Bloody hell - what was I thinking? In my (paper thin) defence I tend to think of him as being part of the Fleetwood Mac that died soon after he took his chemically-induced sabbatical.
I'm a big fan of the phoenix too. Never understood this 'blues band gone wrong' thing. It should be 'blues band gone different'. Besides - I can't think of a guitar player I'd rather go see than Mr Buckingham. The most underated guitar hero ever.
I think you have written Peter Green off a bit too early, he's still alive.
Most of Peter Green died at a toffs acid party in Munich in the late 1960s.
Aww thank god. I thought i was the only one who thinks like this. I pay respects to peoples birthdays not their date of death. My mum included
Me too. I had my folk's names put in the book of rememberance on the date of their birthdays. Who gives a sh*t about the day they died. Think it's a little diffrent with celebs though - we tend to get the day they bought the farm on the news and in the papers rather than their birthdays. I've never had a text gag on a celeb's birthday !! Plus the OP contains the date that Gary entered the world as well as the day he threw a seven , so Barney's asking us to recall a full life rather then just the end of it.

Saw Gary a few times. I'm never sure whether his Blues albums should come under the headig of 'innovative' or 'bandwagon jumping' but there's no doubt they inspired many , many players to listen to Blues music , and to Blues guitarists that may have faded into relative obscurity. Incredible technical player with a lot of feel - shame his later audiences seemed to be just musicians with their notebooks out though. His band made one of the worst howlers I've ever heard at a big gig when supporting B B King in Sheffield. Completely cocked up the ebd of one song. Still - I shall continue to enjoy his music while not elevating him quite to the ranks of a Clapton or a Green.

What's In Your Hardcase.....Strap Attached?
Dr.Dave replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
Gig bag for me And inside it along with the bass are - 2 packs of old boiled strings 1 multi coloured furry strap with dunlop locks on it A stiff T shirt that's been there for at least 18 months 1 pink tambourine 2 PP3s , neither of which work What I thought was a printed off set list but turned out to be a permit to work on a roof using arrester gear and - most important.... A WKD promotional pair of flashing specs -
They're only £2.25 in Wilkos but slightly smaller at 32l.

Duck and Drake in Leeds. The management insisted we work back from an 11.30 finish. At half time punters were asking what time we were going back on becaise they had busses oir trains to catch home around 11. I told the management and suggested we go straight back on but they were having none of it. Why on earth they think that in this day and age folk will stay for 1 extra pint then spend £20 on a taxi instead of the bus/train I don't know. The result was that we opened the second set to a packed house at 10 30 and ended it to a half full one and hour later.
Go for it, you only live once.
What if you play football for Bolton Wanderers ?
I think I'd quite like to hear that.
We end it by turning into 'Shout' too - by which time I'm usually in the audience dancing around half cut with the drummers - his son gets up on the drums - and the stage is covered in punters - the curvy and hopefully loose kind - doing backing vocals. Why not - it's my night out too !!!
10/10 for 'Lonely Boy'! Then immediately0/10 for 'Mustang Sally'!! C'maan!! Mustang Sally? Mustang Sally? NOOOOOO!!!! *Hides in the current mrs discreet's knicker cupboard to avoid tirade about why Mustang Sally is punter's favourite and should be played because that's what the public wants, etc.*
Funnily eough we do both tunes - at either end of the 2nd set. And no backlash from me re.Mustang Sally. We play it because we like to , not because it's what anyone else wants. We just play it like it wipes its arse on its own underpants.
-
You say they are both good so I'd pick the sexy one. Not because I want to go round with a semi on but because the novelty will get you work.
-
Having read the set list I prefer the singer's choices. And that alters my previous comments not one jot. It's your band , he chose to join and my musical tastes don't matter.
Compromise
I understand and respect that opinion totally. But there are so many compromises in life generally that we are almost forced to take part in that I feel that our music is one of the few things we earn the right to be black and white about. Shades of grey is an over hyped book - ironic , but those who can't have what they really want are it's biggest fans. There is enough grey as it is - and compromise , by definition , means that nobody gets what they want.
-
Turn it round. Point out that it was he who joined your band knowing full well what you played - and though you welcome his new ideas and input and will incorporate them as you would your own , on any subject - not just song choice , if he thinks he can walk in and run the show overnight he can f**k right off. He may well chuck his hair gel out of his man bag but that's his problem. Then the rest of you get practising singing and share vocal duties. Bit off effort = more money and no tosser.

