  1. The local festivals, big and small, are all about networking. If the promoters know you, if you have a good reputation, you stand a chance.
  2. Seems like t his is Alex's pet project. An amp with a fully configured preamp is on the way after this.
  3. Hi guys, updating pickups seems to be a thing with Sandbergs. . . . has anyone put in a set of Bartolini Jazz pickups, B-Axis or any other? Cheers
  4. The technique that millions of bass players use, and everyone used before the FT idea came along. Watch any top player and very few of them use FT, so it's obviously not a requirement, it's only one of several options. Many use fixed anchor, just placing their thumb one one spot. I use movable anchor which seems to be popular and is very effective and is just an extension of the 4 string technique. I would recommend techniques that build on existing patterns as being easier and quicker to get to grips with.
  5. Floating thumb is an option not a requirement.
  6. . . . . and you don't take them off, problem solved.
  7. As Bill says, any amp will be OK with any cab, as long as you are listening for the distress signals, but as a lot of people won't know what they are, my advice is be safe and don't risk it. In my loudest band I gig a 700 watt amp into 1400watts of cabs (2 x 112) and have never come close to having problems, with the cabs or the sound.
  8. Another tip. . . . there is no such thing as a 4 string song or bass part. A 5 string bass has exactly the same notes as a 4 but with extra finger placement options, and you have the flexibility of hitting a few lower notes if you feel like it.
  9. So 600 watts into a 300 watt 112 cab? I don't think so. My ROT ratio is 1 amp watt to 2 or more cab watts.
  10. Do you regularly take the strap off? I've had a set of the rubber washers on a bass for over a year and they are still perfect. . . . probably because I never take the strap off. They should last decades.
  11. Some of the best band leaders I've played with have been that.
  12. No Woman No Cry. An encore with a Reggae band, at a party in Reigate. Suffering with my back at the moment so I was playing my 7lb Cort Jazz.
  13. Jack is right, a double strap might help, but really you are not experiencing a comfort issue, you are experiencing a weight issue and straps usually don't fix those sorts of problems. If 5kg is hurting your shoulder you really need to buy a different bass.
  14. I played through another bassists Mark Bass MB250 and a TC 210 cab last night. We both got a great sound.
  15. I believe I had 2 JBL D140's in a Dual Showman cab, many, many years ago. So long ago I can't remember what they sounded like!! Sorry. My Aguilar/Barefaced rigs are warm, clear, clean, very light and as loud as I need in the many different gigs and dep gigs I do. I've used a TH500 for over 10 years, an AG700 for about 8 years and a TH700 for about 4 years. The tone comes from the bass and amp. These cabs are pretty clean and neutral, what goes in comes out, just louder. I'm not sure how that stacks up against your MM cab. I know one person here who couldn't settle on the Barefaced cabs he bought and went back to his Markbass cab. Maybe MB cabs are worth a look? As I said before, you can sound great, but I don't believe you will replicate your old sound with modern gear. ps Barefaced do a 30 day returns policy for a full refund.
  16. I don't buy on a whim. I buy the best I can afford and stick with it. I've played my #1 basses for 26 years, 14 years and finally 13 years.
  17. I don't haggle but I have made offers and I've had people make me offers. That's fair enough. The only issue I've had on BC was one guy who kept coming back to me, trying to knock me down, then trying to haggle over postage. Initially I was flexible but in the end he irritated me so much I told him I wouldn't sell him the bass under any circumstances.
  18. IMO muting issues are over stated and shouldn't be a concern. We all learnt how to mute 4 strings from scratch. Adding an extra string is easy.
  19. I hear most players using low mids rather than a ton of actual bass. That's what the Precision has always done and most players I see are in that ball park. The bass on most records on the radio are in the low mids area. Bass heavy sounds are usually not helpful on a gig to the sound of a band.
  20. . . . . also the RH750 runs down to 2.67 ohms. That means you can add a third 112 which would give you a better sound and adds an extra 400 watts to the equation.
  21. I used an RH750 with 2 Berg 112 cabs, 300 watts each. In spite of the nonsense that surrounded the RH amps they are as loud as their supposed rating. The RH750 is loud and clear, but even in loud bands I never had it above half on the gain and master. My Bergs never missed a beat and that was with a 5 string bass. IMO your MB 112's would be fine.
  22. 1. Buy the best 5er you can find. 2. Put your 4 string bass away and don't touch it until you are fluent in 5. Sorry. Can't count.
  23. How about making this change is stages? Get the new cab first and see where you go from there.
  24. Tried putting mine in the recycling, but the collection guys took them out and left them on the drive! I solved the problem, I don't put new strings on my basses any more. The PJ has flats and the Jazz has a set of NYXL's that have been on a since 2019 and they still sound good, warm and mellow.
  25. I had the 210 EV version of that cab. Jeez. . . it was as heavy as a small planet! And they only give you one handle!! One thing you'll have to accept. . . . your new rig won't sound like your old rig. So your adaptability is key. You'll have to accept that your sound is going to go through a significant change, and after 30 years that might be a hard thing to accept. I decided on a 30lb carry limit when I went lightweight. My Barefaced Super Compact is 22lbs. It's light, loud and puts out a great sound with the right amp. My amps are Aguilar. The TH500 sounds very "vintage". You have plenty of choices and many/most cabs are designed to a much higher standard these days. Good luck.
