1. That's the cross for having a famous parent or sibling. Unrealistic comparisons.
2. Groove Collective and Jonathan Maron. I love these guys.
3.
https://www.youtube....h?v=nhBzjIxHwvc
It worked for me.
4.
Ringo Starr miles ahead of Steve Gadd? Can't be right!
At least they are both there. . . as is Earl Palmer and Levon Helm. There are some puzzling inclusions, Mrs White Stripes for instance (in the 100 greatest drummer list. Really?) but I can live with that because they've included the fantastic Ritchie Hayward, legendary Bernard Purdie, the marvellous Freddie Below and the essential southern soul drummers Al Jackson Jr and Roger Hawkins. Looks like a good list to me.
5. IMO anyone who can come up with music like this can look as pleased and arrogant as he likes.
6. I'd disagree with the numbering and some of the drummers listed, but many (or more than I was expecting) of the greats are there.
7.
What is it about the look that people seem to dislike so much about the BF's?
Don't believe that the word "people" represents a big number. The percentage of people who have heard BF cabs and still dislike them is very small.
8. Stop bickering, everyone!! Start posting some good grooves.
9. A direct descendent from Booker T and the MG's and The Meters.
10.
Super twins are very loud. You'd be wasting your money on the rumble 410.
+1000 I used 2 SC's tonight in a very, very loud band and they didn't break a sweat. If you want something louder get a Big Twin 2. A Rumble cab is way out of its depth in this company.
11. Whatever volume your Trace cabs were putting out will easily be bettered by a Barefaced Super Twin and the Big Twin 2 will blow them out of the water. The Super Twin is only a bit larger than a 210 so could also cover any smaller gigs. The only issue is. . . will you like the sound of any new cab you buy. With BF cabs your tone will be clearer, deeper and fuller. You'll easily cut through the mix. I don't know of any one who hasn't impressed the band when they've switched to BF cabs. Your safety net is that you get to return the cab within a month if you're not happy.
12. Try it. You only need a lead and a good pair of ears. In theory your plan can work, but there could be downsides. You might get problems balancing the sound with the bass coming out of 2 places. IMO the more you put through the PA the more you'll need someone out front to balance the sound.
13. Is the Eden a loud 500 watts? My TH500 is very loud. . . . IMO it's a louder 500 watts than the Eden and it seems to be easily as loud as the 800 watt Mesa D800. Anyway, I'd change the amp first. More cab will sound better but that doesn't seem like it's the issue at the moment.
14. The ROH as the employer has a duty of care. Simple really.
15. I know a guitarist who (about 15 years ago) successfully sued Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group because of hearing damage caused by the band on one of his west end shows. Also, a few years ago, the BBC was looking at earplugs for members of its various Orchestras because of hearing damage (and I suppose, the possibility of being sued).
16. Ingenious solution. I'd go for a semi acoustic bass and a waist strap. I saw John Patitucci with Chick Corea's Elektric Band playing a bass fixed on a stand so there must be something like this already on the market.
17. Keb' Mo'. At the Union Chapel in July. Just love that guy's songs and band.
18. These are Barefaced cabs. The 110 "can run at 250 watts all day". I doubt this little cab will be a weak link in any signal chain.
19. The best fretless bass I ever played was a Rob Allen MB2. Simply the best fretless sound I've heard on an electric bass. The Godin or Rob Turner Renaissance basses are pretty good too but IMO the Rob Allen is the best.
20. If you can see the benefits of playing a 5 string bass and can make playing one work for you, I'd go out and get the best one you can afford. I'd recommend you try Mike Lull and Lakland basses. These instruments improved my playing no end.
21. IME 2 SC's sound fuller, fatter and a lot louder. Same as Paul S. . . . I could use 1 for most of my gigs but 2 just sound (and look) better, IMO.
22. I always use my SC's louder than I think I should. I've never been asked to turn down. I played in a beer festival Marquee on Saturday and was asked to turn up. I thought I was loud but the volume out in the audience wasn't. I cranked my Mesa D800 and 2 SC's to 12 o'clock on the gain and master. Apparently it was just right. I'm getting better at finding a balance with my new SC's. They sound very different to my Bergs but I'm getting there.
23. IMO to have "shaped modern music" you have to have achieved more than being a good player or having been in a famous band. Willie Dixon, Paul McCartney, Larry Graham and James Jamerson are the only bass players I know, of either sex, who could claim to have actually shaped modern music.
24. This is happening more and more. I think this only affecting the larger chains. We were told it wasn't about the bands, but their brewery found out that landlords were invoicing them for gigs which had never happened, so this is trying to tighten up on cheating landlords. So far our decision has been to not do these venues but the gig world contracting at the current rate we've decided that it would be stupid to reduce our list of gigs even further. We'll be invoicing where we have to.
