL on my Jazz bass. There's no going back after using these strings. Try them and see what you think.
  6. The problem is there is no rational solution to this problem. But there doesn't have to be. If RW seriously wants to sort out the legacy PF stuff he can do that. He just needs to set up his own web site with everything on it that he thinks is relevant to PF. If he wants to be the adult in the room he should include all PF (good and bad) and band members side projects as well. That would be a test of his maturity! Instead he airs his childish, petulant side rehashing old arguments in public when he knows there is no solution there. Maybe he's bored with the lockdown, but he really should be doing something positive rather than moaning about stuff that he can't change and ending up doing nothing.
  7. I wish. Sadly, even before the lockdown, my diary was telling me people don't seem to need a chris b as much as they used to!
  8. There are a lot of assumptions being expressed here, but it says a lot when the majority of posts are focussed on trying to find something negative to say. That's exceptional playing for a kid of his age and physical development.
  9. IMO if I wanted more versatility from a P bass I'd change the pickups. If that didn't work I'd get a good preamp pedal. If that didn't work I'd find a bass that did exactly what I wanted and buy that.
  10. When you choose the right tool for the job you do a better job. Natch.
  11. I would imagine those basses will sound pretty close to each other. Aggression is probably best measured by how the bassist plays.
  12. I hadn't heard that, but I believe Dave Gilmour played bass on some of their records.
  13. DG has moved on. Poor RW seems to be stuck in a time warp of negativity and self pity that he can't get his own way.
  14. A bass is a tool to do a job. The job is to make music. The number of strings is irrelevant. I prefer more choices of notes and playing positions so I play a 5 string bass.
  15. Waters has poisoned the relationship so effectively that if he wants a legacy website he'd better hope someone puts one together after him and DG have both snuffed it. Reading DG's comments you really get the feeling that any future Waters involvement really will be over his dead body. I guess DG owns the PF name and brand so it's reasonable for him to make the rules.
  16. Yet another use for a Precision. These basses are more than a one-trick pony.
  17. Keep a lookout for the 4 string version. What bass is it?
  18. So, if I've read this right, you don't want to play a 5 string bass but you're buying one because you can't get the 4 string version! If you don't mind me saying, planning to only use the top 4 strings on a 5 string bass is a weird idea. If you buy a 5 string bass you should be intending to play all the notes on all strings. You're not buying this bass for the right reason. I predict you'll be selling it inside 6 months.
  19. Yep. That's Vail Johnson in the Video. Keb Mo has about 5 different A list bassists on that album. It's a real master class of playing great lines for the song.
  20. As well as left hand muting, move your thumb to rest on the A string so that you are also touching the E string when you are playing the D and G. Your hands should never be static. Keep them moving to enable you to place your fingers at the right spot for every note.
  21. I get bored of all demo slap. This is Victor Wooten playing "normally" and being excellent in the process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgu2BG3G3i0
  22. Everyone's posting about hating slap, but all the examples are of "circus" slap bass. The sort of bass playing that is irrelevant to music/songs. Slap in the context of a song, ie Ashes to Ashes and Never Too Much, Thank You etc, can and does work very well.
  23. Excellent album. . . . . . . . and the "follow up" Dukes Of September, featuring the wonderful Freddie Washington.
  24. I'd suggest that while we are in lockdown you stop washing your clothes. No one will notice.
