  1. There was nothing repairable or salvageable when my Framus finally died, so it went to the dump. Same for my Vox Foundation with a blown 118 cab. Six months of advertising it didn't even get 1 phone call. So to the dump it went.
  2. The DB210 weighs 59lbs and the DB115 weighs 71lbs! The weight of all the gear I take to my loudest gigs doesn't even add up to 59lbs!
  3. PJB sounds good. . . . not my sound but it's very good gear. And yes, I've downsized my Bergantino 112 and 212 cabs to 2 Barefaced 112's. I'd suggest you keep the TH500 (great amps) and replace your cabs with a Barefaced Super Compact (21lbs) or a Two10 (28lbs). Lighter, louder and IMO better tone.
  4. I've been fired twice so the band leader could get his mate in. The drummer I'm playing with tonight was fired, from a band we both played in, for exactly the same reason. Some band leaders will stick with you even if you're shagging their wife and other will sell you down the river at the slightest excuse. That's the life we live in bands. That's why you need to network so you can quickly bounce back and stick two fingers up at these guys.
  5. . . . . and they would have been very happy to make you one. I bet it would have sounded excellent.
  6. ps Out of interest what does it weigh?
  7. If you are playing bass then you have a use. It's not a 4 or 5 string, it's a bass. Full of notes that will work on every song you want to play.
  8. Very good basses. You get a lot for the money. I found my Lakland, my first 35" scale, to be the easiest bass to play.
  9. For a "cocktail" gig I'd get a good 112 and use the 150 watt amp. When I do a gig like that I use half of my big rig.
  10. There was a sister video where he played these basses without the track. You could hear minor differences, but that's my previous point. We turn ourselves inside out over small differences in sound and some think they are on a quest for the "perfect" sound. When you hear a mashup like this you realise that good is good enough and the focus should be on what we are playing rather than the tools.
  11. The Skatalites used double bass to good effect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bLVdKbPHHY
  12. Videos like this are interesting. They show me how similar most basses are and with a little EQing how 90% of them will sound indistinguishable from each other. An Ed Freidland Precision bass comparison. . . . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoJUz1oajXo
  13. I could have gigged with any of them, but I preferred the Jazz basses and definitely wouldn't have owned any of the humbuckers. I didn't see anything that would have knocked my current Sadowsky off the perch.
  14. I accept Scott Devine has a few mannerisms which could annoy, but I think he's producing an excellent service for bassists around the world. I'm very happy he's created such a successful business.
  15. The reason Wal preferred using a mahogany core was the tone. It's a wood with a nice resonance and forms a great tone.
  16. There are some Ken Smith treads on Talk bass at at the moment. I played a few and lusted after them at the Bass Centre, in days gone by. I really like them but have accepted my preference is for the single coil pickup sound.
  17. Nice curly cable. . . . . . . . matches my nail polish.
  18. Since the 80's I've always said no to NYE gigs. But this year I was asked and said yes! It's a trio gig with vocals, guitar and bass. These are excellent players so I'm in for a good night.
  19. The usual, get more gigs and network more.
  20. Stick a lump of foam under the strings for extra thumpness. The more foam you use the duller and thumpier, and more vintage, your sound gets. Works with either rounds or flats. IMO when recording you can't use too much foam, but I usually remove it for gigs.
  21. A guitarist I know played in Wandsworth Prison. The warders had to double check all the unpacked gear and then search the band, on the way in and out again.
  22. Hi guys, best wishes for a happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year for you and your families. Here's to good gigs and good music throughout 2020.
  23. Sounds like the Ypres Castle Inn in Rye. About 57 steep and uneven steps up to the pub.
