1. It's well worth trying Gumtree - my personal approach is to sell "locally" for cash.... but have also done PayPal transactions on there. Fascinated to see if you can transact this for Bitcoin though.... I think that might be a first in these parts!
2. Tried both - The Fender '62 and the Qtr Pounders are different pickups, If you want a more traditional sound, go with the Fenders - they're fine pickups with plenty or "air" in the sound. Sound especially nice when you play with your fingers. Qtr Pounders - also fine pups - are more aggressive sounding with more output. Not as articulate as the Fender's but still big, soild sounding pickups. If you can find some Fralins, they'all also sound grand. The are lots of options out there, but some of it'll come down to what you play and if you buy and sell on here it shouldn't be too hard to try them both and move on the one you don't want.
3. Slightly off topic, but here goes.... I'm always curious the effect these changes have on neck mass and the appearance / movement / disappearance of dead spots (kind of FatFinger in reverse) and the impact on the sound (if any) on an instrument.
4. Bought his Lindy Fralin precision pups. Great comms and swift despatch. No probs doing business again.
5. Watched the season ... spent the entire show gear spotting... sad eh! Wasn't at all sure about that red and black bass that seemed to feature prominently early on, but the instruments seemed to get more interesting as the show progressed... and probably closer to my taste :-)
6.
Does anyone know of a decent place I can go to try out a few basses, and make a purchase if I find one I like? I'd like to take my own strap. Somewhere accessible by train would be great. I have a budget of MAX £700
Wunjos (Bass Shop) on Denmark Street are full of very helpful people.... if you fancy a trip South. Might be worth giving them a call first to see what stock they have in (but hey do normally have lots of stuff... but no new Gibsons though if that's a consideration).
7. That's very nice.
8. For some reason I was expecting to see a thread about some new fangled pickups called "bass cakes".... but no, it's really basses, made out of real cake. Yum. But,which one's best for metal ... a Black Forest Gateaux or something heavier, like a Hewa Cake....?
9. I found that with all the other noise that goes on when you're running, expensive headphones can be overkill. These are inexpensive, reasonable quality, and easily replaceable if they fall apart through wear and tear. Creative EP-630 If you want to spend a bit more on something a bit nicer with the same earbud design, these are also good - and they have an asymmetric cable, so one of the leads goes behind your neck - which can be useful if you need to take them out, but don't want the buds flapping about all over the place. They're also pretty easy to drive. Sennheiser
10. That is a great colour.
11. If the deal for the Fralins falls through, I'll take 'em.
12. .... also does anyone know when Line 6 started making them with meal jacks?
13. Hi - looking at one of these 2nd hand as a wireless option. Heard that there might be some problems with the input jack on the transmitter... apparently there are some plastic parts on earlier models that fall apart in time. Newer ones are metal. Can anyone point me at what I need to look for to make sure it's one of the newer ones ... is it the top nut or maybe the inner workings of the input jack? A picture of a new / good one would be really helpful. Unfortunatetly I don't have access to the device itself - everything is done remotely. I've heard that Line 6 will do a warranty repair on these to upgrade the problem - has anyone had any experience of this? New or 2nd hand. Cheers
14. Bugbears.... support (and headline!) bands turning up with no back-line, expecting that someone else will supply theirs... not contacting anyone before-hand to try and arrange something... not being told thank-you when they've snookered you into using your gear..... not helping to shift gear in out of the venue when using someone else's gear... not muting the volume when plugging in and out (when there's a perfectly reasonable switch that does the job)... but the worst.... being shown the active and passive inputs, sound-checking with the passive inputs and then deliberately swapping inputs (for more volume) when the lead had been left in the right input for an active bass.... Bring the tools you need to do your job or agree something before hand.
15.
It's a piece of wood that's the same shape as millions of other pieces of wood. Paint the headstock and prosper!
This. And enjoy it.
16. That didn't take long!
17.
What do these weigh?
Mine comes in @ around 9lbs

19. It's a great package. Nitro body... slightly narrower width neck than a normal modern precision, but shallower so the "circumference" is much the same a Jazz. SD 1/4 pounders with no logo... tastefully worn as opposed to reliced body (they come with Road Worn series tags). Not too heavy.. not too light. 70's logo. Tinted neck (although I think that's poly not nitro... can't make my mind up about this). Cool Foo Fighters neck plate as well as normal Fender one.... there's lot to love. Only odd thing was mine arrived with strap lock buttons fitted, but not the other bit you put on your guitar strap.
20. No hard case (Levy's gig bag). Strap attached. Rest of the gubbins in a rucksack.
21. A tricky situation... an interesting set of discussions (and diversions) and a happy ending - not quite up there with the Talkbass "Shell Pink 1962 Jazz Bass" episode... but still, what more could you ask for. Well done to everyone involved - especially the BC members responsible for getting an amicable resolution.
22. Ramones The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
23. Might be talking at cross purposes here... for sure there are OW + RW 70s (PB70) Fender Japan p-basses which they've been making since the mid 90s. One of mine's got the body of one. but then a couple of years or so back Fender US issued a 70s p-bass (Classic Series) which came in TSB / OW + Maple + Blocks. Think the original run was Japanese and then it looks like they switched to Mexico. http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 Good old Fender.. too many models
24. I thought the design on the Japanese ones and the Mexican ones was the same (i.e. the OW and the TSB both had maple necks + blocks) - they just swapped where they were produced from at some point last year. That being said, when I tried a few, the Japanese ones felt different from the Mexican ones... not better, just different - but that could have just been down to variance in the set up.
