  1. These could easily be fantastic basses but to my mind they are Warwick's. I know that's exactly what Roger Sadowsky is trying to avoid with his video, but there you go.
  2. Which Nordstrands did you install?
  3. In the 80's I was working to develop a new computer system for a major UK credit bank. When specifying the requirements the user department's senior manager asked what we should do about Mr xxxxx. We said, "Pardon?" Apparently every couple of months Mr xxxxx turned up with a large suitcase full of cash, which the manager accepted and fed into the old computer system. How could they input the cash in the new system? They couldn't see the problem, even after we had explained that this was totally illegal!!
  4. Why does your Ashdown amp need "some warmth"?
  5. . . . . . . . . then, it's fine. Tell your mate to get his own bass and you just carry on playing yours how you like it.
  6. I can't get there. I've got tickets for Keb Mo on that night!!
  7. Click on the gig for best price tickets. £18.50 plus booking fees at the Electric Ballroom Camden, London. Damn, can't go I'm off to see Keb Mo that night!!!!
  8. The price and the kit existed before the switch came fitted as standard.
  9. Most small drivers will come in heavy cabs. Small drivers won't have the full low end response you are asking for, unless you use lots of them. You can do better than that. IMO if weight has become an overriding concern and you still want great tone and useable volume, I'd suggest 1 or 2 Barefaced cabs. A Super Compact is 21lbs (9.5kg) and a One10 is about 15lbs (6.8kg). That's what I use with my Aguilar amps.
  10. . . . . . and no BIllie Jean ~ Michael Jackson Walk This Way ~ Aerosmith All Or Nothing ~ The Small Faces The Joker ~ Steve Miller I Want To Break Free ~ Queen
  11. It is. It doesn't have to be "special" just good at a good price and if someone likes it, that's all it needs.
  12. I don't know if Skylines are the same, but the US Laklands had the serial number pressed into the wood of the side of the head stock, just by the shaft of the B string tuner.
  13. This still makes me smile. . . . from ear to ear.
  14. Bill Black is playing slap double bass on the original.
  15. I believe Klaus Voorman played on a lot of Lennon's records at that time.
  16. Nice version. A good one to start with I think! Thanks for that.
  17. Now OBBM is out of the picture I'd make my own.
  18. The best advice is to call Barefaced and ask them this question. In practical terms I would think of a 12 ohm cab as an 8 ohm cab. I would expect a 12 ohm cab and an 8 ohm cab to be indistinguishable when running an amp at sensible settings, ie not flat out. With a 500 watt amp, for instance, you'll be able to make either cab sound as loud as the other by adjusting the master volume settings. Barefaced used to supply the switch for a DIY upgrade. Not sure if they still do that.
  19. Write it down. On paper a pattern usually emerges.
  20. I spent most of December running through songs for 4 bands playing over the Christmas and New Year period. That's 8 sets of songs and extras that might be used for encores or added to the set at last minute! I hate it when they give you an extra list of "we might play these" songs!! After that lot I'm having a breather. Whilst "resting" I have been looking at Brother Strut videos. Over the years they have used some excellent bass players. I feel a project coming on to get up to speed with some of these songs.
  21. Genzler has a very high reputation. I'm sure you're going to be very happy with this choice.
  22. Chaps, I bought this amp from dave_bass5 last November, and he bought it new in October 2019. I was looking for an upgrade to my TH500, a big fat sound for my Precision and after reading all the great reviews I decided to give the BB800 a go. This amp sounds very good through my Barefaced cabs, but after running an a/b comparison over several days I've decided to stick with the TH500. It was a very close call, but now the BB800 has to go. I only played this amp at home and it is in perfect and brand new condition. It comes with the carry bag, UK and continental mains leads and the original box. More info here https://www.quilterlabs.com/index.php/product/bass-block-800/ The price is £400 (UK postage included), or £390 if you collect. No trades thank you. I'm happy to meet up if I can get there. Cheers Chris I hope Dave doesn't mind me pinching his photos. . . . . . .
  23. Certainly. That's 250 watts into each cab if you were running the amp flat out, which probably won't sound very good!!
  24. Does "giving it some beans" mean that you are hitting the strings harder? If so, don't hit the strings that hard, or you could drop the height of the pickups.
  25. Not disagreeing, but certainly questioning the assumption! I know there a some bass players who use compression pedals but 99% of the guys I see don't use any pedals at all, so I'd guess there isn't a general need for compression to be added to the manufacturing cost of most amps, which are likely to be built to a pretty competitive price point as it is. If a list were made for facilities to be added to an amp, my vote would be for an HPF. These are already starting to appear. IMO compression is probably better off staying in the pedal market. YMMV
