IMO you're endangering the only good ear you've got left.

My TH500 never moves around on my Berg or Barefaced cabs. That's not a good sign if it's happening on your Ampeg cab.

I had 5 mins and it appears I've been waiting in vain for the other 10! These days a good gig is good no matter where it is. The Dog and Duck is fine but a limo and a 30,000 seat arena tour would be better. Just try and make every gig better than the last one and play every gig like you've sold out the Albert Hall. Then go home happy that you've just played the best gig you could.

Buying good gear and looking after it is the best insurance. There will always be single points of failure. Sometimes you need a backup brain. Last week our guitarist left his leads and pedals at home. The week before the drummer forgot his stool.

This is the problem with people not locking their sheds properly. They provide all the tools to allow these scumbags to break into your house as well. I'd ask all neighbours to put good locks on their sheds and use them.

Nothing wrong with D class through a CN212. I'd start by taking the pedal away. That's just messing with your sound, and IMO not in a good way. Then you can start to evaluate the EQ. You get more low mids than flat out bass from a CN212 but that's a good thing. IMO a ton of low bass doesn't sound so good is a band setting. I don't use pedals and I can get enough low mids out of my PJ5~TH500~CN212 to rattle your fillings out.

+1 ER15's have done me well from an on stage whisper to some very, very loud bands. As Lo-E says, unless you're standing next to a real shed builder I would go for the 17's.

ACS moulded plugs are not the cheapest but IMO they are amongst the best. I've been using ACS ER15's for about 9 years now and in that time they have saved my, already pretty compromised, hearing from any more damage. The ACS PRO series also looks like a good range to check out.

If your bass gets damaged in a gig bag, you've bought the wrong one. Cheap thin bags are not much better than a paper bag but get a proper one with full padded protection then it will take deliberate misuse to damage your bass. I have a hard case for all my basses but I only use a leather Harvest gig bag. I'm the only person who carries the bass so my gig bag gives plenty of protection. As an alternative, the Mono M80 Boot looks pretty good to me.

I'd sell what you don't use, or only use infrequently. If you're gigging then I think you need 2 of everything, but my approach is to have fewer pieces of better gear. They usually feel nicer to play and make you sound better. And take up less space!

I'm with Meddle on this. IMO great, creative playing but that Hofner is one of the least pleasant sounding basses on record.

The ACS PRO range seems to be aimed at singers.

Mine is set up as mid level, bass and treble at 1 o'clock and drive and mid freq at 11 o'clock. Gain at 12 and master at 9 or 10. But all that really depends on the band, the bass and cab.

The fan switches on when it's needed.

What else is needed? A great PA and a guy with good ears to mix it.

I've always found that the problems IE's fix are also fixed by using musicians who can play well, play together, get a balance and level and don't act like a bunch of amateurs.

That's explained by "Shadows tribute". I know a band who have decided to move from playing Cream covers to becoming a Cream tribute. This seems to have been achieved by just buying all the right gear. For me (and I suspect the audience) there is no difference except they are each several thousand pounds the poorer. It's interesting to see what successful bands do when they replace an original member. Nile Rogers doesn't require Jerry Barnes to play the exact BE bass parts, Craig Fuller didn't try to copy Lowell George when Little Feat reformed and gong right back to when Peter Green joined John Mayall, he didn't play any Clapton lines at all.

If you make a bass that is so good everyone is falling over themselves to play one then you don't need endorsers to sell them for you.
