1. I might have something suitable. Possibly. I've sent a PM. Based in East Yorkshire by the way.
2. Hope that sign on the wall says 'empty' and not 'numpty' Looking forward to this - Bills designs are just so different to everything else out there. At one stage I was thinking of a Omni 15TB, but tools and talent in short supply. I'm quite happy to sit back now and watch other people build things. Hope it turns out really well.
3.
Some days I use all four. What??
Alternative nerdy answer: 11 dimensional ones.
4. May 2007 - a reply to Tinman regarding tone settings on his Trace combo. I think I'd be asking him the questions now.
5. Class. Tight, effortless and great fun. I think that sums it up.
6. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. Some of the best stuff I've heard you do Mike. Sublime in parts and with great dynamics, tone and phrasing. There's a lovely little run mid-neck coming up to 5 minutes that's so delicately perfect. I think we can now officially say I'm a fan. Roll on payday and I'll look at buying your album.
7. Relieved to hear he's fine.
8.
Found another one! Produced by Paul Gray of The Damned
Is there NOTHING you can't do Bilbo? Sorry, but that goes on my iPod now!
9. There is some really classy stuff on here, from Nige's guitar playing to Bilbo's little surprise. Thisnameistaken, Paul h's stuff, Walman, Urb, EH, Jase Linus27 and Mep, Burritobass, (is this becoming like an Oscars speech ), and Wil - so much variety and talent that show's what a truly versatile bunch we are. OK, I've dug out a couple of older ones from 1982 and 1984 respectively: God Slot - an anti organised religion rant from Sign Language Love and War - involving me having a go at rudimentary slap and string tapping on a fretless, from Sign Language again. And one from a couple of years ago, unfinished as it's bloody hard work - Orcastrated - a go at.... orchestration.
10. So, in summary: Loudspeaker cabinet design is not simple. It is the blending of many and often tightly interrelated attributes to achieve a desired goal. Isolating just one attribute will lead to confusion, as on it's own, and without context, that attribute can sometimes be made to appear to be any one of a large number of things, some of which may give the appearance of being diametrically opposed. Then there's personal preference to throw in to the equation....
11. Right... when I get home tonight, everything stops. The stereo goes on and the kids can starve. I'm going to be sitting back and listening to every one of the samples posted. Can't wait.... What an inspired thread Nigel - we should be looking at releasing a BC compilation Seriously. Proceeds to hosting and maintenance of website and an emergency GAS fund.
12. 1982 seems a popular year: American Express from Sign Language. 2010 Song 5 - from Fear of bicycles. Part of an improv session from a couple of months ago.
13. Also bought the album. Cracking stuff. Snicks.
14. I had an 84 placed in a bridge position fairly close to the bridge, to replace a DiMarzio on my Marathon bass. The slightly darker tone - less emphasis on the high mids - was ideally suited to this position. Just wondering if a mix of 64 at the neck and 84 at the bridge would do it for you? It's definitely worth giving Andy a call - incredibly approachable and helpful fella.
15. I'd be very tempted to stick with Garageband for now. This should possibly be the most immediate plug in and record DAW out there. The last thing you need when beginning is complexity - much of which you won't use or will find time-consuming and ultimately off-putting. Garageband does reward exploration, and it is deceptive in it's simplicity. It does have some depth once you start using a few workarounds. I haven't yet found a compelling reason to upgrade to Logic Express for example, this after years of use and having used a few other DAWS in the past. Having said all this, if Garageband still doesn't fit you personally then there is no point in suffering the pain. Find something that does fit you - there is a reasonably wide choice. REAPER commercial but not too expensive at around £95 Logic Express - around £130 Ardour - freeware and open source Digital Performer - commercial, around £220 MU.LAB Mutools - commercial, €25 or €75 depending on version n-Track Studio - commercial, €65 Traverso DAW - freeware and open source More on here
16.
@shergold that's the cab I'm looking at so would be up for that visit. Hull isn't a hard drive and for the money I would be paying out, it would be worth it. Still I'm wnoaiting on a reply from barefaced as they might recommend something else that suits my amp better. My amp has two power amp channels. 2 x 600w @ 4 ohm so that sounds similar to yours.
PM sent dbass.
17. I've had direct experience of both the Super Twelve (in SuperTwelve T guise) and the Big One. The Big One - immense sound but needs a particularly beefy amplifier to drive it. Something that can deliver 500 or more watts into 8 ohms should be fine. The low end just keeps on giving, with both extension and weight being really impressive, but it's never muddy or boomy. Personally, I'd be looking at something like a Hartke LH1000 to drive it. The Super Twelve T - which I currently have. It doesn't have the immense low frequency output (the really low fundamentals) of the Big One, but is far easier to drive, and makes fewer demands on an amp. Still a very big sound though, and to my ears is preferable in the context of my band. The tweeter is just as silky smooth as the Big One mid unit, but has more extension into the higher treble areas - I use lots of FX and the Super Twelve T suits this a tad better. Again, the bass is never muddy or boomy, and the cab is still capable of churning out those low octave divider notes, just not with the sheer slam that comes with the Big One. The Super Twelve T is however more sensitive and will go louder for the same wattage input - being a 4 ohm cab with two drivers also helps, and it goes louder overall than the Big One. Mine's partnered with an Eden WT550 (500w into 4 ohms) and this seems a pretty good match. Hull is a little more than 50 miles from Nottingham, but if you'd like to try the Super Twelve, I might be able to arrange something.
18.
Hah, cheers! Everyone's so generous! I tend to (try to) avoid trying out gear I can't afford, for obvious reasons
For your convenience I've now instigated a loan block so you can forget all about it.
19. Happy to loan mine out to you for appraisal Cheddatom (or Eskimobassist for that matter if you are interested ) - you'd have to collect and return it though. I'll need it next week but after that I should be able to arrange something. Bit of a way from Stoke though. Northallerton to Hull on the other hand...
20.
Does this switch patches instantly? (unlike the GT-6B)
It does - instantly on any change within a bank or between banks.
21. Garageband is surprisingly versatile even when you start to push it well beyond the basics. For personal stuff I use a Tascam US-122 USB interface, and for band stuff we use a Korg D888 8 track standalone digital recorder. The files this produces are then dumped into Garageband. It all seems to work fine. The Tascam US-122 sound quality is surprisingly good.
22. Compared with some of the fantastic and highly creative boards on here this is nothing but an absolute cheat. Here it is anyway. Got this in a sale about a year ago.
23. I just get a mental image of a rain splattered window, with gloomy clouds outside, and you chilling out on a sofa and sticking up a very relaxed two fingers to the weather as you lay down a few tracks. I have to say that hearing that has cheered me up.
24.
I think we all worked that out thanks...
Sorry, I've been talking to a lot of guitarists recently.
25. The old relic: The obligatory cracked finish and a good sprinkling of dust when this was taken. The DiMarzio bridge pickup has since been replaced with a black Wizard.
