With figuring out Reaper, I found that YouTube is the friend who will quickly teach you the ropes. I'm still learning myself... but found it useful to record in takes on one track, and then once I'm done I can do comps on those takes, and/or use a command to expand all of those takes into separate tracks.

With the lockdown era here, I've been doing a lot more home recording. I am now looking into a pair of home studio monitors and thought about the Adam A7X. I was actually thinking about picking up a pair second-hand, however it seems that the A7X is prone to blowing fuses? I'm wondering if others here have had some experience with these speakers. I certainly wouldn't want to pick up a problematic pair that are no longer under warranty!

Recommendations for best cable to use with your bass?
tvickey posted a topic in Accessories and Misc
I'm disappointed with the cable brand that I'm currently using with my bass (turned out not to be robust and now gives a crackle occasionally when I move around). I'm wondering: What is the best cable out there? Looking for recommendations... low noise and long-lasting! -

Thanks a lot for your very quick, detailed and helpful reply @Dad3353. I managed to pick up a used m160 very recently for a good price. So... I've added this to my collection and am experimenting a bit with different mics on my bass cab (other mics in the arsenal at the moment are: SM57, AKG D112, MD-421 and Lewitt 640 REX). The plan for the m160 in my collection would mostly be for acoustic and electrical guitar (SM57 + m160 is a great sound!), but given the nearly flat response of this mic across the frequency range, I want to give a go at using it on my bass cab in my home studio too. Googling around a bit, the pop screen the kept getting mentioned was this one from Pete's Place: http://petesplaceaudio.com/blast-pad-mic-pop-screen Of course it's not cheap... but neither is getting a ribbon mic repaired!
-
Does anyone have good blast pad / pop screen recommendations for using together with a Beyerdynamic M160 microphone on a bass amp? This is a ribbon mic... so definitely needs to be coupled together with a good blast pad or pop screen.

My band made a music video while in lockdown, all of it shot using our phones. Audio track was recorded in Sheffield earlier this year. Check it out!

My neighbor and I worked out a quick trade of packages, while maintaining social distancing. We're both much happier now. I did an A-B comparison with this little Radial J48 and the DI out of my GK MB Fusion 500... man, this little box is really sensitive. I had to hit the -15 dB in order to get the input to the preamp down to a reasonable level (using an active Ibanez bass). Sounds really good though... picked it up used off of eBay.
-
So I ordered a Radial J48 DI box off of the Internet... look what the postman delivered instead. I can only assume that there was some serious mix-up at the postoffice. The Radial is actually for my guitarist to use (my bass amp has a DI). I suspect that my guitarist will not be too pleased with these slippers. Similarly, the woman who ordered these pink slippers is probably not too pleased with her new Radial J48 DI box!

Thanks, that's very helpful. I'm thinking about the Radial X-Amp. It also takes XLR, but my Focusrite Scarlett unit has balanced 1/4" output... so I simply need a 1/4" to XLR cable.
-
@adamg67 what reamping box do you have? I'm looking for one that works well with bass... and ideally takes a 1/4" input since that is what comes out of my little Focusrite Scarlett recording unit. Thanks!

One of the new tracks that we recorded in the studio just aired on the New Music Saturday Show. Bass was an LX4 Warwick Streamer (the custom-made black stealth) into a GK Legacy 800 head. Have a listen via the link below. The track is 'Ground Down' by Before They Are Hanged and starts at 140:01 (scroll down and you can jump into the podcast right where the track starts): https://www.spreaker.com/user/4524520/new-music-saturday-nms-dr-bones-mikefive_4

NRD (New Rig Day) Mesa Boogie Strategy & Two Mesa 4x10 Cabs.

BTW @Beedster: Do your two cabinets stack okay? Corners on yours also don't look like they are built to interlock. -

Oh wow... Yeah, I'm concerned about this now... for example, if I order one 1x15" and a 4x10" from GuitarGuitar. I've asked them to confirm that the faces look the same! -

Just out of curiosity, how did you discover which is which? Was it due to the dimensions in addition to the cones? There seem to be some very minor differences according to the website... 1/8 of an inch in height Mesa Powerhouse Standard (metal grille): 410 25 1/8 H 24 1/2 W 19 3/4 D Mesa Powerhouse Traditional (fabric front): 410 25 H 24 1/2 W 19 1/2 D -

Okay, so GuitarGuitar claim that the 1x15" are 400 W at 8 Ohms. This would match the specs on the Mesa website for the "Standard" Powerhouse, but simply have a fabric rather than metal grille. -

Thanks for the comments. Sounds like a hodgepodge of Mesa bits! I was looking for a 400 W 1x15" but one that is cheaper than the Mesa Subway price! -

Thanks. So is "Vintage" the same as "Standard", but simply with a different face (fabric in the former, metal grille in the latter)? If that is the case, then it looks like 400 W at 8 Ohms. -

Indeed... that's why I'm trying to find the specs for the Vintage Powerhouse. Thanks! -

Would you happen to know what the power and impedance rating of the 1x15" is? I can't find 'Vintage' on the Mesa website... just "traditional". GuitarGuitar website says 600 Watts for the 1x15" Vintage, but that doesn't match with the Mesa website for "traditional" (which they say is 300 Watts). -

Also, do these cabinets stack well? Looks like they don't really have any kind of interlocking corners.
