Soemone I know did a gig with Paul Dianno years after his IM days. He said he saw a roadie lacing him into a corset minutes before going on.
That wasn't Paul Dianno - that was me !
I'm trying to envisage whether he would buy you another pint for having the bottle to say this to his face or whether he'd tell you to sod off. In my head he would laugh and order you another Guiness
Seriously - The first time I saw I M , Steve sang because their singer at the time , Paul Dianno , had a bad throat. When I met Steve after a gig at which Paul sang a couple of months later I told him they should get rid of him because he (Steve) had done a better job and that they were sh*te with Paul. The look he gave Dave Murray and some mangement bloke with them tells me this was not news to the band.

Steve Harris bought me a pint of Guiness once - Oh yes , like brothers me and my mate Steve !! If it's Iron Maiden beer I expect it'll pretend to be heavier than it is , be consistently average , cost more than it's worth and already be past it's sell by date.

I have a great old Ovation Legend 6 string bowl back electro acoustic from 1976 in Tobacco Red. Gold parts. 63 gold parts , actually because I stripped them off and cleaned every one of the little bastards last night - with my failing eyesight too...anyway - I got it cheap - £200 in Ovation hard case - which when I got it in 1990 was a fair old bargain. It was worth a lot more then , now it's probably worth about what I paid again because the newer , cheaper ones with much better electrics rule the world. So - as I'm cleaning the poor old thing up 2 issues present themselves - I submit said issues for your comments. 1) There's nasty fingernail damage to the fretboard for the first 3 frets. At one point I had it filled by some freakin' shylock that used his own ear wax I think but it looks a bugger and I want to goge it out and start again. Any ideas for cheap , easy ebony repairs ? 2) When I showed it to Tutankamen's Dad he mentioned how the electric/pickup system was a bit old fashioned - I'm wondering if I should attempt to clean it up and keep it going to retain the guitar's originality or to retro fit a modern Ovation preamp system in - that would at least require making a fag packetish szed hole in the top of the bowl but how hard can it be ? So - leave or update , and any tips on the latter ? Oh - and if I do decide to rag the guts out and install a new preamp - any ideas for filling the 3 little holes in the bowl that will result (the biggest would be where the standard size vol. pot comes through.
I'm no Scummer I live on the right side of 'Ampshire
I've seen the sort of amoeba that frequents Copnor and North End - and the capital 'A' after an apostrophe is a bit of an own goal , so if you're gonna make a statement like that - prove it. 1) How big's your telly and did you get it from Brighthouse ? 2) When you sign on do you leave a can of Ace lager on the wall outside til you've done? 3) Is your dog called Tyson ? 4) Do you think 'Shamless' airs on the Discovery Channel 5) When ram raiding the local offy - are you so thick that you used your own car? 6) Are your sister's children called 'Bobba' , 'Dobba' , 'Wayne' , 'Shazza' , 'Mohamed ' , ' Leroy' , Jadwiga' and 'Abajomi ' - and does she only know who 5 of the fathers are ?

No tatts - won't drink from cans - wouldn't go to a BBQ if you paid me - won't wear joggers outside - never worn a baseball cap - won't buy pizza - TV less than 40" - won't eat a pasty in the street - no jewellry ever .......... I'm duly reporting all you scummers to the DWP.

Get something like a reliable , mid price job ( I use the GK MB series) that doesn;t break your back and transports easily - and have a holiday or some other life experience. with the rest of the grand. It's just a black box with knobs on whatever you get - sound is such a subjective thing anyway and the williams wouldn't know the difference between a hi fi sound that cost you a fortune and a kick in the nads.
-
It looks as good as new , works like it should and comes - sent to you free in the UK - in the box it was bought in. Not interested in trades because I don't want anything - it'd just be more stuff to carry around. No pic for a couple of days because Mrs D's buggered off on holiday and taken my Nikon - but I'm sure you know what they look like and if I was going to lie about it I'd tell a better one than this. Note - if you wish me to refer to the bloody thing as 'awesome' - it will be five quid more. And if you're a student it is too unless you're doing a proper degree and not 'Disney Studies' or something - but OAP's can have it for £40 so long as they can prove it by bleating on about the nearest city centre having been 'all trees' when they were younger. Posted a soon as I get the money unless there's a queue in the PO. I don't queue.

headless bass....I keep getting lost....am I loosing my head?
Dr.Dave replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
Had two - loved both - no issues of this nature whatsoever. I'm quessing but this could be mind game. Reading your witty intro re. the 80s vibe etc I think you could have an underlying reason to find a problem that doesn't really exist. Jack's are great basses - forget about the headless thing and just enjoy yours. -
I bought an orange tool bag from Wilkinson (own brand). Tough , handles and a strap , and because of the colour it's easy to find in the dark trailer and less easy to blend into a venue and be forgotten. I was going to replace the 'wilkinson' logo with a GK one but instead , for a laugh , have stuck 'Wilkinson' logos on my GK combo and cab ! Here's the current one on sale http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/tool-kits-tool-bags+tool-boxes/wilko-toolbag-with-solid-base-orangeblack-16in/invt/0244519 It's the same except mine has more orange than black and , as I recall , was two quid cheaper than this one.

