I think it's great - you could have a ball pimping that. Bit too much coin , though , for a fun bass.

Is it just me that thinks a) it's all a marketing ploy to persuade us to buy an amp called 'bastard' for the gag b ) there'll be a 'big bastard' along at some point
Yep, see if you can see 'em
That's a bunny rabbit at the top , isn't it?? Awwwwwwwwwwww. I'd be emailing the Sport and telling them it's Jesus - got to be a few quid in that !!
I don't know TBH I'm really enjoying just playing it at the moment, I'm sure I'll get an aesthetic idea for it at some point that'll probably involve little squares.
Most def. you should - I like your trademark. Like I say about my Blueflower... I'd rather the answer to the question 'What was last night's bass player like?' be 'some fat bastard with a flowery bass and red dice knobs' than 'can't remember'. I don't think you or I were invented to blend in , Wayne !!
Do you leave a gap for the amp to have a bit of space for cooling? I'm using the same setup (700RB-II and Korg DTR) in a 4u rack case, it's way bigger than it needs to be though and I'm not convinced the head actually needs an entire rack space when the vent extends beyond the Korg and it never seems to heat up (although it's not had any extended use yet).
As you say , the vent extends beyond the back of the Korg and I've never had issue with it. It goes on for about 4 hrs a night at gigs I should think , though the GK's (400RB) on mute when I'm not actually playing. Say a couple pf gigs a week on average - amps 3 years old - being Mr 12 oclock when it comes to knobs the gain and master are always straight up the middle.... Just never been an issue for me and I expect the 700s bigger power section would be pissing about at the volume levels I play at. I think it's wise to have considered air space as you have but for practical purposes I went for the 3u shallow. BTW - rack bags - nice soft padded top makes a good home for a resting bass guitar - safer than a stand IMHO if you have the sort of 'carpet carrier' roadie that we do that walks into anything in his....well - 'it's - search for raw meat and females. (Sorry Mark if you're watching!!)
I have a Korg rackmount tuner which will be available for sale in a week or two... it's the reliable one without the bells and whistles!
Me too but only regarding your second comment - I won't be shifting mine. It's easy to use and see , reliable , wouldn't gig without it. 3u shallow rackbag , Korg tuner , GK head - leave me alone , I'm a happy man with the right tools for my job.

Bought it new last year - used it about twice in the house for some multitracking I was doing but now it sits in its box under the bed. £80 delivered - it's off to ebay if nobody wants it and short of a set of Basslines J pups there's nothing I want in trade. specs etc here http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=895

Like many people I started off with a cheap thing to practise on and when the finish started to wear thin I just got some cheap stuff to cover it with........ After I while though when I began to take life more seriously I had a proper refurb done Can you believe it's the same one? Anyway - nothing lasts forever so I got this last year First 'off white ' one I've ever had but I never liked it from day one. So - I just took delivery of a new chocolate leather 3 seater recliner - cost a fortune but it's ace. BTW - sorry about the silly basses getting in the way of the pics.
-Play it like a fretted bass. i.e - don't go sliding up and down to the notes because it's possible to do so. James
Amen to that ! Have a good old slide about for an hour or so - in private! - and get it out of your system. Then you can think about a slide when it tastefully adds something to the song you're playing which is a harder and more useful thing than wizzing about out of novelty value.

