What amp and cab are you posting about? This is the problem with low rated 4 ohm cabs, if you want to play louder the usual route is to add another cab, and you can't unless our amp will run to 2.6 ohm or 2 ohm. You should be fine as long as you don't turn the volume up. The cab could manage if you don't use a lot of volume or bass in your sound. Mids and highs won't attack the speaker as much as a big low end. You can replace the speaker but then you've changed the whole sound of the cab. So you won't know whether you still "love" it or not until after all the expense and work. You still seem to be painted into a corner with this cab. I would replace it and get something that works out of the box.

Interesting. You can see the differences between your bass and the Gibson it was based on but blind to the same thing between a Lull and a Fender.

I have no problem with any songs listed so far. A cover band should be aiming to play songs that go down well with the audience, but it's always better to choose songs that are not played every week by every band. These always got positive reactions for us. What ever bass is my go-to bass. In the last 20 years it's been Wal, Lakland and Lull. They all made a great noise and I managed to make them all sound just like me.

She got married to me. Anything I can do is small change compared to that.

Sounds like 12 ohms is really a non issue. I'd keep it at 12 ohms because no changes are needed if you want to add a second cab. Will look like 6 ohms to your 4 ohm amp.

As long as there is nothing wrong with the amp I'd keep it (upgrade it later when you're happy you've got the right cab) and put all your budget into the best cab you can find. My opinion is you should be looking at Bergantino and Barefaced cabs.

I've seen Aston Barrett using Ampeg 810's and Eden 410's. I know several reggae bass players on the club and pub circuit using BF Super Compacts. I use my SC's when I dep for them. You don't need excessively low bass for Reggae, just a full and fat sound.

I agree. . . try first. I've reduced the master volume on my TH500 amp to between 9 and 10 o'clock with my Super Compacts. I used to run it at about 12 o'clock with my Bergantino cabs. Barefaced cabs seem to be more efficient, so your cab will be louder which will probably compensate for using fewer watts. I reckon you might be OK with 12ohms.

Half of my life has been spent playing passive basses and the rest was active. I really have to think hard to remember which basses were which because the overall sound and the way they played were the only important things about them. My playing time is now split between a passive P bass and an active Jazz with an 18v preamp. The 18v preamp is a first for me and the first gig was a nightmare because, yet again, I've discovered a piece of kit that highlights the deficiencies in my playing! The sound of this bass is crisp, clear and punchy as ****. It's the first bass in decades that's taken me more than 2 mins to get the sound I like. . . . but I like it now. IMO there's always a place for good active basses.

. . . . and then there's me, trying to sound like Duck Dunn with the latest and best gear available.

You've just got to know when to stop looking and be happy with what you've got." Past a certain point no one can tell any differences in your sound. Buying gear beyond that point is just faffing about. I reached that point when I bought my Precision and my Marshall stack over 40 years ago. I have owned 11 basses in 50 years and 4 of those I've bought in the last 4 years. I really should listen to my own advice.

You might [i]think[/i] you like the Stingray but if you don't like the sound of one, maybe you don't. Trying to buy your way out of a problem might work but usually doesn't. I've played in bands where one bass sounded great and another didn't. That's how it goes sometimes. You've currently got a bass that you like, and as you're happy with it, I'd stick with that. IMO you can do better with your rig (as I've posted in your other thread) but I wouldn't bother trying to buy amps and cabs for a bass that doesn't work for you. I'd focus on upgrading your rig so your current bass sounds even better.

I don't know how the Ampeg amp will work with the Markbass cab but in comparison to OP's current cab, that amp used with the Bergantino HD210 on Bassdirect would be a 1000% improvement. A 210 from Barefaced should be another level of improvement and, in comparison to the Ampeg 210, a 212 from Barefaced would be a quantum leap of improvement in volume and tone.
