  1. The house band at Fame Studios went down the road and set up the Muscle Shoals Studio. That did pretty well for them.
  2. Funnily enough, all three of my basses are burst, tort and rosewood. Not by intention, it was a happy accident, but one I'm thinking of continuing. I think us burst and tort players are in the minority these days!
  3. Traditionally the bass is the bridge between the rhythm and the chords. There's nothing wrong with that. Tradition is a good thing, but bass doesn't always have to be pigeon holed. If you're any good you make your own boxes and if you are even better you make boxes irrelevant. It's all up to the player.
  4. Ah OK. I had a Two10S and a One10 for awhile. I thought it was a great small footprint rig. Nice sound, enough volume and easy to move around. A couple of years ago I decided to stick with the 12's and sold my Two10's. I still have 2 One10's and was thinking about getting another and resurrecting the idea of the 310. Two of my amps can manage 2.67 ohms, so I might give it a go.
  5. I don't often get FOH but when I do the sound engineer has usually been very good. I can only remember one who wasn't, and he was at a local festival. And I've never had a problem with monitoring or the sound on stage.
  6. More Mooney. Can't get enough of this guy. . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcKGI9KQf6I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPZNkZitX9w
  7. Keb Mo is not limited to one genre. His music covers a wide range of styles. Me and the wife have been to see him at least half a dozen times. I envy you, he's not coming to the UK this trip!!!
  8. "The audience are not coming to hear your bass, they're coming to hear you." Everything in one sentence.
  9. Asked who? I've heard that Barefaced are of the opinion that the 12" and 10" do not mix well.
  10. If you are willing to split, why don't you put up a price for each unit?
  11. I think it's aimed at anyone who hasn't worked out how to get the best bass sound. IMO there are a lot of those around at all ages and levels of playing. The simplest things are always the most effective. Good advice to everyone.
  12. There have been posts where guys have reported their amps falling off the cabs. I guess that's a possibility for any light weight amp. There will probably be some vibration in even the best cab, and that's why I put approx 2" of foam under my amps. I started with my Mesa 400+ (with its 16 something valves) and just carried on through SS and D class. My amps never wander about, so I believe they're not being vibrated, much.
  13. As Bill says, if the cab is vibrating enough to throw the amp off, then you're wasting a lot of energy that should be going into creating your sound. And while I know amps have to pass tests for various levels of vibrations, I treat my amps as delicate things. I wouldn't want any amp I own to be shaken around as much as this. So you need a cab that doesn't waste your tone and volume in this way, and you need a vibration resistant foam between the cab and the amp.
  14. I always choose heavy gauge strings. IMO the heavier the better sound. My D'addario NYXL's are 45 - 130

  16. This is why my heart sinks when people start threads about modding basses!!!!
  17. Some good options in valve and solid state amps.

  19. I've played with his drummer, Craig, many times over the years. Great player.

  21. Just restring it and see how it goes. You won't damage anything. If you are moving from a low B to a high C, you probably won't have to change the nut. The tension of all the strings is within a few lbs of each other, so swapping a B for a C should be OK.
