The bottom line, if you have a drummer who can't keep time. . . . it's time for a new drummer.

£50 polymer notes are fine. . . . tilt the note side to side and the hologram should say "Fifty" and "Pounds". There are something like half a dozen more features on a £50 that indicate it is genuine.

In certain styles of music time can drift a little. A few bpm here and there. That's not the same as speeding up or slowing down! But while the drummer usually gets the job. . . . It's actually everyone's responsibility to be playing in time.

They are good aren't they. I bought mine in the late 80's. It's still in perfect condition and is still my main cable.

Mostly not, but it does happen.

Yawn, the usual dog-whistle nonsense. . . . KR gave a personal opinion in an interview. Shock horror. . . . . As usual people are lining up to give him a kicking because he is old, famous, successful and has a view on something.

This. I either run a 500 or 700watt amp into 1400watts of cabs. Even with a 5 string bass at volume there is zero chance I'm going to damage the drivers, or sound bad by over driving the amp.

Pick up height adjustment...... Good advice :)
chris_b replied to Mike Bungo's topic in Bass Guitars
Easy. Raise the pickups until you can hear them being hit by the strings when you play hard. Then lower them until they are not being hit by the strings. -
All you need to know is any 500 watt amp, 1 or 2 Barefaced 112's, leads and a bass and you've cracked it.

Twas also the night of the slightly annoying umbrella incident that took place out side the Wimpey in Ealing Broadway. Who could ever forget that debacle.

If you are making decisions in the dark, about an environment you hardly know, the best solution is to be as flexible as possible. Buy an amp and separate cab. Watts are cheap. Too many is never a problem, but too few will always ruin the gig. If you think you want 100 watts, get 200, even 300 watts because you will sound pretty bad if you buy a 100 watt amp and find you need to use 100 watts. You need clean headroom for the best bass sound, so you will sound much better using 100 watts from a 300 watt amp. I used to play in a duo with a miked up acoustic guitarist. I used a 500 watt amp and a good 112. IME a 500 watt amp with the volume on 3 sounds much better than a 100 watt amp with the volume on 9. It looks to me like you are totally underestimating your requirements. If I'm wrong, that's great, but if I'm right you won't sound good on gigs and will be trying to buy a larger rig in no time. A small low powered combo could be an expensive mistake. An amp and cab enables you to replace/upgrade each separately. Lets you add another cab or use a different cab.

Burns Tru Bass 88 black nylon coated strings in the 60's Rotosound RS66's in the 70's and most of the 80's Elites from the Bass Centre in the 80's and 90's DR Lo-Riders, Hi-Beams, in the 00's and 10's TI flats in the 10's and 20's D'Addario NYXL in the 20's

You're overthinking this. Over the years I've played about 80% of those songs with fingers and it sounded fine. I know a bassist who has played many of those songs, with a pick, he never uses fingers, and he sounds fine too. There is no right or wrong answer here. Neither is better or worse, Use the technique(s) that you are most comfortable with.

I only play music where the bass has to sound like a bass, so I've never found a use for pedals. I've tried a couple at home, but never taken them to a gig. Good basses, amps and cabs does everything I need.

Thanks. . . . @Kiwi What is the reasoning behind not being able to reject some cookies? Whatever it is. . . . I would like a REJECT ALL option that actually rejects all. Can we have one? -
If I understand it correctly regular running of Ccleaner will delete all cookies. There is also a Firefox option to delete cookies at the end of the session.

If I have not clicked on any box and saved the settings, does that mean I have, in effect, rejected all? -
I had no idea you could buy a bass guitar in 1936!

That's true. Renaissance designs were very similar, but Leo knew Bigsby, they were both in LA. Paul Bigsby designed solid body guitars before Leo got in on the act. There is an interesting entry on Wikipedia for PauL bigsby.
