  1. We were supporting Status Quo at the Western-super-Mare Winter Gardens Pavilion, when after several hours consuming god knows what, Rick Parfitt staggered into our dressing room to say hello. He took a turn for the worse and had a massive chunder in the sink, which wasn't connected to any pipework! The carpet was soaked and the room stank and apparently he blamed us when the promoter discovered the mess!!
  2. I didn't like the versions played by the "bass cover guys". They were clunky and didn't groove. IMO they are not a basis for learning anything. Listen to the original Delbert and Temptations versions if you want the real bass lines. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fq6OYSKIxxk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3x5aHMi8y0
  3. Indeed, even though it was a lie circulated by the Police after the raid.
  4. I wouldn't use a set of strings because Pino has his name on them. But I would use the strings that Pino is using, which, if you ignore the marketing, seem to be TI and Labella.
  5. I bought so many sets of Stadium strings that Nick started giving me a discount.
  6. I Got You (I Feel Good) was recorded in 1965. Predates any other Funk record I know about.
  7. I spent many an hour lurking at the Bass Centre. Eavesdropping on the likes of Cass Lewis, Joe Hubbard and Dave Bronze. I never bought a bass, but I bought many sets of strings, several amps and a few cabs over the years.
  8. That's like saying talking is enough and I don't need to learn to read or write. Lessons have nothing to do with brain-washing. They give us the tools with which we can express ourselves more fully and more completely.
  9. Duh!!!! I missed one out. . . . !
  10. Hi, forget the science lesson, your amp can run. . . . 1 x 8 ohm cab (8 ohms) 2 x 8 ohm cabs (4 ohms) 3 x 8 ohm cabs (2.67 ohms) 1 x 4 ohm cab (4 ohms) 2 x 4 ohm cabs (2 ohms) 1 x 8 ohm cab and 1 x 4 ohm cab (2.67ohms) That's it. You're good with these configurations.
  11. I never understand why people want to eradicate all traces of their sales. IMO it's better to keep the For Sale ads for future reference.
  12. I replaced the pickup in my passive Precision with a Bartolini. That was a 1000% improvement. I then added the preamp and the improvement was marginal. I had a cheap Jazz bass which sounded pretty wooden. I put it through a preamp pedal and the sound improved a bit, but was nowhere near what I needed. My advice is to start by replacing the pickups. That might be all you need, and if you also go down the preamp route at a later date you'll get a much better sound.
  13. Hi. You guys are having some rough times over there right now. Hope you are safe.
  14. Great shot. That's the right colour for a bass. . . .
  15. What string gauges and make do you use for that tuning?
  16. Give me a break! I can't remember that far back!! Probably something like Green Onions by Booker T and the MG's
  17. Very sad news. I didn't know Nick, but he certainly generated a lot of love, respect and positive thoughts. RIP Nick.
  18. I'd love this gig. . . .
  19. Hi, do you have a weight and what is the string spacing at the bridge. Cheers
  20. Lucky you. These are fantastic basses. I'd love to own a few but I've never seen a lightweight one and what I have seen and played have always been too heavy for my iffy back.
  21. Shame they don't do flatwounds.
  22. If you look at the great music created in the last 60 years, a lot of it was created under the influence of one thing or another. Back in the day, I've seen and experienced music being played at various stages of influence and most of it was very good. Drugs are not always a problem. How some people can't deal with them is always a problem.
  23. Trombone or trombone player?
  24. I believe the best 212 cab would be a Barefaced Super Twin or Super Twin T.
  25. There are no stupid questions. . . . but the answer is, it depends. Depends on the amount of air the driver can move, the number of drivers, the size of the cab and probably a dozen other parameters which will affect the sound and volume. I have 2 x 112 cabs that sound louder than my previous 3 x 112 cabs. A previous 212 sounded louder than my 410. The Eden is probably designed to put out less bass and more mids.
