The difference in running an amp at 8 ohms and at 4 ohms is marginal. A better cab will get you more volume than worrying about ohms. As you are already a BF owner, if you are running a 210 and want to upgrade, I'd suggest a BF Super Compact. Since buggering up my back again I've been using 1 SC and my 700 watt amp. So that's 350 watts into a 112 and it's loud enough to match a very noisy covers band, 2 guitars, keys and drums.

Don't go into an audition putting yourself or your playing down. Just smile, do your best and let them make all the decisions based on what they hear. not what you tell them.

I was definitely not match fit and my stamina and strength was diminished, but I could play my bass and all the numbers I was asked. I played my bass pretty much every day during Lockdown #1.

Everything about musical instruments and playing them is an evolution. You think you have a "<name instrument here> for life" and then you find a better one or you turn a corner in your playing/technique and your world moves on. Where ever your current bass sits in your world, there will always be a better one out there. That's an opportunity.

I gigged a Musicman HD150 and HD212EV in the 80's. It weighed more than a small planet and, in usual Leo Fender style, had only one strap handle on the top. A 90lb one handed lift? Just poor design. Sounded good but my Dynacord 115 EV combo sounded better. The laws of physics do apply, that's why some modern cabs sound so good. Of course most modern cabs will be "expensive" when compared to a 40 years old cab. But if you are interested in saving your back, the extra cost is well worth it.

Low mids is where the good bass lines live.

If the cabs you're listening to don't do enough low end, you've got to start listening to the cabs that do. They are out there and there is a great selection.

Which head? The 800 Pure looks interesting. Does anyone on BC use one? I use very little EQ from the preamp, just the amps baked in sound, so I'm wondering if my basses will sound good with no EQ at all.

Older Trace stuff is. . . . . well, old! Age has it's own effects on electrical components. The last failure I had was an all valve amp in 1999. Not so much as a sniffle with any SS and D class amps since.

My guess is that a BT2 isn't the cab to use in a punk band. My first Barefaced cab was a BB2. The difference between it and my previous cabs was a shock (mostly the amount of bass response) and I spent all my time trying to tame the bass. I emailed Alex and his reply was, "Why did you buy one of those? I'd have recommended a Super Compact!" I bought the SC and that was it. "My" sound. So buying the right cab is the first lesson. The second lesson is that a new cab won't sound like your old cab. Never does. I have recalibrated my ears and now I have a BB2 that I am happy with. There isn't any boom, but there is way more bass than with many cabs. I don't see that as a down side. If it's too much then Alex has more appropriate cabs available.

What's wrong with the preamp in your amp?

Are both these cabs 8 ohms? Your Orange amp goes down to 4 ohms. That means both cabs have to be 8 ohms. The 115 is 8 ohms, but the only Eden Nemesis 410 I can find is 4 ohms. If that is correct then your cabs combine to be 2.67ohms and that is a mismatch to the amp. Which might be why it's overheating and cutting out. You can either run the 410 on its own or run the 115 with another 8 ohm cab, or you can buy an amp which goes to 2.67 ohms. ps You won't get 1000 watts out of the Eich. That's rated at 1000 watts bridged into 4 ohms, which might be too much for your 410. It has 2 x 500 watt channels so you might be able to plug each cab into its own channel. But this is just shy of £1200. That's not a financially sensible solution to your problem. There are plenty of amps that go to 2.67 ohms for a lot less than £1200. I'd just get another 8 ohm cab.

No. If I play a bass that sounds substantially better than my current bass I'd buy it.

I thought Love Me Do was drummed by Andy White with Ringo on tambourine. IMO Ringo was a very good drummer. He changed the way drums could be played. Listen to all the drummers in the beat groups at the time, they were all playing bog-standard patterns. Ringo started to make his patterns more creative, and, probably helped by the others, came up with some great, different and original drumming.

Just listened to it. Sounds pretty good to me and I'm a Beatles fan. IMO it's a great song.

Is the singer asking for more monitors because the guitarist is too loud? I know a guitarist actually turning down is the ninth wonder of the world, so maybe turn his amp away from the singer.

The cabs were Bergantino AE112's and the amp was an 800 watt Thunderfunk. I used 1 with an acoustic guitarist, 2 with my cover bands and 3 with a very loud blues rock trio. I liked the idea that every cab was a backup to the others. In the end I replace the Bergs with 2 Barefaced Super Compact 112's. Loud and great tone in a very light weight box. These days my go-to amp is an Aguilar AG700, but the Thunderfunk still gets a gig now and then.
