5 - which is one too many by my self made rules - all fretted 4's 73 Precision - semi retired 'precious' 54P Reish - so I could finally retire the above - my current fave Status Series 3000 - useful workhorse I wouldn't be without Shuker Bolt-On Custom - posh lightweight Stingray that's pretty much out of work at the mo because of 2 and 3 Epiphone Explorer - hated piece of crap that looks right in the ZZ trib I'd like to have just 4 - all doing jobs for me (inc the retired P) The EpiEx could go tomorrow for all I care but stays as long as the ZZ thing carries on. I'd really like a 70's sunburst fretless P , but that would mean dumping one of the others. Incredibly the only one I could consider would be the Shuker - which shocks me that I even think it.

The single coil pup in the Blue Flower 54P tends to buzz a lot - even worse when D Iing. It's the only thing I dislike about the bass - it's simple old fashioned sound is a joy though.
and the night before that was a brilliant gig in the Limelight, Crewe with Panic Room. All in all, a pretty good week's gigging Cheers Alun
Be interested to hear anything about the Limelight, Crewe. We're doing the ZZ trib there soon with Dr B supporting

I read when young and impressionable that I should sit and adjust the strap so it was just loose while doing so , then it would be near enough in the same place when I stood up. I found that slightly high to be comfortable and lengthened the strap a couple of inches. I find it varies from bass to bass but not by very much. I have a strap for each bass and never adjust them or swap them about. The exception is the Epi Ex - but that's doing a job of work where the look is as important as the playing (which is 3 notes and one of them's A !!) so it's slung much lower .

I said the other week how the Blueflower 54P reish has been keeping my other basses at home. It was meant to re my 73P which I've got over precious about but it's competing , and usually winning , with the Status as tool of choice. I can't believe I'm saying this but the Shuker has been idle for months and I'm even wondering if it's days are numbered. Having said that it's a far more versatile and precise instrument and it'll probably back when the set changes next.

Absolute banger at a Harley Davidson function near Leeds. Bit of buzz from the 54 reish's single coil pup but what the hell - it sounded massive - and a bigger than normal stage to bounce around on with it. Great people - charity calendars featuring their naked wives and girlfriends sprawled over the bikes to go home with - and offers of a pile more work from various organisers etc. Plus all the free Newcy 'dog' I could sup - which was substantial once we'd finished!

I'm a 'don't mind'. Def. up for it. Not sure when we're next due to play Harrogate Blues bar - but there's an outside chance I could tie this in for after the bash then anyone who wanted my job for a song or 2 could come have a jam with my band.

I always fancied getting hold of a musicmaster bass and guitar and fettling them together as a doubleneck. Never did - and probably won't now. Strange , because I've had one of each.

To stop pretending I don't need to get a smaller rig before my knees give up the ghost. Trouble is there's still a mountain of PA to shift. Guitar player's just bought a Boogie Lonestar combo which weighs as much as a house - he refuses to push it on it's wheels so I refuse to carry it !!

As part of a Lotto promotion - we were asked by Wakefield Music Collective (who got some Lotto cash) to forego our slot at the Wakey Fest and represent them at a gig in Millenium Square in Leeds. Live interview on the Radio , thousands of williams etc etc. One 45 min live set. We were told there would be a headline act but it was hush hush at the time. Fair one - so we turned up.............. ......... ...... Darius !!!!!!!!!!!!! 3 thousand 9 year olds crying their eyes out at 3 blokes that looked like their wicked uncles until the great man came on and mimed 4 songs. To be fair , he's a smashing bloke. Fed up of the press types he hid in our dressing room having a laugh. He's also 17ft tall. I wanted a souvy so while he was on stage I nicked his pumps !!!

How many of you are converted (successful) guitarists?
Dr.Dave replied to Jamesemt's topic in General Discussion
I've always played guitar , but consider it the 'hobby' if you catch my drift. I'm known as a bass player and that's what's always earned the beer tickets. I played guitar in a band for a while and have done some recording as a guitarist. These days I'm happy to take my lovely dphne blue Strat along to the odd gig with a mates band and happily stand at the back strumming away. I have an old Ovation Legend acoustic too. I just bought a Fender Blues Junior which has sparked up the interest a bit. I find guitar more fun to play at home , bass is more fun to play with people. I'm not great at guitar - or maybe I'm just lucky enough to have played with several very good guitarists that I can't hold a candle to. If my bands folded tomorrow - I'd be keen to start another as a singer guitarist rather than as a bass player - just to do something different . No way am I a failed guitarist. I played guitar before I tried bass (as I had piano and violin) - bass was the one that captured me and sent my enthusiasm to learn through the roof. -
The front panel looks much closer to that of the RB amps than it does the current MB series. Does it sound like the RB's rather then the MB's?? I like both - though use an RB400 at the mo , purely because I just couldn't ge the volume I wanted out of my MB150 combo and a cab. I prefer the sound of the RB to be honest , and it's less fiddly to get the sounds I want - I'm well up for the MB2 if it's going to tick all the boxes - ie RB sounds from a MB size
I'd also add that in Yorkshire, the fish and chips are meant for your tea, which means that all the chip shops open at 5pm and are closed by 8pm, which is about three hours before anyone in their right mind wants some fish and chips...
Ah - but that's what kebab shops are for , you can't possibly eat those til it's dark and , crucial , when you've had at least 14 pints of 'Bassenthwaites awld wifebeater'. I so enjoy watching them trimming all the rotten, brown bits off a lettuce and placing them into my pitta bread. I rang our kebab shop the other night and said 'do you deliver?' Bloke said 'No - just lamb and chicken'. So I nipped round the chip shop and asked for fish and chips Bloke said 'wrapped?' So I said 'Yo , motherf**ker , gimmeee fish, gimmee, fish, fish, fish and chi chi chi chi chips innit bro'

