Basses that you've never wanted to own.
Fuzzbass2000 replied to Marvin's topic in General Discussion
sigh, you should never, NEVER have more knobs than strings.
One knob is all you should ever need. -
Great service when buying a thumbrest!

They're great - and yes, they are much much nicer than the plastic Fender replacement part....in fact I just ordered another one earlier today as well (one of the low profile rests). Highly recommended. -
I did ONE gig with as drum machine many, many moons ago. Thesound quality wasn't an issue, but the other musicians were hopeless at playing with a click. Part of that problem was probably due to inadequate stage monitoring - get that right and you should be ok. I'd definitely go with the programmed laptop beats - stuff like EZdrummer can sound very close to live drummers - except in time.
I've got an occasional thing that uses backing tracks (drum parts recorded from Drumsite and bass parts recorded by me ). Because you've got a lot less going on behind you, the guitars could be a lot quieter..... but inevitably they're not (cos they don't sound the same)... so decent, and lots of it, monitoring is great for keeping everything together.

Checking the truss rod "ettiquette"?

Checking the truss rod "ettiquette"?
Fuzzbass2000 replied to Fuzzbass2000's topic in General Discussion
If I was the seller then I would be ok with the request, but I'd be the one doing the dismantling and testing. It's still mine until the money changes hands after all.
I have a feeling that the seller probably wouldn't want to / know how to do this themself
Interesting one. Is it a proper vintage (as in old, not the budget make) bass? If so, taking at apart to get as much provenance as possible seems reasonable, to me at least!
It's "new" (mid 2000s ) vintage - so not super old - but still enough cash for me not to want to throw money away. -
I'm looking at a bass at the weekend with a view to buying.. It's a private sale, and I don't think the seller is on these forums (hard to believe eh!). One of the things I'd like to make sure of is that the truss rod's works ok. It's one of the old style "loosen the bolts and pop the neck" Fenders - which can be a bit dauunting to someone who has not done that (I'm comfortable with it). Is it appropriate to do this.... would you be ok if a potential buyer wanted to do this in a private sale? Which then led me to the question, would you do the same in a shop? I know what I want to do, but am curious of others opinions.. Cheers

Fender American Original/Vintage Precision Pickups?
Fuzzbass2000 replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
They're fab - seem to be really influenced by where you play the note. I bought then after trying some Quarter Pounders for a bit - they were good (thumpy), but just seem to be lacking a little "air" in the note... if that makes sense. The Fender pups have more zing, and I'd use them again if I had to. -
*SOLD* - Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar

For sale: Black and Tort ("1977") Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar - 14 months-ish old Great instrument for the money and has had the pots upgraded to CTS pots (orginal pots were prone to twisting free) It's been gigged lightly so some surface scratches (probably polish them out) - one small dent on the back of the neck around the 10th fret. Doesn't impair playing one bit - but see pics if you're not sure. £190 + shipping Selling to fund the purchase of a(nother) Pbass (one in, one out!) Cheers

Which bassline inspired you to pick up the bass?
Fuzzbass2000 replied to skej21's topic in General Discussion
Blitzkreig Bop (....well actually the whole of the first LP). But +1 for Love Song.... a damned fine bass intro. -
Once played in gig in Brighton on a stage made from a couple or three pool tables covered and pushed together.

Fender (aka D'addario) 7250m. Roto Swing Bass 66 sometimes, Mainly the E & A....

Maybe we need a new thread.... "Post Your 12 Bar Pics"..... Barnet would love it!
You don't need a wireless rig to reach the balcony - a good leap with a 20' lead is sufficient. BTW we're playing there again on March 9th for anyone who wants to catch some swinging from beams mayhem!
I can't jump that far.... end up having to use the stairs. Bonnie & Clydes on the 9th @ 12 Bar? See you then!
-
+1 for the 12 Bar. A stage so small, that it actually makes sense to use a wireless rig.... so that you can stand up in the balcony! That aside, I've never had a bad bass sound in the place.

Here's me - 2001 MIA Butterscotch P & mid 90's CIJ Olympic White + Jazz Neck. For some reason I always think of fried eggs when I see these two together.

An absolutely essential musical "reboot" Nothing wrong with what went before (loads of marvellous stuff), but sometimes you've got to hit the reset button to get some context. Learned to play to the first Ramones LP (turn the left hand side down and you can be Dee Dee too), still get a kick out of the bass intros to Neat Neat Neat. Love Song... love the bass playing on the 1st Rezillos Album and Matlock's playing on sp**k,

Steve bought my CIJ Pbass Neck. Super-fast, painless transaction. Wish I had a few more necks to sell :-)! Zig
