1. I get out the Bach Cello Suites when I want to brush up on my reading. So far no one has ever asked me to gig any of that stuff. Very worth while playing though.
2.
The "Elevators", a very cool band name
All the bands that are using it seem to think so too.
3.
All building blocks for when I do play live.
+1 Most of the numbers I play at home I'll never play live, but most of the bass lines, phrases and fingering will get used at one time or another. Always pick numbers you're not used to playing and you're not comfortable playing and work on them until you can play them in your sleep. The best players have the biggest library of ideas under their finger tips.
4. I'd get a Squier P bass and replace the pickup and pots.
5. That's how we do it.
6. Good idea.
7.
Great fingerstyle groove 'Mind On You' from their latest EP 'Sirens' recorded live. IMO back to the simple acid jazz of the early days.
That's what I mean. . . . I like that one.
8.
Hi chris thanks. what are the possible problems, before i search for a techie because they are rare in my area.
YB, I can't think of anything that would be helpful. Where are you based? I know luthiers can use Loctite 222 Screwlock to keep screws in place, which might otherwise vibrate loose. It might stop your truss rod unwinding. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Loctite-Screwlock-Controlled-Torque-10ml/dp/B00M1UDU36
9. This is not normal. Might be a symptom of a bigger problem. I'd get it seen to by a tec.
10.
he was the first person to bring bass all the way to the front as a percussive, driving instrument.
I think Larry Graham beats MK to that title by about 10 years.
11. Is it just me and the gigs I go to, because I rarely see slap bass playing on the pub gig circuit and I haven't seen any slap on the theatre or arena gigs I've been to. I guess the irony is that the most rabid Mark King fans are probably "bedroom" players themselves!! I think Mark King is a great player but I prefer his finger style playing rather than the incessant "bag of spanners in a washing machine" style.
12. I guess it's the one in his signature?
13.
I am biased as I have known Mark since BassDirect was being run from a converted garage in a farmyard (2008),
I bought my first Bergantino cabs from that place. Wasn't it his band's rehearsal space as well. That was a very productive 4 hour round trip for me. Totally changed my playing life.
14. What does "squiffy" mean? +1 for Martin at the Gallery.
15. Trouble is, John, your "old fashioned" gear is as boutique as they come and bears little relation to the any gear produced 20 years ago let alone "back in the day". My old 50 watt Marshall 4x12 is nowhere near as good as my Bergs in any respect. The thought that my old 1x18 Vox Foundation is a match for my Barefaced cabs is a joke.
16. PRS is collected from the promoter not the band. There seems to be a lot of guess work going on here. Contact PRS and get the correct information.
17. A couple of weeks ago we had a dep singer, who bought along a similar PA to the L1, I think it was a MAUI system? Sounded pretty good in a noisy pub in front of a noisy band, but I think they are still very expensive. The keys and bass drum also went through it.
18.
Our singer is dead set against grey plastic boxes,
I think he should buy what looks the best.
19. You haven't been taking your meds again.
20. Your use of brackets makes the post a complicated read. Are you saying the FR800 is a passive cab? Because the FR800 is an active cab.
21. I played with a keys player who used one of these, with 2 bass modules. He sounded fantastic. The only problem I had on small stages was the keys at head height (right by my ear) so I couldn't hear anything else in the band. One show stopping problem he had was when we played in a room with a low ceiling. He couldn't add the top part of the column which caused the whole rig to stop working. . . due to an ohms mismatch I would guess. He had to go through the PA. So good in theory but with several serious shortcomings in less than ideal rooms.
22. You don't want to faff around with 1 speaker lead and 1 amp? IMO you already have the perfect modular rig.
23. Having spent time in close proximity to the education business, about 40 years, these days, a lot of teachers can't spell and don't know their grammar. Last month, in a class taken by a deputy head the kids were asked to come up with rhyming words. One said "smile" and "crocodile". The teacher said "don't be silly that doesn't rhyme"!! True story. I blame league tables for teacher training colleges. Teachers aren't allowed to fail because it's bad for business. [/serious]
24. Ask Alex.
25. Please. Why should the location of the factory will have any bearing on the quality or price of an instrument?
