  1. IMO the gear, even the EQ, is secondary to what you play but the most important part is how you play it. I'd say an Ashdown or Markbass amp would sound pretty good, and match up with some of your cabs. IMO you can't go wrong with Aguilar. I'd go for a 500 watt amp so you can get a good, clean sound at any volume.
  2. This shouldn't even be a battle. It's all music. There is great music in all styles and genres. Whatever the other guy is doing is cool as long as he's playing it the best way he can.
  3. i think there is one mad man who has bought all of them!
  4. I'd rather play with best players. I can deal with idiots and Aholes but bad players, even nice ones, would kill me.
  5. I reckon there was a drop or two of JD involved there!
  6. The band leader in my last and longest cover band chose many of the songs and was up for suggestions from all of us. Any song that had been in the Top 20 at any point from the 1950's to today was eligible. We tried to steer away from the usual suspects. Any song that got a good reaction remained on the list and any song that didn't was "rested". Songs from the 80's seemed to be most popular with audiences.
  7. I did a gig last month with my practice rig, both my Barefaced One10's and the TH500 volume on about 3! That's the quietest gig I've done in decades. No help from a PA either. It would be nice to be in a band that had a proper FOH capability.
  8. I'm up for it. How much are they paying?
  9. Oh yes. . . . . . . . . . and while a room full of people is having a great time, all because of you. If you do it properly everyone wins on so many levels with cover bands. Covers v Originals has never been an either-or situation for me. I'm lucky to be able to do both.
  10. This is shocking news. I'm stunned. I've been playing a Mike Lull PJ5 for 8 years and it's one of the best basses I've picked up. I've seen the guys in the shop are going to carry on. Excellent news.
  11. There have been so many talented people who have written so many great songs. What's wrong in wanting to play some of them?
  12. You might get a resonance with a cab sitting on a hollow stage but I'm pretty sure that a flight case would not be large enough to cause a problem.
  13. Does age matter? Depends on the target audience. If it's a bunch of assorted herberts down the pub or a bunch of heavy metal orcs then probably not, but for anything else? Maybe. I first ran into age discrimination when I was 20. I phoned about a gig advertised in MM and was told I was too old, because the band leader was 13!! I know a great guitarist who was told he was too fat and a brilliant bass player who was told he was too ugly. Presentation does matter in many instances. If you're old enough to be their Dad, then you probably won't be fitting in on many levels.
  14. There is a lot to be said for striving for perfection. I don't knock that as an objective, but does perfection mean copying note for note? Not sure about that.
  15. Listen to Bonnie Raitt's fantastic original version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW9Cu6GYqxo
  16. Sister Rosetta Tharp is unique and very influential talent. I'm glad she finally got into the R&R Hall of Fame. She deserved to be there a long time ago. If you want to look at Tharp's influences, then Charlie Patton is probably as far back as we can go with any certainty when trying to discover the origins of modern music.
  17. Jeeez. Aren't you just glad that D class, Neo and FOH came along!!
  18. Teddy Swims, what a great voice. He's touring in the UK in May.
  19. Scott King on bass for the Mustangs has a great feel to his playing.
  20. If you want to stay with big gear, I'd suggest a Barefaced 610 cab and a trolley for your amp. https://barefacedbass.com/product-range/Retro-Six10.htm https://www.screwfix.com/p/wolfcraft-heavy-duty-aluminium-folding-trolley-100kg/5140P?kpid=5140P&ds_kid=92700048793316002&ds_rl=1243324&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIiqS195bN5wIVV-DtCh2cnAKsEAQYASABEgK0F_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  21. I just had a personal message from monicabrownb6. If you Google this id you see the same message on many forums. IMO it is a scam of some kind.
  22. That's a good, but the point is no one has to "settle" for anything. IMO the video is starting from the belief that most players will want to get better. The points are things that are not always obvious but knowing about them will help all players to improve in many areas.
  23. An Aguilar TH500 works very well with all BF cabs, and makes a much simpler set up. You can run your preamp into the power section, run the preamp into the regular instrument input or just use the TH500. Lots of options.