Cleaning Satin finished necks and fretboard
Dr.Dave replied to ZenBasses's topic in General Discussion
Do you not find it makes satin finshes go gloss? I did on one of mine, but I suppose it depends on what kind of finish it is.
Not sure I've ever had a satin finish neck Stu - which begs the question as to why I replied to this thread , the answer being I didn't read the OP properly ! -
Cleaning Satin finished necks and fretboard
Dr.Dave replied to ZenBasses's topic in General Discussion
I clean my necks with with Brasso , which is just watered down T-Cut really , and use Lemon oil on the fretboards (not maple fretboards - they get brasso too) In fact I use Brasso for everything except Rosewood/Ebony fingerboards. Body - chrome - brass - pickguard etc etc -
Not all it's cracked up to be - limited in it's usefulness - overated - too expensive - lightweight really - looks a bit odd close up - much better tools available Yep - naming folk after basses certainly seems apt for Warwick Davis.
-
Not sure what sort of williams or marys it's aimed at. It won't do much for the bearded rock pub types who won't know most of it - neither will it please a more indie venue. But you know your venues better than I and if you think it'll fit there - or are prepared to hunt down venues where it will - go for it.
You Northerners don't know how good you've got it...
Yes we do - that's exactly the point. We know how expensive beer is further south and we also know how good a product southern beer is. What anyone actually pays for a pint is relative to the area. I'm well aware some of you poor sods pay £3.50 or more a pint regularly but what if you were asked to pay a fiver? Same here - we can get a really good real ale in any town for £2.60 - maybe a little less. So being asked to pay £3.10 BY YOUR EMPLOYERS is a piss take. A fish fork up the starfish to the lot of them.

Ex- Working Men's Club - though it's been a while since any of the bone idle bastards I spoke to actually worked ! Beer was dreadful too - 'Smooth'. Not even beer as I know it. Absolute shithole full of scumbags , won't be going back. On;y 2 things have cheered me about it - 1st , I'm buying a Vox Valvtronix guitar amp with the doh ray me I earned and 2nd , the looks on their faces when I introduced the band - Rod as an undercover drugs squad officer , Mart as a CSA assessor and myself as a benefit fraud investigator. Deep joy !

LED side Fret Markers for dark stages .....??
Dr.Dave replied to Mark_ii's topic in General Discussion
Had them built into my Shuker - very useful . I don't have front dots at all. Bonus - if you do festival type things or other outdoor work in the summer months , like I do , they're helpful when the sun's in your eyes too. -
The Owl - Rodley (outskirts of Leeds) £3.10 a pint - thieving ***** - so it was sh*t for that reason and I'll never go back.
I can get a natural blonde in Aldi ?!!
That's how I got barred from Aldi..... mind you , I was checking the collar and cuffs matched.
But you didn't? Amateur!!!
Well , I didn't do all of those things.... dog lover rather than amateur !

Yep - same precision. A 73 I bought used in 78 - though it stays home on grounds of being too precious for most of the drunken ballsack-filled Marys I get to play in and I use the Jap Blueflower. Same jeans too for that matter !

He looks like the sort of tosser who pretends to be a wild child at the gates of oblivion but then goes out to work as a bank clerk. As far back as 1982 I was at least making an effort to look as if I'd come round your house , throw up on your carpet , eat the contents of your freezer as a milk shake and f*** your dog.
-
A lot of the stuff you do is one guitar music - just carry on with it. I always think a 2nd guitar in a small venue like a pub muddys the sound anyway - and 90% of 2nd guitarists I see in pub bands appear to be just somebody elses mate that they couldn't leave out of the band even though they're just playing what the other guitarist is playing but slightly worse. Passengers - f77k 'em.
My favourite album is Dark Days In Paradise, I feel that this more than any other of his albums is him just doing what ever the hell he wants rather than trying to fit into some genre. Has some great bass playing by Guy Pratt on it too . In fact I would go as far as to say that "like angels" is his best ever song (and the bass playing is to die for).
Earlier I was going to mention my admiration for Gary re. him making best use of quite an average voice , doubtless by effort and practise. The track you flagged up isn't one I'd even heard before but illustrates that perfectly. And yes , it is nice to hear this great , gendre free song. The bass playing's over busy to me though - crying out for a fretless.
