Any one used/heard the new Orange Bass Terror yet
Dr.Dave replied to Funkmaster's topic in Amps and Cabs
Ah - you're serious then , Dave. You sure did have an issue or 2 with the MB last Friday. Odd because I've heard you use it many times problem free. After our chat I've been searching 'Orange Terror' all over t'internet and I'd be inerested to hear of any frst hand use too. -
Good God, is the gig on the Moon?
Lagoa - Portugal.

For next Sunday's gig we have to set off at 2.30 in the morning !!!!

God - how many gigs did I do with one of these? Hundreds I should think. Fretmeister has it now as I went headless. Photo of me on stage with one in front of me as I type. Wonderful to play - plenty of tonal variation......... Some may say 'entry level' Status and those of us who've owned one will have a little knowing smile to ourselves if they do. Somebody buy this - it will not disappoint you.

Look - Dude wants a double neck and isn't ashamed to say a lot of it's for the image - good for you son. Let's help him out and when he's done - I want a go! So - not sure how deft you are at the old woodwork lark but I , for one , would think tring to cut down and glue 2 bodies together sounds like a world of grief. I have seen it done , but by pro's. Wondering if someone like Prosebass could knock you the body up - sure there's others. I would think transporting it might be a headache - as you're a player you've got to think about that. Lighter weight M/Cs - smaller bridges - keeping the electrics down to a minimum - all will help with the weight - as will as wide a strap as you can get your hands on. I think you accept it'll be heavy and crack on or give up the idea. The idea of a single a/b toggle is sound , you seem to like a fairly simple sound so I'd go for one pup for each neck wired through a P style tone and vol. In fact I have the stock single coil pup from my 54P reish going begging - you pull this body off one way or another and it's yours , gratis.
its not that much smaller really, very suttle. It plays like a dream. Im so lucky Eude wanted something differant, I was spec'ing up a shuker very similer to this anyways, I just wanted a blue maple top, maple fretboard and a BAii but now ive played this, I wouldnt change a thing about it. The scale makes it quite a bit easyer to get around the frets too. Edit: Id edit the spelling mistakes but im iliterate and a lil drunk
Nice trio - very versatile. You'll regret letting the red 'ray' float away though - you mark my words!!!

Who needs a band? I do. I don't feel 'complete' unless I've got a crowd of people telling me I'm wonderful. Insecurity I suppose.

Not really bothered for anyone else's basses - I did miss out on a chance to by Noddy Holder's Hi-Watt head which would have been nice. Be nice to to own a Fender from Oct 61 - same month I was born.

Thankyou for taking the trouble - I'd like to add my voice to those who regard your excellent affort as sticky worthy. I shimmed my Precision exactly like this 20 years ago and never a hitch/problem - except I used a specialist material for the shim available from Embassyregalfagpacket dot com!

PMT - Pre-Minstrel Tension .. What do you do?
Dr.Dave replied to OldGit's topic in General Discussion
Snort coke off a mucky bird's arse. If there's no mucky bird available - I go to the nearest other pub , sip shandy , smoke a cig and generally stretch my arms and legs a bit. Anywhere quiet really. Our drummer texts his family sitting in his car and our guitar player wanders about being grumpy. It doesn't happen too often these days - just at gigs that are out of our comfort zone in some way or other. We never talk about the gig after about an hour before it starts. Never. Kiss of death - you end up altering something in the set and then making a pig's ear of it. -
Silly Love Songs - Wings The lyric makes me cringe but the bass line's been my fave warm up for years http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK9QVN0bpa4

Yo - Adam , long time , no waffle etc. There's a Phil Jones suitcase in the classifieds. Might be worth a look. I've never tried one live but based the try outs I've had I'd happily use one. Ext cab left at home for the intimate's - maybe. I think you found , like me , that the GK micro's were a little underpowered but I know you were a fan of the sound. The MB2 is around now , I think. More bang for your buck in a tiny box but I haven't even seen one yet.

