Even the most complicated music is simple, if you break it down into sections.

The point of a head is what it sounds like. After that you buy the weight, size, shape and colour you choose. What the cab weighs doesn't come into it.

I can listen to Larry Graham all day, Marcus Miller for 5 mins and Mark King for 10 seconds. IMO it's just one of the techniques we should all know in order to become better and more complete players. The best slap players use it sparingly and effectively, ie Chuck Rainey, Alex Al, Reggie McBride and Nathan East. I have several regrets in my bass playing life and one of them is that I never managed to learn to slap, but I'm in good company, ie Wilton Felder, Willie Weeks and Duck Dunn.

IMO the BF Two10 will easily outpace the Berg. You currently have a tweeter which you might miss, might not. That will depend on how much you use it. I'd still email Alex.

This is the problem with "How long is a piece of string" questions. You get so many answers that you can't make an informed decision. What amp and cab are you currently using?

Edgy sound, loud drummer, pick, 4 ohm amp. . . . I'd also be looking at the 12" cabs, then again the best answer is probably don't ask us email Alex and ask him. He's pretty good at matching players requirements and his cabs. What is your definition of loud? I use 2 Super Compacts in my [u]loud[/u] rock/blues band. If your pick playing means you want top end "bite" in your sound you may need the BB2's compression driver or SM's tweeter.

Hi Radchenko, I still think the BB2 will do what you want in a 1 cab format, but you can talk all these ideas through with Alex at Barefaced. Just drop him an email.

Years ago I saw her on TV doing a Bobby Bland song. Everyone covers BB songs from Joe Cocker down and this was one of the best versions I've heard. Lulu is/was wasted on pop songs.

If you already have an SC and want more sound, tone, "air" (what ever that means) in a single cab I'd get the BB2. The BB2 has more of everything, highs, lows, "presence", the lot. If you are insistent on a single, small cab, the BB2 is the only one I know that would do the job.

If you have a weak B string it might just need the pickup raising, or lowering the pickups on the G string side. If the instrument is set up properly then you should be able to use any amp at home.

You will end up with the thumb moving automatically. You won't even think about because your focus will only be the note you are going to play.

I don't know about any other Fender cabs, but the current Fender Rumble 410 is (surprisingly) 8 ohms. That's good because if you want to get louder you can just add another cab, but usually 410's are 4 ohms. Your 250 watt amp will only be putting out 125 watts into 8 ohms so I reckon you 'll need to be looking at a 500watt D class amp to get what you need out of this cab, whatever it is. Most modern D class amps will go into protect mode if you plug the wrong number of cabs in. I would expect that to prevent any damage to the amp if you get it wrong.

Your bass teacher is right. Why are you checking up on him? The easiest and most effective right hand technique is to move your thumb from string to string (between pickup, E string and A string) when you are playing. Watch videos of the worlds best players and you'll see most of them doing this.

There is a bass player with the same name as me in Sydney, Oz! The only difference is that she is isn't male and I am! Apart from immediate family I'd only ever heard of one other person with my surname, but I had a lot of trouble finding a name format that was unique when I set up my email address. There seem to be quite a few people in the UK with my name.

I have 2 5 string basses, a P and a J. That's down from last Christmas when I had a P and 4 J's. I'm looking to upgrade the J but can't see me owning more than 2 basses at a time any more. My thoughts are; with the cash I had tied up in 4 good Jazz basses I could have bought 1 seriously good bass. So that's now the plan.

My experiences of buying and selling here have mostly been positive and all but a few of the guys have been a pleasure to deal with. Some people will leave a day or even 2 between contacts and others won't wait 10 mins. Some will keep you informed and some don't bother. When I'm selling I give the first guy who says he wants it a reasonable time to sort himself out, even if that takes a couple of days. If people are talking to you then you can deal with it. If they go silent for a day I just pm them that I'm contacting the other buyers. I did leave some buyers hanging recently. I had a bit of an emergency at home and lost focus on the sales. I still feel bad about that and again apologise to anyone who was affected. I haven't been messed about by buyers but I have been by sellers, several times! After 2 days of PM's I was arranging to go and collect an amp and the seller "suddenly" remembered he'd promised the amp to someone else! Awhile ago I said I'd have the item and would get back to a seller, but half an hour later he PM'ed me and said it was sold and "I'd lost it". Basically saying tough luck mate! A bit harsh, but what can you do? I think that seller was an a-hole but as a buyer you have very little control and no come back in these situations. Put it down to experience and move on.

How does he do it? I really don't care. . . . as long as the cab is light, loud, makes a great noise, is flexible and modular then I have an interest. More flexibility is always a good thing and a flexible good thing is pretty good in my book.

At the start [i]how[/i] you play with the other guys is more important than [i]what[/i] you're playing? That'll come later. Are they at the same level as you?

If you join a band you'll need to get up to speed on what is important and put the stuff that isn't aside for later. With regard to "fills". . . . what sounds good played at home might not work so well in a band. Get the band going and things will become much clearer.
