  1. It stops the strings ringing so he doesn't have to mute the strings during the clever bits.
  2. Do we need effects? All I know is I don't.
  3. Is that a roasted maple neck? What is the spacing at the bridge and the weight please.
  4. For rounds, I used DR Lo-Riders for many years, and sometimes Hi-Beams. After hearing D'Addario NYXL's about 4 years ago I've used those ever since. For flats, I've been on a set of TI's for about 5 years. I had a listen to some La Bella's but couldn't hear enough of a difference to make me change.
  5. 9 mins in, for all those who say sustain isn't important!!
  6. They didn't come out of nowhere. They are standing on the shoulders of 40 years of Funk, Disco, R&B and Soul bands going back to the 60's. That's not a bad thing. I rate this band and the players. JK is pretty irritating, but he's a singer so I guess that's to be expected.
  7. This. I play in several bands and do even more deps, so creating the same audio environment on every stage is a must. I have a rig that can be heard at the back of most rooms and can be DI'ed on larger and outdoor gigs if necessary. IEM's is a level of technology that, in my bass world, is still at the solution looking for a problem stage.
  8. He was/is a fine bass player, and also played on Every Picture Tells A Story. He was on bass in the Savoy Brown Blues Band in 1973.
  9. I don't get FOH much these days so my sound is for everyone. My sound is always for my enjoyment. My playing is for the band and the audience.
  10. The bass player is Gordon Edwards and this is pretty much his style. He formed a band called Stuff with Steve Gadd, Richard T etc. Stuff was filmed at Montreaux. Have a listen. It's a masterclass on under statement and groove.
  11. I guess you had to be there. I wasn't and, apart from Working Man's Dead and American Beauty, I don't really hear much in their noodling that interests me.
  12. Your Ashdown's are rated at 300 watts each. BF rate the Super Twin at 1200 watts, so depending on the amp you use it could certainly go louder, fuller, bassier etc. Is it "better" or worth the extra expense? Only you can decide that. I made my decision 5 years ago, BF's are my cab of choice.
  13. Sad news. We supported them several times in the early 70's. They were a force of nature and Jeez were they loud!
  14. Why? What's wrong with being a one bass person? If it's a good bass and gets the job done, then who needs any more?
  15. It's part of a fiendish Chinese plot to get bass players to turn down!!
  16. Is there a fuel shortage? Watch the semantics, hair splitting and back flips from our politicians. The chairman of the Road Hauliers Association said today, a large amount of the fuel is currently sitting in the distribution centres and petrochemical plants and it's not being delivered to the garages. So the politicians aren't lying, but they are!!
  17. Also listen to Michael Manring. . . .
  18. True, but the ST will do a better job than many, because of it's clarity, dispersion and definition.
  19. When I noticed more tinnitus I upgraded my ACS plugs from ER17's to Pro26's. That's done the trick for now. I am being told at home that the TV is too loud. I guess that's a bad sign!!!
  20. Hi, IMO there are no downsides to an ST. These cabs are clear, clean and punchy. They spread the sound evenly across the stage and through the room. Your band will love it. It won't be too much because you have volume controls. Your RM800 will be purring along nicely.
  21. What does the taper do for the tone? How does it change the sound?
  22. That's happened to me. It's irritating. Mark it down to experience and treat it as a learning experience. Many of those songs have come in handy since. I once charted about 80 songs for a function. The band insisted they wouldn't gig anything less. . . . and they actually played about 20! If you want to be asked back you've just got to put in the hours and be ready for anything.