Cables: best ways to store and extend life
Dr.Dave replied to lanark's topic in Accessories and Misc
My folks used to run a sub-post office and I blagged a few cloth cash bags - each large enough to hold about 3 leads. Mains in one , mics in another , signal in the third and they go into my gig box which is a sales rep's sample case I found in a skip outside Wilkinsons. -
Still at the scanning lark and came across this which shows the vandalism to the Jazz better - truly a shame. It was roughly scratched not just through the finish but into the wood. While on the subject of old Fenders (may have told this tale before - apologies if so - memory and age etc) here's another scanned pic and associated jackanory. The Musicmaster belonged the drummer , or at least most of a Musicmaster did. He'd just bought it for nuts , that afternoon, as a Xmas pressy for his son. On the way to this gig , in the back of an estate car , the guitar player and I wired in a strat pup with insulating tape (it had no pup) - fashioned a nut (missing) out of an acoustic guitar blank with a nail file - strung it with cut down long scales and fixed a camera strap on it with a couple of wood screws as it had no strap buttons. The idea was that if the drummers slightly starry eyed young son saw me play it at a gig he'd consider it a top instrument and certainly good enough to learn on. He was too young to come to a gig , hence the photo as proof. It worked - he started learning bass as a result of our bodge job and is now a pro musician working in the Canaries and on cruise ships.
Or maybe, you could out your actual location in your profile as apose to "behind your sofa" ?
I'm with Mr Tenfloors - first thing I do when browsing the classifieds is glance across to the members profile for a location. If anyone posts an ad. to sell something and don't include relevant details useful to prostective buyers - and as a result their goodies don't sell - tough titty , no skin off my nose. I think this post may well be a good heads up to such sellers but I don't see any real reason to make it a rule of posting or something - would think the mods have enough to do editing out folk writing **** is a ******* ****. He is too !!!
Great bass Dave! You look like you were in a bit a a trance though; was that just the joy of being at one with your bass or were other factors involved?
About the ony banned substance I ever bothered with in those days was pies , as you can see! See the hand on the left of the picture?? It's owner was the cause of my distraction. We were using a commercial kitchen - closed - as a dressing room and said guitarist farted just before we were due on - except he didn't fart!!! There was bugger all in the kitchen to clean himself up with so he got a handful of flour and rubbed it down the inside of his black spandex strides to try and soak up the mess. All this while the DJ was announcing us. Bastard stank terrible under the lights - but , hey , that's rock and roll , man.
Nice! You don't see many 'burst Teles. Jamaica aside, any regrets about selling the J?
None. I always wanted a sunburst block marker Jazz , but I knew it wasn't that one. Long story but I didn't even want to buy it. It belonged to a well travelled and seasoned pro (world tours with 50/60's US rockers , Las Vegas house band , Tom Jones , Humperdinck etc , 70's sessions on top 10 singles etc) who'd fallen on hard times. He was in debt with bills to pay and couldn't afford to wait while a buyer came up with the right money - I could. The guy was overjoyed at the time with his £600 but I'm pleased it was done through a third party because I'm not sure I could have looked him in the eye. It was just too vandalised to keep and I prefer Precisions anyway. I have no excuse whatsoever for the sofa ! BTW - while I was going through the prints , mostly holidays etc , I came across another long forgotten one of me gigging with the Precision about 30 years ago. The pic can only be described as 'harrowing ' and could well frighten young children !! I can't imagine you'd like me to post it would you?????????

Been going through years of old pre-digital prints and scanning them to clear some space in the cupboards. I came across this one which I didn't know I had. Must be 10 years or so back. I had these 3 Fenders at the same time for only a few months - the pics not fab but for what it's worth........ 72 Telebass - modded with badass and jazz pup - this morphed into several different basses before finally being split and sold for parts. 68 (as I remember) Jazz. All original. Didn't even know I had a pic of this at all. I've mentioned it a few times round here. It was vandalised , not 'mojoed' when I bought it. I got the stickers off and cleaned it up but the graffiti and burns remained. It looks OK in the pic. but beyond the upside down scratched love heart opposite the top fret you can make out more scratching - it said 'your mabel's m*nge box'. Pillock. Anyway I bought it cheap - kept it for 6 months - sold it on dear. With the profit I bought a Status , a fortnights all inclusive for 2 in Jamaica , a scuba diving course and still had change for a chicken jalfrezi !!! 73 Precision. Pride , joy , lifelong friend. Had it 32 years now. Not for sale at any price , ever.

If you're asking £2,500 for a bass ...
Dr.Dave replied to Clarky's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
...and crappy photos taken with a flash in the corner of the spare room look terrible! Why do people do it? Love black, tort and RW, mind... lovely.
I suppose not everyone has an eye for photography or maybe not a great camera. I take your point but all that's required of an ad for a bass at this price is an idea. If anyone spends 2.5 large on a bass on the strength of a pic , however good , they're nuts. Personally all I need is an idea of what I'll be going in person to check out before I part with a penny. -
Help: Bad blister on the end of my finger and gig tonight
Dr.Dave replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
Remember , too , that every time you drop a bollock make sure you adopt a pained expression and make a big show of looking at your fingers during the intervals between songs. Announce, at least 6 times over the mic, how big a sacrifice you're making to not let down your audience despite your agony - and the name of your drink of preference. I've been getting away with that sh*t for 30 years !!! -
If money were no object, what bass would you have?
Dr.Dave replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
I'm very content with my armoury so I'm afraid were I to win the lotto and buy anymore it would not really be for the right reasons , more like 'because I can'. But , should that ever happen I've always fancied a Ric for the coolness and a Fender dated the same year I was born. -
Well , I am a real Yorkshireman so I tend to use products like this because they're cheaper !!!