Make it rattle , and systematically press your finger on anything that may have worked loose to see if it stops. I'd start with the bridge saddle screws and don't forget the strap buttons. I'm guessing this is the cause. If it's saddle screws - when you come to readjust them bung some nail varnish on the threads - in fact , do that anyway.

There's a nice shiny plastic pocket 'twixt plate and body on posh ones like mine - and a piece of Embassy Regal packet in the neck pocket adjusting the neck angle. That's pre-CBS fag packet which I'll sell to any of you for 8 grand.

I've lived here since I was born in 1842 , so to explain the major differences , and the only ones worth mentioning........ Here in West Yorks we fry fish and chips properly in beef dripping - a fishcake is scraps of fish between 2 large slices of spud fried in batter. Fish is defined as cod or haddock. In South Yorks - if you ask for a fishcake you get a poncy mashed potato thing the size of a 10p piece. You have to ask for a patty which sounds stupid , you musn't say please or thankyou , and you have to have a fight with somebody while you wait. In North Yorks - you may be asked if you want plaice , the chips are ordered by the 'packet' rather than the 'bag' and cost £83 per portion , it's traditional to set your dog on a fox before eating your meal in any 4x4 vehicle that's 'not foreign'. Over to the east is Humberside , where nobody admits to living , insisting instead that it's East Yorks. Or East Riding if you're over the age of 70 - which nobody is - mostly because they eat fish and chips 17 times per day - and the dozy sods leave the skin on. Euugh. There are some really pretty towns around here where fresh fish used to be landed until the Spanish stole them all. Neither of these towns are Hull or Grimsby. Don't ever go to either. Going through passport control at Todmorden you enter Lancashire , though I can't recall why you'd want to. Here you must tell the folk in the fish shop that you actually find Peter Kaye funny. Mimic his accent if you must , it's easy - simply form everything into a question. ie. 'it's cold outside, is it not?' The fish is caught off the west coast - a tad too close to Sellafield for me - possibly the reason your portion has more than one tail and still burns your lips when it's cold. Hope this clears up any confusion. Next Week...............Lahndahn town - and how the fish and chips were so much nicer in the old days when the 'twins' were around 'the manor' and the Queen Mahm fried them all personally - 'gawd bless 'er'
ha i always thought it was personal address......learn sumit new every day
You were confusing it with Personal Assistant - which is something you bend over a desk for your own private entertainment I'm surprised that anyone hires in for pub size gigs these days. There's a wealth of decent quality , inexpensive powered mixer amps and 15 plus horn cabs which are more than adequate for the price of just a few hire ins. Personally I'd go new on the mixer and used on the cabs. We tend to use a pair of Turbosound 12 + horns and a Yamaha mixer/amp for smaller gigs , we add a db active woofer for larger jobs - and if we're pulling the stops out also add the turbosound matching bass bins powered by a Peavey amp.

You'd up the 'classy' rating by a thousand percent by covering them with a clear pickguard.

I'm in - any WE really , but may have a gig the same evening otherwise I'm up for a jar too.

My ZZ trib's called ZZ Eliminator - played once at Rudi's before , but only as our alter-ego's Dr Blue. I do remember the manic sound man - doesn't he own the joint? He got a sad on when I wouldn't use his mic cos it smelled of camel breath. I know the Fandango Bros - or at least I saw them , and I used to jam with Chantelle at a jam night when she was a kid. She's about 20 now I think , still the same overbearing parents cramping her style but she's very talented. She did a solo spot supporting us in Skipton a few months back. Colne's a great weekend - though on the slide I hear. Done it tons of times , last twice at the Pendle Leisure Centre venue.
The headstock faces (but not the sides or back) of this period were nitro'd, the neck poly'd (and I've got a similarly two-toned Tele). His camera may be exaggerating the 'David Dickinson-esque' hue of the headstock face.
I can pomise you my 73 is real - and the headstock colour makes David Dickenson look the colour of a peeled potato!! It's so dark that in certain lights it looks painted. I can't take issue with the back of the body either. I'm happy about this one and the guy lists his mobile - I'd ring it and go look.

That's not gay - it just likes pushing the hoover about a bit !!! Now THIS is a real lifter of gentlemans shirts!!!!!!