OK - you started the Clash song analogy so let's continue it properly. If I go there will be trouble - if I stay there will be double. Possibly the daftest song lyric ever because , from studying it to no great depth - the obvious answer is to go. Making it a pretty pointless question in the first place because it already contains the answer - therefore also making the song pointless. And making it equally pointless for you to stay in a situation you're not happy with which will only get worse. Away from it you can reorganise along 'fresh start' lines. BTW - someone telling you your sound is 'too tight' ............... does he like hospital food or what ?

Wishbone Ash, trip down memory lane soon.
Dr.Dave replied to tonybassplayer's topic in General Discussion
I was on the same bill as the Andy Powell version in Cleethorpes years ago. They were very , very good. The original and best of the twin lead bands. It's also several years since I made the Burnley Blues festival and the few times I've been it's been to play there. If we're not gigging I might try and make this one myself. Update - you've got me going now , just listened to Cosmic Jazz on youtube and I might buy the download. More to the point I might see if it'll go in the set ! -
... cos the fella making that bass bought a bridge pup by mistake and had to fit it in somehow
That may well be true - luthiers have to be practical like anyone else. When Jon was making mine I asked about the advantages of the individual brodge/saddle pieces - he gave me the theoretical blurb then said the real reason he uses them is it doesn't matter if a customer wants a 4 , 5 or 6 string - he just puts his hand in the box and fishes out the correct number without the need to keep tons of different bridges in stock !

LED side Fret Markers for dark stages .....??
Dr.Dave replied to Mark_ii's topic in General Discussion
I asked for side LEDs installing in my Shuker - and they work very well. One thing I hadn't considered was how much they help at outdoor gigs when the sun's in your eyes too , so that was a bonus. I'm thinking of having them installed in my Blueflower P too - but that'll be along with front ones and illuminated pickguard full mashings job - more of a stage prop pose than anything else. -
My gig with Mark Knopfler... now with video!
ooo which pub ?
several months late with the answer but it was the Tap and Spile in Pontefract , opp. the bus station. He was playing with his mate , Brendan Croker , at an event in Ponte park. and I was doing the same event. Might have been one of the organiser types took us all for a beer. I can't remember for sure but I don't think Mark had a beer - I thik he had a fruit juice of some kind. Wise man. He's third on a list of 'Famous blokes I sort of had a pint with'. The other 2 being Steve Harris who bought me a Guiness in the White Horse in Wakey and Joe Elliot who nicked all my cans out of my dressing room at the Black-a-moor head in Ponte and fcuked off ! -
Good drummers are rare indeed. and guitarists and singers and even bass players. I think the dificulties associated with learning to become a drummer are cancelled out by the number of folk who think the drums will be easy to learn and you don't need know anything about music. I expect the guys and gals who quickly realise how wrong they were about that are the ones who go on to be good at it !!
-
I would say that it's a very rare gig where I would be sober enough to drive , though I don't get hammered. A gig's a night out with my mates to me as much as anything so I like a few pints.
-
Audition them as much as they audition you.

' find a guitar where the neck feels right and that's your guitar - anything else can be sorted out with a screwdriver , a soldering iron and a spray gun'. - Pat travers. and one of my own - Punter - 'Ha - do you get paid to look like that?' Moi - 'Yep - out of your pocket , you average ****'
I read somewhere (maybe here) that macca used to play much simpler basslines when perfoming live. someone also mentioned recently phil lynott and the theory that he must have written the bass part and the vocals side-by-side to allow for any shortcomings.
Might have been me that said that about Phil - if it was , it will have been to note it rather than agree with it. As a composer - the fountainhead so far as I'm concerned - I wouldn't compromise the melody of a song because I couldn't play it's bass line at the same time. Recreating a piece in a live concert is nothing. It's been and gone in a heartbeat. A recording is for ever. Macca's approach is far more acceptable. No compromise at the composing and recording stages - only at the point of delivering live.
When I'm singing my fingers just do their thing, probably down to muscle memory.
Dichotomy , I think it's termed. You and I have been doing it forever and a day so it comes easy to us. For those who think it impossible................ If I rang your mobile while you were having your dinner would you stick your fork in your eye?? Of course not - because you're used to eating your dinner and you're used to answering your mobile - ie. you've practised those things a lot.
