  1. Delta Lady, Darling Be Home Soon, The Letter. . . . . Joe Cocker
  2. Take the action down a little, lighten up your grip and lighten up your right hand technique.
  3. No controls on a bass isn't the end of the world. We all have a matching set on the front of our amps. How many players have pre-amp pedals? Then again instruments in an orchestra have got by without controls for hundreds of years.
  4. Dingwall, again, with its 37" B string.
  5. The definitive cover of Hallelujah was Jeff Buckley's 1994 version. Joe Cocker, Get By With A Little Help From My Friends. Delbert McClinton, Standing On Shaky Ground. Eva Cassidy, Over The Rainbow.
  6. Don't know about you, but I always get a positive and happy vibe when watching Joe Dart. Love his sound, what he plays and all of the guys he is playing with. It's not about the gear.
  7. I've got a set of TI flats on my P bass. I know they are an expensive initial outlay, but you won't need another set in 20 years, so they get cheaper over time.
  8. Sounds like a cue to write some relevant comments on his FB page.
  9. Some do. Some amps have 50% switches which I believe include or exclude valves from the power amp.
  10. That is the definition of a bass guitarist. I know there a lot of guys here that just signed up to play like their heroes, but there are also guys who want to be bass players. No one has a problem with the concept of doubling on electric and double bass, so why not include keys. Check out super serious players like Alex Al and Brandon Gilliard, Nate Watts etc.
  11. If you are really interested in synth bass lines, I wouldn't be looking at pedals, I'd be checking out the likes of the Moog Sub Phatty.
  12. MEC and SD a re good brands, so I'm not going to say they were crap, just not my preference. I'm not sure how it helps the OP to know what I didn't like 30 years ago.
  13. I prefer to dwell on the success stories, but if you want to hear about the stuff that didn't work out . . here goes. . . when I removed my average sounding, lifeless Fender pickups I put in a set of MEC's (from Warwick via the Bass Centre). IMO they were OK but nothing special. I then put in some SD's (can remember which ones). While it was getting better, the sound wasn't quite what I wanted, so I went over to Chandlers who put in a Bartolini P bass pickup. . . . and that was it! A great full, fat tone. Tons of low mid punch.
  14. I put Bartolini into my P bass. That was in the late 80's so I don't remember which ones, but they improved the sound 1000%. My current passive PJ5 has SD's in. An Amazingly good sound. PS I've seen reviews that claim Bill Lawrence pickups are the best. He was an innovative designer and designed pickups for Fender before going out on his own.
  15. Turn the gain down, turn the bass down, join a louder band. Do you have a pedal boosting your volume? Was this gig a quiet gig? If your other gigs are louder then this amp might work, otherwise, as good as it sounds, seems like you have an amp for a louder band. Buy a smaller amp for gigs like this and use the louder head when you can.
  16. It doesn't. . . . and it isn't "baloney". The comments about "size" have been made in relation to bass rigs. This comment is being made in relation to PA systems. These represent different requirements, criteria and solutions.
  17. I use PRO17's. Personally I wouldn't go for any lesser protection than that.
  18. My current 12's produce fantastic low mids which is what our bass rigs are designed to do best. Don't confuse the name of the instrument with a range of frequencies.
  19. Most pickups in active systems are passive, so you can easily convert any bass from active to passive and vice versa, but why would you? What problem would you be fixing?
  20. The switchs are fitted as a matter of course these days. It's now called the Two10S, I got BF to add the switch to my first 210.
  21. The Barefaced Two10 also has a switch on the back. It is just another step in the set up. Plug in the speaker cables and then make sure the switch is correctly set. I use 4 ohm, 2.67 ohm and 2 ohm amps. It's just a simple thing to check I'm using the correct amp with the cabs I want to use that night.
  22. IMO most amps would work ell with your cab. I use Aguilar AG700, TH500 and Thunderfunk amps with my BF cabs. Always a top quality sound.
  23. If you can't see the bass the audience can't see you! Never mind LED's, sounds like the band should be setting up stage lights of some description.
  24. Nothing has changed. The guys who wanted and/or needed to play P basses always did. The guys who pick basses because of a "trend" didn't affect those who wanted the P bass sound. I've owned a P bass since 1968 and have owned active Jazz style basses since the late 90's. I didn't even know J and P basses were going in or out of fashion during that time! If the P bass is a "trend" guys those guys will probably be off on another fad soon and people like me will still be rocking the basses we've always used.
