  1. My Thunderfunk TFB750-A is now for sale. This amp was hand built in the US in 2011 and runs 305 watts into 8 ohms, 630 watts into 4 ohms and 800 watts into 2 ohms. It weighs 21 lbs and is in perfect condition. This is a powerful solid state amp with a fantastic clear, full, fat and well defined tone. This amp has the factory upgrade (upgraded capacitors and improved cooling) making it the equivalent of the TFB800-B2, which allows safe 2 ohm and 800watt running. It is currently mounted in a 4u SKB rack which is functional but not great, so I'll throw that in for £10. All my gear lives in my smoke free back room and this bass has always travelled to gigs in my car. If anyone wants to try this amp PM me and we can work something out. I can post (at buyers expense) but would prefer not to and can deliver within 30 miles of Kingston upon Thames, or further if I'm going that way.   3. Yes. Morado is also called Pau Ferro. I put Morado because that's what Sadowsky called it when I got in touch with them for details about the bass.
  4. My Sadowsky Metro RV5 Jazz is now for sale. It was built in 2005, a 3 tone sunburst with tort pick guard. There is some player wear on this bass. In mid 2017 I had Martin at the Bass Gallery give it the once over. He tweaked a few things and did a set up and fret stone. It now plays beautifully. The pre amp (incorporating the VTC) creates that huge Sadowsky tone. The frets are in top shape and the neck is straight and very stable. Currently strung with DR Nickel Lo-Riders 45-125. Specs are as follows: - 34” neck - Alder body and maple neck with Morado fretboard - Sadowsky hum cancelling J pickups (60’s location) - Sadowsky 2-band pre amp, VTC and true bypass passive switch - 21 frets - 19mm spacing @ bridge - nut width 1.875" - Radius 12" - Dunlop straplock buttons - weight is 9lb 6oz (4.26kg) - Includes original Sadowsky soft case Controls are: - Master volume - Pan pot (pickup blend) - Treble roll-off (VTC) pull for passive option, ie pre-amp true bypass - Boost only tone controls - Stacked bass and treble (bass at the bottom) All my gear lives in my smoke free back room and this bass has always travelled to gigs in my car. I bought it from Basschat in March 2017 because I'd always wanted a Sadowsky Jazz after playing several at the Bass Gallery. This is a reluctant sale of one of the best sounding basses I've owned, but due to shoulder and back issues I need to move to a lighter bass. If anyone wants to try this bass PM me and we can work something out. I can post (at buyers expense) and can deliver within 50 miles of Kingston upon Thames, or further if I'm going that way.   6. I really don't see the problem with this bridge. But if you have to change it I'd go for a Hipshot A Style. I have these on several basses.

  8. I have never owned or lifted an SVT but I have use hired ones on tour (with lots of roadies) and they really are a force of nature. I can understand why they cornered the market and have stood the test of time, but they have never been an option for my world. I did own an Ampeg 215 at one point and I could hardly get it from the car into the gig on my own. One of my more crazy buying decisions! I notice that, these days, many of the bass players I watch (Nathan East, Willie Weeks etc) are touring with the Aguilar equivalent, the DB750 and DB810.

  12. I had an admittedly low volume rehearsal through a Markbass (Asian) 112 combo last night and it sounded as good as anything I've used in years.
  13. So I've just looked at the Youtube and I don't understand all the negativity. Sure it's not 1981 Chic. That might be a preference for some but it can't be a criticism of this band. It seems that US audiences are more open to the energy of a live performance and IMO too many Brits would prefer everything to stay "as it was". Jerry Barnes and his bass playing is being pushed forward as a feature of this band. That's a big difference between then and now. I love where bass is going in the hands of these players.
  14. Sit the combo on the matching extension cab, roll off some low end, push the low mids forward and turn up the volume. Then everyone in the room should be able to hear the bass sitting in and supporting the mix with no trouble.
  15. It's no ones job to keep time because everyone should/must be playing in time. Everyone should have a sound on stage that enables the band and audience to clearly hear each instrument. If anyone in a band can't do those 2 things then you should be looking for a replacement.
  16. In the late 60's for a month or so there were a series of Saturday afternoon gigs in Hyde Park (no the big ones, Grand Funk Railroad etc), but a much smaller event. We saw the likes of John Mayall and many of his off-shoot bands, like Aynsley Dunbar's Retaliation etc, the Jeff Beck Group, Fleetwood Mac. A few pints in the Tabard at Turnham Green then jump on the 88 bus up to the gig. Great times.
  17. Sunday 16th July - Tommy Blaize at Boaters in Kingston. If you're within travelling distance check this out. Blaize usually has Phil Mulford on bass and Ian Thomas on drums. An evening of high quality funk and soul.
  18. I was late arriving to one gig, rushed in and propped the gig bag up on the seat behind the amp and cabs. Then smelt the burning. I hadn't seen the candles on the window ledge and my gig bag was melting in the flame. Luckily I was connecting up the cabs, I guess if I'd gone back out to the car it would have ignited.

We all got 1 song and it's a long story, but our number was taken from the album, with crowd noises added to make it sound like it was recorded at the festival.

One blink and you'd have missed us though. My first festival was Reading in 1966. Cream's first big gig was on the Sunday, but I went on the Friday. Saw Geno Washington, Spencer Davis Group and headlined by the Small Faces.
