IMO carpet covering problems on bass cabs is usually down to user error. Put a cover on your cab and you'll have fixed all your issues in one move.

In my experience it's probably not a good idea to be tolerating anything. If something isn't 100% right change it for something that is. I tolerated heavy gear for many years, when I should have been sensible and looked after my back.

I'll play anywhere if the drummer is good.

If they were peeling on the front I'd be worried, fed up etc. Peeling on the back? Am I bovvered?

Have a look at some of the Sadowsky Jazz basses that have come up in the classifieds lately. These are some fantastic instruments and as versatile as you like.

How has playing other instruments helped your bass playing?

I know that over the years not playing double bass has lost me some opportunities and not singing has lost me many, many more. I think playing piano from the start would have helped me be a better all-round musician. -
If you want more, always add cabs. My answer would be to use the 500 watt amp with 2 good 112's.

CB is already on the case. . . .

This guy has a fantastic level of skill, coupled with a high degree of musical ability. He's a fantastic bass player. I'm happy for anyone who can make a living out of playing bass. Good on em.

Nile Rodgers' top lesson : Don't be a music snob

This has been my view from the start. If you can write a song and sell a million copies, then it's a good song. Too may people confuse this with personal preferences. -
I'm currently using a couple of BF One10's but seriously toying with the idea of getting a headphone amp. My music source is the laptop and silent practice would enable me to play later in the evening.

Most of the short scale basses seem to be designed for "small" people. All I want is a short scale. I don't want a small body and I definitely don't want anything less than 18mm string spacing.

Not really. The amount the cone moves will create the SPL, not the size of the cone.

What does your Mezzo weigh? There is one on Amazon and they list it at 12lbs! That must be a printing error, surely. I'm becoming more interested in short scale basses, as long gigs can leave me with aching joints, particularly in my left thumb.

Early Christmas present. The wife will be relieved she doesn't have to rack her brains to think of a present for you.

If you want a smaller BF 212 I'd suggest the SC. A couple of months ago I did a duo gig with my SC and an SM and it was overkill. Just took the SC on the next gig and it was just right.

Love Junior Wells. Great song. My band closed the first set with this for many years. Bass player must be depping. Manages to get the riff by half way!! Been there many times.

The law of diminishing returns, Tonewood and other folly’s
chris_b replied to tegs07's topic in General Discussion
Things have changed. In the 70's I had years when I didn't earn the price of a bass out of my playing. These days I can buy a bass with what I earn on some gigs. -
Since the lockdowns, my gigs have paid between £0 (charity gig after the death of a good friend) and £200. The average is between £80 and £100. The bands I'm in are good and I'm also connected to many guys who put dep gigs my way. I look at gigs as being better than sitting at home. Every one is an opportunity. They get me seen and making contacts. None of the guys I work with go out for peanuts, so if I like the band I usually don't even ask what the fee is. I wouldn't leave over money, unless the bandleader was ripping us off!

I always go for the largest gauge I can find. Currently my TI flats have a .136 B string. My DR's used to be the .130 sets. IMO there's more body in the tone with large strings. I play with a pretty light touch, so tension isn't something I notice much.

I was wondering when that penny would drop.

How good a player do we want to be? If bass playing is more than a hobby then the 10k is a meaningful concept.