It looks like it wants bullying - hit it like a ginger stepchild I remember you being hardly a short fella and I can picture you charging about with this. Middle leg joints of a black and yellow insect to me mate - old sunburst P , leave me alone! Bet you now - once you put a few marks on it yourself it's a keeper. Every tool kit needs a big 'f**k off' hammer !

I've fitted Fender/Schallers to a bass and had to make the 2 holes. I used a 'fag packet' template to mark the drilling points and it worked very well. I also found a rebate in the hole through the headstock that the new MCs wouldn't fit through which I had to rout out with a heath robinsonish homemade router but again it worked well. Hope that info's useful - and by way of an opinion - I have Schaller M4s tuners on another bass and which the Fender/Schallers are based on and I find them superior to the F/S's.

http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/category/Pickguar...asses/Tele_Bass ?? Any good? Mine's a 54 reish Blueflower P.- clear, 7 hole pickguard. I've actually added 2 screws to mine (middle of the bottom edge waist and near neck pocket lower side) as it was flappy in both places. The 7 facotry holes look the same as the 'sting' pics someone added here. Then again I made a few changes so originality's not an issue for me.
Yep a thumb rest would do it. I'd prob regret it if I ever wanted to sell it on though. It's funny how some of us can be so pernickity about the details . . . . . like . . . it won't look authentic . . . . . . and the 'Stinglay' does??!!
If that's the only concern why not buy a thumbrest and (if it would include the right thumbrest location) a pickguard - then stick one to t'other with epoxy? That way you can sell the bass as all original in the future. I have to say I treat mine shockingly in terms of wedging my sweaty thumb under the pup - touching the cloth wrapping - and no probs to date.
Mine did the same too. Decided to replace the bridge. Still waiting for my local shop to tell me it's arrived...
Replacing it with the same bridge Grant?? Maybe you mean it still has some warranty and the replacement's coming gratis. Whatever - I think I'd take the opportunity to upgrade the bridge. I'm a fan of the badass and there's a sticky about it in the repairs forum. There's loads of others though. I don't think many will disagree that other than replacing pups a bridge replacement will make the biggest difference to your sound. Note , though , the word 'difference'. I think the difference is far better but that's opinion. Re loctite on saddle screws.... it can get really tight - nail varnish doesn't and the 'joint' will crack under allen key pressure leaving you able to adjust the saddles easily.

I have a 73 P I bought in 78 and the trouble is....I don't know if it's any good or not. I bought it because it was a professionals tool and the choice at the time was small. I love it - but I don't really know if it's a good example , just that it feels good to me. It's the ref. that I base other instruments on but it might be a poor ref. and I wouldn't know that. Hope that makes sense. I have played other vintage instruments - even owned others - and there is something to me about the 'mojo' of a bass. If it's your 'own' mojo from years of playing it - that's priceless , not so sure about paying a fortune to 'buy in' mojo. If you think about it - I've never bought a vintage instrument - I bought a fairly new used one and kept it for ages. At the time the established Fender heads would say I bought a rubbish one because it wasn't pre-CBS. Now 73 P's are collectors items. I suppose the real question is 'what would I replace it with if the house burned down'. I'm pretty sure the answer would be a japanese re-ish.

As you should be. Do you find it balances well when seated? They look like they won't but the ones I've tried never moved an inch unless I wanted them to.
-
I know music ground are notorious for being over expensive with vintage stuff. The upstairs of the Leeds shop is like a museum - no prices. The attitude seems to be 'I want 2 grand for that piece of tat which nobody will ever pay which is fine because it still hanging there brings folks to the shop downstairs too - BUT - if someone's daft enough.......' Glad you got yours for less , and if you think the price was fair - even better. It looks great by the way.
Righty Tighty (What you want to do) - Lefty Loosey
I'm liking that - reminder rhymes etc. We should have a bunch of them in the repais forum. I'll offer my '3 F's intonation saying useful when comparing 12th fret note to harmonic. If the Fretted note's Flat move the saddle Forward.
